On April 9th, 1898, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the legend of Earl “Curly” Lambeau began. At Green Bay East High School, Lambeau was a star halfback and team captain for the red devils. He then took his talents to the notable University of Notre Dame. In 1919, at age 21, Curly Lambeau formed the Green Bay Packers. He then went on to be one of the era’s most innovative coaches, popularizing the use of the forward pass and winning six National Football League championships. A severe case of tonsillitis crushed Curley’s dreams of playing in between the lines, but fueled him to be the greatest coach to ever step on a football field.
When Lambeau played at Notre Dame, he was lucky enough to be coached by the legendary Knute Rockne. Rockne is now in the College Football Hall Of Fame and is the reason Notre Dame is well known in the NCAA for their football program. Coach Lambeau learned everything he knew from Rockne and owes him a big thanks. The fighting Irish popularized the forward pass at the college level and in Curley’s two years as halfback, he was able to learn enough to take it to the American Professional Football Association.

Lambeau looked as if he was on the team, at a strong 5’10”, 187 pounds, but was able to lead with techniques adapted from Rockne and was able to form intricate schemes and methods that are still used in modern day football.
He stood out as the era’s most innovative coach and his 6 national championships were proof of his success. The Packers had 3 consecutive national championships under lambeau as a coach and a part time player and then got 3 more titles in the years 1936, 39’ and 44’ when lambeau was strictly a
coach. Today when you look at football you may see summer training camps or film study sessions. These practice methods were introduced almost a century ago when Curly Lambeau managed to dominate the game of football. Currently in the NFL there are 32 teams. Every single one has a game field and a separate facility for practice. Lambeau was the first to introduce practicing at a different location and at the time it was frowned upon but now it is the regular. Coach lambeau was in the NFL/APFA for 35 years and made the most of his time by innovating the game in the way it’s played, practiced, and studied. With 226 wins, 132 losses, and 22 ties, Curly Lambeau retired from an amazing career. With no doubt, he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame for his success as a head coach. Coach Lambeau passed away from a heart attack on June 1, 1965. Three months later, the Packers changed their stadium name to Lambeau Field, and today a statue of the legendary coach and innovator stands on its grounds, watching over the team he founded and brought to prominence.
Over the course of the 1921 and 22 seasons, the Packers underwent a transformation where they replaced most of their local talent with players from big-time colleges or other pro teams. As a result, they were highly competitive on the field from the beginning and, in turn, able to establish a firm foothold within the league. “In 1927, when the NFL decided to cut its franchises almost in half and eliminate many of its smaller cities, Green Bay survived ,Then before the 1929 season, They hit the jackpot.”While the Packers were in the process of winning the 1931 championship, they also were blindsided by what could have been a Disastrous event. “In their second game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, a local fan, Willard J. Bent, injured his back when a section of bleachers at city stadium collapsed, and he fell nearly 10 feet to the ground”,he sued them for 5,000 dollars .On April 3, 1956, voters approved a referendum to fund the construction of the stadium. “It was dedicated on Sept. 29, 1957, and called new City Stadium until it was renamed Lambeau Field in 1965.””On Blackbourn’s watch, the Packers also drafted Forrest Gregg, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor and Ray Nitschke, all future Pro Football Hall of Famers.”McLean lasted one season. He submitted his resignation under fire on Dec. 17, 1958, following a 1-10-1 finish, the worst in Packers
Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. Topics gone over in this essay include his early life, his college football career, his NFL career, his army career, and his education.
The only Division1 school that had a clue about Favre was his fathers alma mater the
An athlete’s college career is something seldom used when determining the best players at each position to play professional football. To seriously distinguish between whether Manning or Brady is the best quarterback of their generation their college careers must be carefully examined. Manning, a farm-boy, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 24, 1976 ("Peyton Manning Career Biography and Statistics | SportHaven.com"). His father attended Ole Miss, where he is very well known, but Peyton, when making his decision chose to attend the hated University of Tennessee. As a Tennessee Vol, Peyton Manning, not only set records, but also posted astronomical numbers. He won his first start as quarterback, 10-9 against Washington State, and lead the team t...
Joe Paterno has found a way to win in college football. More importantly, he has found a way to win and keep his morals and the morals of the University. Paterno could have retired two years ago, after he reached victory number 324.
Coaching any sport is much harder than it seems. There are some jobs that almost anyone with the right education can do. Coaching is definitely not one of those jobs. One can get educated on drawing X's and O's on a paper for decades and still might be far from being a successful coach. Of course knowledge of the sport is very important too but to be successful in a job like coaching, one has to dedicate himself to his job; his job has to be his life. This is the major reason even those who hate Patriots still respect Bill Belichick and agree that he had unique abilities that make him so successful. His exceptional intelligence, his ability to break down and exploit game film, his singular discipline and his almost unmatched work ethic makes him probably the best coach in the NFL today and even one of the best in the history of the NFL.
Frederick “Fritz” Pollard, the first African American to ever play in the Rose Bowl and the first African American to ever coach an NFL team, changed the history of football and America while enduring different racial criticism. Pollard faced many difficulties throughout his childhood and adulthood. Pollard was not like the typical “black star” of the 1890-1910 time period. Pollard was raised in a nice home, instead of the “ghetto”, and was able to acquire higher education than that of the average African-American child of his time period. Pollard was racially criticized throughout his amateur and professional life. One incident being the time Pollard got into an argument with a child on whether or not he was a football player, “There I was,
As a kid he sometimes let his leadership be a little too strong and got a little bit bossy. As Jockbio.com states, he was frequently scolded in school for bossing his classmates around in sports and other group activities. Many times his teammates would try to get Aaron to change plays in the huddle, one of his greatest dilemmas was a play a teammate wanted to change, but Aaron made a justified decision and later explained with this simple statement, “I had a dilemma. Ferguson kept telling me to change the play in the huddle to a go route. But I couldn't do that” (thinkexist.com). This is something I credit to his leadership skills. In his NFL career, though, this leader like way of his doing things was a great asset to the Green Bay Packers team. With his contribution of skill, talent, and leadership he led the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl win in
During his time at the University of Florida, Tim Tebow was known as one of the greatest college football players ever. He won two National Championships and a Heisman trophy, which is the award given to the best player in college football. During this time period in college footbal,l players such as Reggie Bush and others were involved with investigations regarding illegal benefits being given to players by agents and boosters. Needless to say, Tim was never associated or involved in these investigations or crimes.
There were many great football players for the University of Illinois. One of the best was a kid named Harold Grange (“College” para. 1). Harold Grange played for Illinois from 1923 through 1925 (“College” para. 1). In the Illinois vs. Michigan game in 1924 Grange made 6 touchdowns (“Illinois” para. 7). Grange made 4 of those scores in the first 12, or so minutes of that game (“Illinois” para. 7). Illinois won that day with a score of 39-14 (“Illinois” para. 7). Another football player at Illinois was Dick Butkus (“College” para. 2). He played from 1963-1964 and had the Butkus award for the outstanding collegiate linebacker named after him (“College” para. 2). Chuck Carney was the receiver in 1920 (“College” para. 5). He won All Ameri...
“Of those slaughtered, eleven were high school players, ten were immature boys of 17 and under. Three presumably hardened, seasoned, and presumably fit college men were slain today.” In 1905, this was part of a telegram sent to President Roosevelt alerting him to the seriousness of the injuries involved in football. Teddy Roosevelt saved football by turning it around football and made it a safer game for America. I will express how Roosevelt’s early life affected his perspective on football, how Roosevelt saved football, and how he has impacted the game today.
Mike Tomlin is very positive and is always upbeat about his team. Tomlin is currently the

“Can the receivers get far enough down the field? Rodgers in trouble… It’s gonna get their he turned 32 yesterday does he have a vintage moment in him? In the end zone and it is caught for the win! Richard Rodgers with a walk off touchdown a game ender for the packers!!!!” This was one of many great plays Aaron Rodgers had with the Green Bay Packers. For me personally as a football fan I look back at the greats Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, Ladainian Tomlinson and so on. But no football player has had a bigger impact on me than Aaron Rodgers each game he plays he looks 100 times better than the last. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers influenced many aspects of my life by showing examples of hope, courage, and skill. Aaron Rodgers shows on the field a sense
Prescott's ability to be a professional football player didn't come easy. His love for his sport kept him happy. It was his team and organization that kept him happy through his hardships.
