Macbeth’s Profile
In the Macbeth by Shakespeare, I will be analysing the character Macbeth throughout the story.
Macbeth has so interesting character traits one of them is his Selfishness. Macbeth shows that he is incredibly selfish many times in the story and example of this is when he killed King Duncan so he could take the throne from him for his own personal gain. A part in story that shows this is “I am a thane of Cawdor: if good, why do I yielded to that suggestion Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair.” in this quote Macbeth starts to believe in the prophecy from the weird sisters; further driving him to kill King Duncan out of greed and selfishness.
A physical trait about Macbeth is his strength which makes him a great warrior. Macbeth

shows strength with his title as Thane of Cawdor received by King Duncan for is amazing efforts on the battlefield “For brave Macbeth- well he deserve that name- Disdaining fortune, with his brandish’s steel, Which smoked with bloody execution”. Said by a soldier reporting about Macbeth. Then by King Duncan gave Macbeth his title “And his former title greet Macbeth…What he hath lost, noble Macbeth hath won”. This is showing that Macbeth is a great warrior. A great conflict that Macbeth has to deal with is murder. Throughout the story he kills many people on of them being his best friend Banquo. After he sends murderers to kill him they come and tell Macbeth the news during a dinner. The guilt of the murder is made clear when he has a hallucination of Banquo at the dinner “here had we now out country’s honour roof’d, were the grac’d person of our Banquo present (Banquo’s ghost enters)” Macbeth is clearly feeling some type of guilt if he is seeing a ghost of Banquo. This is only one of the major conflicts of Macbeth’s story. Macbeth starts to have many problems mentally which start to change him. His mind changes in a way where he can’t sleep, eat, and make decisions a normal headed person would make; he's basically going crazy. Proof of this would be “O, full of scorpions is my mind” which implies he's going crazy. These are some problems that change him. In the story Macbeth goes through some big changes.
I think he goes through these changes because of Lady Macbeth because she is a very manipulative personality. At first Macbeth is a great soldier that is just following orders and as time went on and he was thinking about killing King Duncan he knew it was a bad idea and it would be wrong but Lady M manipulated him into do it which ended in a evil choice by Macbeth. Some evidence of this is when they are talking about the future murder and Lady M said “what beast was’t then that made you break this enterprise to me? When your durst do it, then you were a man, And to be more than you were, you would be so much more man”. Basically saying you wanted to kill the King before and if you don’t want to anymore you won't be a man. So this his her manipulating him into killing the king. That is how I think Lady M help change …show more content…
Macbeth. Macbeth's lesson wasn't learned.
I feel he didn’t learn a lesson throughout the story because he felt that he was right and still ruled like a tyrant up until his death at
Other characters views on Macbeth. They were positive and negative; people the end of the story. saw him as a great warrior and leader that later turned into a great tyrant in others eyes. Some characters views are Lady Macbeth’s view was positive; she loved him, Banquo suspected that Macbeth would do evil things and Macduff hated him; for good reason he killed his family. Those are some views of Macbeth.
My opinion on Macbeth is he his a good example of a “bad guy” in a story and he truly felt like one. Now about his personality I feel that he was a person that really wanted something and would do anything in his power to achieve his goal. Now if he put that attitude somewhere else instead of the want for power and greed he could have been a really great person. Other then that he was a great
character.
The good characters in Macbeth are less interesting than the evil ones. Everybody has an 'evil seed' planted in them. Only the really evil person acts on them and commits something morally wrong. Like Macbeth. When Macbeth first received the prophecies, he actually considered them. " Two truths are told,...but what is not" (line 137-152, Pg 27-29). We see him arguing with himself and feeling disgusted that he even thought that. That was interesting because we get the feeling that something out of the ordinary is coming up and our anticipation gets into the story straightaway. At the end, we didn't expect that a murderer like Macbeth would have a dramatic and poetic imagination "To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,...And then is heard no more: it is a tale" (line 21-28, Pg 233), or that he would, even in defeat, display conscience and bravery. "I will not yield to kiss the ground before young Malcolm's feet,...And damn'd be him that first cries 'Hold, enough!'" (line 32-39, Pg 249). We are surprised, and astonished because we see Macbeth in a different light and for that reason, he is interesting. While Banquo (the good character) on the other hand, was sceptical and quickly dismissed the idea of the prophecies, saying it was just their imagination. " Were such thing here as we do speak about? ...That takes the reason prisoner?" (line 86-89, Pg 27). That response was so predictable. There was no excitement at all.
The major character traits of Macbeth were his ambition (desire for power) and his utter ruthlessness in his pursuit of that power. Although Macbeth did not commit any mass murders I would compare him to one of the really brutal dictators of the 20th century Adolf Hitler. Who was responsible for the deaths of millions including six million Jewish people in the Nazi genocide. Both of the men had someone who stood behind them throughout their entire reign, and prior to it. For Hitler it was Ms. Eva Braun and for Macbeth, his Lady Both Hitler and Macbeth were willing to kill as many people as necessary to achieve the goal of Totalitarian. Macbeth was even willing to kill one of his closest friends in order to obtain this title.
Macbeth is put together with many character traits. He is a very complex character. In the beginning Macbeth was brave and loyal. He won the battle of Norway and became the Thane of Cawdor. For brave Macbeth disdainding fortune with his brandished steel which smoked with bloody execution( ACT1 SC2 LNS18-20). Macbeth is also a gullible man, when he runs into the witches he believes them when they say, all hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter(act1 sn2 line 50) . He is so gullible to what these witches said that he killed his best friend Banquo and nearly kills Banquo's son. Macbeth also was convinced by his wife to kill Duncan. Macbeth conscious becomes guilty after he kills Duncan when he said, will all great neptunes ocean wash this blood clean from my hand?(act2 sn2 lines 79-80). He is thinking that nothing can take back the murders he had committed.
There is some scientific basis for this claim. Studies have shown that both a person’s genetic structure and the circumstances to which he or she is subjected have bearing on how a person thinks, feels and acts. Considering this, the actions of the character Macbeth must be evaluated by his personal motivations and the external causes that may have led to them. It is established from the very beginning that Macbeth is ambitious. There can be no doubt about this. A certain level of courage accompanies his ambition as well. As a noble he is an active one, fighting against the rebel hordes and Norwegians in defense of his king, no doubt for the purpose of gaining notoriety and other rewards. This is further illustrated by his gracious acceptance of credit for his deeds. He is a political figure in the highest sense, and show ambition in this way. However, there is no sign of him altering his course of loyal nobleman until outside influences begin to intercede. The people with greatest impact on Macbeth are the witches, his wife and Lady, and King Duncan of Scotland. The witches introduce the idea, King Duncan gives personal motive, and Lady Macbeth helps along the way.
William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a play centred around opposing forces trying to gain power in the succession for the throne of Scotland. Macbeth, in the beginning, is known to be a noble and strong willed man, who is ready to fight for his country. However, one may see that Macbeth has a darker side to him, he is power hungry and blood thirsty, and will not stop until he has secured his spot as King of Scotland. Though Macbeth may be a tyrant, he is very nave, gullible, and vulnerable.
Overall, I believe that Macbeth was a villain as he had a ‘Vaulting ambition’ to become King with a little help from the witches. The witches had great effect on Macbeth as a character and a huge effect on the plot of the play.
At the beginning, Macbeth is spoken about by the three witches and we can tell that Macbeth must have had a reputation for being popular. He is called ‘brave Macbeth’; and is involved in bloody conflicts. Described as the hero, we learn that Macbeth himself killed Macdonwald in a battle that could have gone either way without the help of Macbeth’s talent on the battlefield. He is also portrayed as a heartfelt and caring man, when he himself decides that it is the wrong thing to do to murder the country’s own king – Duncan so that he can be king like the witches said. Everything about his character near the start of the play is good, and it seems as though he was the person people idolised at the time.

Many directors, actors, and audience members have different opinions regarding to the titular character of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Harold Bloom, author of Bloom’s Guides: Macbeth, states his belief that “Macbeth is a villain, indeed a monster of murderousness.” (Bloom 7). Indeed even Macbeth’s rival, Macduff, calls him a “rare monster.” (Macbeth 1.5.76-78)
One personality trait that affects Macbeth’s fate is his bravery. Macbeth is a strong warrior. He was praised for splitting someone in half from their head to their naval. The Captain states, “For brave Macbeth - well he deserves that name- disdaining fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smoked with bloody execution… till he undeam’d him from the nave to th’ chops…” (Macbeth 22) In this quote, the Captain is commenting on Macbeth's bravery when in battle. While at the
At the beginning of the play Macbeth is praised by many people and looked up to as a war hero. “For brave Macbeth – well he deserves that name” 1:2:16. He is well respected by the king and even chosen by him to be the new Thane of Cawdor. Even Macbeth knows that he is at a good point in his life “I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people” 1:7:33. So we form an opinion that he is a great man.
Macbeth is a very complex character whom reflects man's thirst for power through the drastic changes of his personality; thus being one of the slightest reasons in which make this intriguing character, greatest of all Shakespearean’s well-known works.
Macbeth, the main character in the tragedy of Macbeth, undergoes a series of character changes throughout the play. His transformation occurs in three major stages. First comes his attitude at the beginning of Macbeth where it is very positive and powerful. Subsequently he endures a change with the murder of king Duncan that reduces him from his moral and good status. Finally, he becomes wicked in his ways and develops into a tyrant and a butcher. This series of changes are evident as one reads the tragic play of Macbeth.
We have seen many different sides of Macbeth’s personality so far in the play. So far we are in act one and scene seven and there are many traits to talk about that Macbeth has. Also, many of these traits have affected the plot of the play very early in the play.
1.Macbeth is full of courage and skill. "So they doubly redoubled strokes upon the foe. (1,1,38)" Macbeth was unfathomed by the enemy and would strike them down before they could get a chance to really attack him. He was a fine warrior.
