Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Dentistry may be defined by many as the occupation of teeth care, but to me, it is so much more than that. Dentistry is not just a service - it is a relationship between dental care professionals and their patients. In order to provide the best quality of dental care possible, not only must one be well versed in dentistry, but also in how to make patients feel safe, well-cared for, and accepted. Without trust, the patient may feel that he or she is not getting the best service, and the patient is indeed right. Lack of trust on the patient’s part cannot only reveal an impression of an uncaring dental care professional, but also a lack of competency. Patients should be taken seriously, not only because of the fact that they deserve to be treated well, but also because patients’ results and behaviors are a direct …show more content…
He or she must never be content with their current knowledge and/or quality of care: he or she must be constantly seeking out ways in which he or she can improve. To practice good dentistry also means to be able to accept one’s mistakes and learn from them. As humans, it is natural for us to make mistakes, but what is important is that we move on and learn from them. Another element central to the dental profession is integrity. Such experiences are crucial to learning, since it not only leads to knowledge but also perseverance. Not only is integrity an important component of patient trust, but it is also a crucial part of professionalism. As dental health care professionals, we are not only trusted with a delicate part of the human body, but also with a considerable amount of confidential information, along with a position of power. We must treat the information responsibly in order to preserve patient privacy, along with ensuring that we never abuse our power by suggesting something that benefits ourselves instead of our
In the Dental Hygiene field, many challenges come about every day and during different situations. Every day there are new challenges and unusual situations that occur in the dental field, but one challenge that continues to come about and has been a big dispute over the years is the ability to provide beneficial information about oral health care for the underprivileged. For the individuals that are not fortunate enough to pay to have services done in the dental office, lack the knowledge of how important good oral health care is. They do not receive the one on one conversations explaining the significance of taking care of your teeth and gums that the patients who can afford to make appointments and receive essential services do. That
After the treatment and procedure is complete, patients leave with healthier, more beautiful teeth, giving them the confidence to ask someone out on a date or the confidence to smile on an important job interview. Dentistry is and has been for centuries, an important aspect of people’s ...
The dentist-patient relationship is based on trust, which is vital in achieving patients’ best interest. In order to ensure patients receive the best dental care possible, the General Dental Council (GDC) binds the dental team to ethical principles that require effective leadership, management skills and clinical competence. (GDC, 2013) Ethical dilemmas involving the dental team require a diplomatic approach in solving so that the patients’ best interest are not undermined.
Working in the dental field, one can be employed in a multitude of titles. The role of each person in the dental office is not only to help the oral health of a person, but to help an individual's personal self esteem. Each professional has an ideal and structural role when performing dental procedures on patients. The goal of dental assistants and dental hygienists are to make patients feel better about their self image, but each job individually creates a positive outcome of the client.
It is a vital role of a dentist to prevent the dental problems in order to decrease the number of oral disease.
Practicing dental hygienists, are expected to maintain certain level of professionalism during interaction with patients, collegues and other professionals. There are six values defined by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) that serve to guide dental hygienists to maintain and improve their level of professionalism. These six values include, competence, fairness, integrity, responsibility, respect, and service-mindedness. Integrating fairness and responsibility into everyday dental hygiene practice will be discussed in this paper.
Imagine having to spend half your fortune on correcting your teeth.”Tooth decay was a perennial national problem that meant a mouthful of silver for patients, and for dentists a pocketful of gold.” (Wallis, 17) If patients don’t take care of their teeth, many issues can start to appear later in their life. Some patients are not knowledgeable of the correct procedures toward keeping a healthy smile. In order to keep a healthy smile patients must be better informed about the knowledge to achieve that success and also maintain.
At CADH, I was taught how to act upon the eight competencies in different aspects for the public. As a clinician I was taught how to apply the dental hygiene process of care; assessing signs and symptoms, as well as risks factors related to oral disease, and then make a diagnosis, plan, implement, and evaluate the treatment within the dental hygiene scope of practice. One of many important roles of being a dental hygienist is being part of a dental care team where I we work in collaboration with a dentist or a dental specialist. I have been able to extensively develop my management skills to understand the administrative setting of the school, as well as the authority responsibilities and roles of my faculty and other professionals involved. As an administrator, I am responsible to manage my clients’ periodontal status, by identifying presence of disease, setting care priorities, eliminating risk factors, and deciding whether the client is already in the maintenance state or needs further special treatment. As ...
An active participation in problem discussion with the patients and openness to all types of doubts by the dentist helps in building a strong doctor-patient relationship. You may be anxious before the root canal treatment appointment or may have the doubt whether implant surgery is the best option for you. There will be a myriad of situations where only a dentist can advise what is best for you. So, always choose a dentist who is compassionate and has good communication

Continuous research linking oral health and general health will spur the demand for preventative dental services, which are usually by dental hygienists. Most of the 183,000 or more registered dental hygienists work in dental offices with regular dentists. They will normally see a patient first and clean the patient’s teeth. They remove tartar, stains and plaque as they brush, floss and scrape. Dental hygienists are involved in helping patients on the best ways to brush and floss teeth, as well as the best products to use on their teeth. Even with all their technical skills and classes they took, dental hygienists need to be excellent communicators. “ The client’s head is in their lap basically,” Swanson Jaecks says. “They should know how to read a client and relate to a client.” She also says that good hand-eye coordination is a necessity, and so are the critical-thinking skills, since dental hygienists are on the front lines of a client’s oral health. I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
