There has been many arguments within history whether some bog bodies that have been discovered were in fact murder opposed to the much idolodiesed idea of a sacrifice. However, could the bodies actually suggest a sacrifice opposed to murder? Yde Girl, a young 16 year old girl whom was founded in the Stijifveen peat bog near a village called Yde, is a body that has been identified as a much suspicious death and one, that has brought much controversy debates within history. On the 12kth of May, 1897, a worker whom dredged peat from a bog near Yde in Netherlands, made the discovery of the red haired 16 year old. Much to his surprise, he fled from the body believing he had just come in contact with the devil. After two weeks of the discovery of …show more content…
The tannic acid within the water allowed the body to be preserved and has allowed many investigations to take part to gain an understanding of the reasoning behind the girl’s death. After the body underwent body scans, it supplied the evidence that Yde Girl suffered from scoliosis which is a disease of the spine. Due the this knowledge, is has allowed many historians come to the conclusion that the girl was murder as she was seen not to be “useful” within her time and her ill body would not effectively help her community. After further scans of the body, it is notably evident that the girl was pigeon toed, which could have been due to her scoliosis and her left ankle was in fact swollen also allowing for historians to come to the conclusion that she supplied most her weight to the one side, as too a side effect to the scoliosis. Due to the poor condition the body was left in after the excavation occurred, it is hard to determine that the cut on her collar bone was caused because of the diggers or, if they cut had been during her death. Many people it is not a part of her death nor a contribution to the passing however, some debate whether she was tortured before her passing. This ideology further supports the murder of the girl, and the lack of self-defence marks to be murderous is much rather backed up when partnered with the …show more content…
However, it is evidential that Yde Girl had suffered from injuries before the cause of her death and her spinal disease does easily make her a target to be sacrificed as it was thought she wasn’t going to live a long life but, it is also evidential that her disease could quite possible be the reasoning as to why the murderous act took place; she did not serve the public and it was uncommon for such a disease to be

There are numerous unanswered questions surrounding the Northern European Bog Bodies phenomenon including "How, or why, or even when, the bodies became immersed in quagmires." (Turner, R.C, Scaife, R.G (ed.),1995,p.169). Despite vast amounts of evidence there are still no easy answers that account for the Iron age bodies. However there are four main competing theories providing possible causes including: the Sacrifice theory, Punishment theory, Boundary theory and the Accidental death theory. All these competing theories will be further examined and critically analysed throughout this text allowing us to depict the most convincing and plausible solution for the mystery of the Iron Age Bog Bodies.
Jennie Wade was the only civilian to die in the battle of Gettysburg. Jennie Wade was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and died there just twenty short years later. The battle of Gettysburg was then known as one of the bloodiest battles in the American civil war. This caused a single civilian to lose their life, Jennie Wade was that person to die at Gettysburg. Many other civilians died in the war itself, but only she died at Gettysburg.
Tragically, the butchered upper-torso of Winter’s once-robust body was stumbled upon by his father, who had noticed the absence of his son since Sunday, March 11 (Smith 2002, 25-26). Unsurprisingly, an investigation occurred to obtain the identity and whereabouts of the murderer. When the various pieces of the body are found in differing areas of the town, theory begins to formulate that the murder was conducted by one of the two butchers in town; Adolph Lewy, a Jew, and Gustav Hoffman, a Christian, due to the precision of the cuts made upon Winter’s body (Smith 28).
This week’s reflection is on a book titled Girls Like Us and it is authored by Rachel Lloyd. The cover also says “fighting for a world where girls not for sale”. After reading that title I had a feeling this book was going to be about girls being prostituted at a young age and after reading prologue I sadly realized I was right in my prediction.

Archaeologist Miranda Green has said that the injuries on the bog bodies clearly display that the effort and care that has been put into the execution of these bodies supports the hypothesis that they were not executed as a disciplinary measure, but as ritualized sacrifices. Though Miranda Green was not there at the time of the killing, she has studied the wounds on the bodies which have shown a great help in determining what happened to

The African American male community and colorism aren’t as affected by the judgement and abused as that of a women. Our community of African Americans are supposed to live in harmony because of everything that we have been through, For example, slavery, voting, etc... The African American male community to judge women on their skin shade, their looks, and their personality has my interiors aching. It has always been the male's job to raise a family by supplying the money to put food on the table not whether they're being mistreated by a shade of color. A woman is the one that is being put down by their shade of color and judged by how black they are compared to the rest of the world. It’s supposed to be the male's job to help the women out, but they’re the ones that judge and ridicule them the most.
Les Femmes Savantes The Learned Ladies is an astounding play. As each new character enters time transforms characters are bedazzled, enchanted and wigged we know we are sharing the stage with royalty. The women’s gowns are extremely detailed with hoop shirts to make them puffy the men are wearing exceptionally detailed waistcoats. This comical drama is set in the living room or “salon” of the family. This plays plot is focused on one major couples chaotic and forbidden love. The characters are joined by blood and lead by the controlling wife, Philamonte (Maya Jackson) and her weak spouse Chrysale (Edward Brown III). Jackson’s voice is directing with a profound tone that would have the capacity to stop anybody dead in their tracks. It is not

Girl by Jamaica Kincaid demonstrate how a mother cautions her daughter, in becoming a responsible woman in her society. Although the daughter hasn’t gotten into adolescence yet, the mother fears that her daughter’s current behavior, if continued, will tip to a life of promiscuity. The mother believes that a woman’s status or propriety determines the quality of her life in the community. Hence, gender roles, must be carefully guarded to maintain a respectable front. Her advice centers on how to uphold responsibility. The mother cautions her daughter endlessly; emphasising on how much she wants her to realize her role in the society by acting like woman in order to be respected by the community and the world at large. Thus, Jamaica Kincaid’s
When someone says forensic anthropology, many minds go directly to beautiful woman working alongside good-looking men while they work to solve a murder in a day’s time, thanks to the media craze with homicide. The recently popular television show Bones, put the field of anthropology in the spotlight. Though the show gives fairly accurate information, many viewers, myself included, have developed a great curiosity for how the work is done. In this paper, I will share with you the answers to many of the questions I have asked myself in my many hours of watching this popular show, including: the process of identifying race, age and sex of a victim, determining whether an injury was antemortem, perimortem or postmortem, and how one is able to interpret the injuries in the case of the death.
