My dearest love Banquo, Although I am honored to have been able to go to our King’s feast when you did not show up, the dinner did not go as expected. The night started out lovely- the King greeted us with kindness and we all sat down to appetizers of pottage and bread. It was when I was wondering off the find the bathroom that King Macbeth got up to answer the door. I of course, thought nothing of it, just assuming the person at the door was another guest. When I was walking back to find my seat, I got a look at the person at the door. He was a middle aged man, who appeared to be homeless and had splashes of blood all over his face. It is safe to assume now that the man was not a dinner guest. I was only able to catch part of their conversation as I made my way back to the table. It was when Ross and Lennox pointed out an empty seat for King Macbeth to sit in, that his mood took a sudden turn. When he first looked at the table, his face became so white it was as if he saw a ghost. He then backed away from the table as if startled by something, and began to shout at the empty seat like someone was there. This had clearly startled all the guests, so Lady Macbeth hushed him and tried to give an explanation. She told us that King Macbeth had been living with this condition since he was young, and that he would stop acting crazy in a few minutes. As she gave this explanation, I could hear the lies behind it. She had this frightened look on her face the whole time she was talking. It was clear by that look that she did not know what Macbeth was doing. Lady Macbeth then took King Macbeth away for a minute, and I knew that I needed to hear that conversation.
