Lady Macbeth in William Shakespeare's Macbeth In the beginning Lady Macbeth was just a normal woman who cared about her husband and was happy when he was around. She was proud of him because he was the kings knight and she would do anything for him. Lady Macbeth was very ambitious for her husband to become rich and powerful. She starts to make plans for making this happen as soon as she reads the letter that Macbeth sends to her about what the witches have said about him becoming Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland. As soon as she has finished reading the letter she decides that she will make sure that her husband will be king. Lady Macbeth knows that the only way that her husband can be king is if Duncan dies and the only way that would happen now was if he was murdered. She also knows that she is not naturally a cruel person and that she will need evil power to make her strong enough to help with the murder of Duncan. So she calls on the evil spirits to help her become less of a woman and more cruel and hard like a man. She is worried that Macbeth is "too full o'th'milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way". Lady Macbeth becomes obsessed with her evil plans and will not allow Macbeth to think of failure. When Macbeth comes home and tells her that Duncan is coming to stay with them she thinks that this is the time to make the prophecy come
