In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth is the most ambitious character, especially when compared to her husband Macbeth when plotting Duncan’s murder, willingness to kill her own baby and she wishes to have been born a man. To begin with, Lady Macbeth knew Macbeth’s weaknesses and how to motivate him to kill Duncan, “That I may pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valor of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round, which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem to have thee crowned withal.” (1.5.16-19). Macbeth and Lady Macbeth seem to be similar characters but are different in many aspects. Lady Macbeth influences her husband to do things that will benefit the both of them. Macbeth has a hard time embracing the idea of murdering Macbeth lacks ambition, action, and destruction which proves their differences. Accordingly, Lady Macbeth shows her ambition and drive when she says she is willing to kill her on baby, “I have given suck, and know how tender ‘tis to love the babe that milks me. I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this.” (1.7.55-59). Lady Macbeth is trying to prove her willingness to eliminate anyone who stands in her way. She continues to be the dominant character in her relationship with Macbeth. She uses her own ambition as persuasion to influence Macbeth to kill Duncan, and is trying to make Macbeth come to the realization that he deserves to be king. Macbeth struggles being overwhelmed with ambition and self doubt. He constantly questions his own actions and relies on Lady Macbeth for all decisions. If the roles were reversed, Macbeth would never make a proposal that he would kill his own
