The people of America throw away 250 million tons of trash each year. That is about 4 pounds per person each day. Out of what we throw away, we hardly recycle any of that. We throw away things that are toxic to the environment and that can affect our future. We don’t think about how we should dispose of waste we just throw it away without thinking about anything. Landfills are not healthy for an environment. Along with that most of them are becoming overfilled and that means we have to create more landfills. That just adds on to the problem for the world. These landfills are very toxic to the environment and the people. Incinerators are not the solution either. The ashes of those eventually just end up in landfills which brings us back to not even solving anything. Landfills can leak which can get into our water system and …show more content…
Incineration can put harmful chemicals into the air instead of water. So now we have the problem of polluting water and the air. That is just people signing a death wish. People think that incinerators will get rid of the waste but it doesn’t. It just adds toxic chemicals to landfills. We need to make a change in how we dispose of things and it needs to happen fast.
There are different methods to disposing waste that we currently have options for. Each having there own advantages and disadvantages. Ocean dumping can be useful but eventually will just pollute the ocean so much and kill off most of the marine water life. Sanitary, open, and incineration don't provide many advantages only disadvantages. Recycling can help but the people don’t recycle as much as we should be for it to really make an impact on the world.
We need to come up with a new way to dump waste or rid of waste before we pollute the planet so much that it is too toxic to live on anymore. Some areas are already so bad that people have been forced to move to a new
She suggests that Americans should reduce their overconsumption of such commodities since they are overburdening the non-biodegradable waste load in the garbage collection facilities. It is surprising to note that every Americans disposes more than four pounds of trash on a daily basis (Royte, 2005).
Landfills have been around for a long time. They have been used to get rid of our garbage so we don’t have to figure out how. Some think landfills are still a good idea. However there are many people that think landfills are harmful to us. There are other things that we in the United States can do to help with removal of our garbage or waste besides send it to the landfills. So closing down landfills would be a good idea or we could close down as many as we can. To be able to get rid of the landfills Americans need to learn more about composting, recycling and incineration as other forms of waste removal.
That is an appalling amount of landfills that are in the United States. They retire landfills because a leakage breaks out into the ground or into a body of water. The majority of landfills are close by or right next to some type of body of water. When the landfill begins to leak the disgusting leakage goes into the water and starts to kill the living organisms in the water as well as affecting us humans. Many people do not know but they just might be swimming, tubing, or etc… in the extremely contaminated water. There are many toxins that could be in the water or the in the ground, a few of them are “mercury, arsenic, cadmium, PVC, solvents, acid, lead, and… leachate which is a liquid formed when waste breaks down in the landfill and water filters through that waste. It is highly toxic” (EnviromentVictoria). The most lethal toxins in the group that I just listed are mercury, lead, and leachate. A small dose of that could possibly kill you imagine that being leaked into the ground and our waterways and coming to areas that us humans use day in and day out. Another problem is greenhouse gases being released into the
Recycling means converting waste into usable things. However, does it really help to make a change? The things you do to clear up all your wastes, separate paper from plastic and glass and metal. Some probably would assume that recycling is helping their community and protecting the environment. But is it? Are you in fact wasting your time? There are still many people out there who does not even know what recycling is about. They don’t care throwing their waster randomly. Some people belief that keeping some things for a longer time without giving them away for recycling will be valuable in future. In some places people have no idea about recycling, they just throw away the waste or even burn them. This is just another cause of the environmental
Do you know that there are about three trillion pounds of garbage on Earth? Sadly, these pieces of garbage kill animals when they eat the garbage because the garbage has a lot of harmful pathogens which sometimes give them serious diseases. Even the air pollution in the landfill can also harm the animals which can be a real danger to them because they can die or suffer in pain. If people recycle, then it wouldn't create this problem which is going on the world. People should recycle because it saves energy, reduces landfills, and saves money.
This waste should not be pressured upon a geographical area if they do not create it. A clean and healthy environment is the only thing many lesser-developed countries have to cherish.
Have you ever wonder what can you do about the bottles and cans you find around you? People that doesn?t care about the world being clean is littering the place. It makes things very difficult to put up for. Recycling cans and bottles can help save the earth form waste and trash buildup and can make new things. I think that recycling should be mandatory and there should be recycling cans in various locations at school and everywhere else.
Our world is getting to the point to where we will be surrounded by trash. There are hazards happening because of the excess trash, which could have been recycled. Although the government is not doing their best to make these hazards stop, surprisingly it is the non-governed organizations that are trying to make the difference. Proven studies and facts have been made about these issues, so people should take this into consideration and start recycling more. Recycling is a beneficial process that is not required globally like it should be because citizens are uneducated on the process and what it can do. People who are not recycling do not know the hazards they are causing everywhere.
People all over the world have been throwing trash away and that makes landfills, why don't people recycle? People should because landfills can take over 1,000 years to break down and decompose that is a very long time. Why people should recycle it save us from getting sick and people from getting cancer. It will be a whole lot cleaner if we recycle it wouldn't be as dirty like it is right now these days. So landfill can be smaller so they don't take to long to decompose or break down.
Places where all sorts waste is dumped are conducive for debris formation and spread of diseases and other dangers caused by harmful chemicals and waste. This not only causes widespread pollution but it’s also harmful for committed people who recycle such products.
Have you ever imagined that Earth is no longer available due to pollution? As shown in Wall-E, people recognize that wastes can lead Earth to be unavailable for all lives because of toxic gas from wastes. In each day, tons of wastes are create, and they are disposed with vary disposal methods. Unfortunately, current disposal methods have limitations; landfill and incineration create harmful chemicals that pollute Earth. Even if people live only with necessity of life, wastes are still created and they needed to be disposed. Even though current waste disposal methods solve problems caused by wastes, they create another problem while disposing wastes. When disposing waste with current methods, wastes seem to be disappear, but they are remain in different form still polluting Earth in many ways like air, ground and water pollutions. To resolve addressed problem, the best way is to make no wastes, but it is impossible unless people can live without necessity of life. The other method is to improve waste disposal methods. There are some companies that try to prevent pollutions caused while disposing wastes. These companies try to develop safer waste disposal methods. Waste Management (WM) is the most famous companies among these eco-friendly companies, and WM shows some possible solutions for improving waste disposal methods. In addition, this article will analyze, critique and suggest improvements of Waste Management's three ways to dispose several types of waste: improving current recycling, renewable energy from Landfill gas (LFG), and waste conversion.
Traditional methods of waste disposal have proven to be ineffective and have caused harmful effects on the environment. The most popular and inexpensive way to get rid of garbage is burial, but burying your problems does not necessarily mean getting rid of them. Landfill sites pose as severe ecological threats as these mass garbage dump yards overflow with trash and frequently contaminate our air, soil and water with hazardous wastes. About 400 million tons of hazardous wastes are generated each year1. A large-scale release of these materials can cause thousands of deaths and may poison the environment for many years. For example many industrial companies around the world cannot afford to enforce the strict pollution regulations set by many developed countries. This usually forces these types of companies to move to developing countries where pollution regulations are very lenient. These developing countries knowingly accept environmentally hazardous companies usually because they are in desperate need of employment. The harmful effects of these companies were clearly illustrated in the 1960s and 1970s when residents living near Minamata Bay, Japan, developed nervous disorders, tremors, and paralysis in a mysterious epidemic. The root was later found to be a local industry that had released mercury, a highly toxic element, into Minamata Bay. The disaster had claimed the lives of 400 people1. Since 1970 you can bet that a lot more than 400 people have died as a result of waste disposal. If the type of waste disposal were cheaper and effective we wouldn’t have to deal with waste problems, which still plague mankind today.
...or lakes (Weber 2). When people just dump waste products instead of recycling, it is a misuse of the soil and can contribute to serious health conditions in animals, plants and humans.
The United States produces “about 8.25 billion tons of solid wastes each year” (Russell 1). People do not realize the impact they have on our planet and environment. When people throw anything in the trashcan, they are contributing to the destruction of our planet. The number landfills in the United States are decreasing, but the amount and volume of waste being thrown into the new landfills is increasing (Russell 4). Because of this escalating amount of garbage, Methane which contributes to global warming is an outcome of these landfills (Russell 7). As a result, our planet is suffering because of this epidemic. The garbage being put in the landfills could be recycled, but not enough businesses, ...
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (2008), an American produces 250 million tons of garbage per year (para.2). There are different circumstances that are based on the society, environmental conditions, occupation and size of each of the different families. As Richmond (2010) stated, if no administration organizations has the responsibility or resources to concentrate their efforts on the waste disposal, then the responsibility to do that is on the nongovernmental organizations and ordinary people (para.... ... middle of paper ... ...
