Everyone needs an education. Whether it's an adult going to college, or teenager going to highh school, everyone deserves one. Sadly, many, many children around the world and in the United States do not have this luxury. This is a huge problem in today's society, and the United States should be doing more to help.
Not being able to recieve an education is a violation of a child's rights. This happens all the time in many different places. Over 70 million children are prevented from going to school all around the world today. In the United States, it happens in poor families and neighboorhoods. Around the world, it happens in places lke Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and in many Arab states (Humanium 1). But where it happens shouldn't matter.

Well, a lack of education happens for many reasons. Some children aren't able to get one because of a bad economy in the place they live, or things like sexism and child labor (Shepard 1). In many cases, extremists purposely stop a child from going to school because of religion or politics. Some children, especially teenagers, drop out because class sizes are too big. This happens because there are too many kids an not enough teachers. If this happens, the teacher can not accomadate every child. Kids with disabilites or mental issues sometimes don't even get the chance to get an education. Some schools face the problem of having untrained teachers. Some schools don't have enough teachers. But the main reason is lack of money. Schools don't have enough money to pay teachers, buy supplies, or even build more classrooms or buy technology. This is something the United States could easily help with. Schools in the United States could donate old uniforms, textbooks, and supplies that are old or outdated. Small things like these can make a huge difference in a child's …show more content…
But although the United States has orginizations like UNESCO that help illiteracy around the world, it can always do more. Having children get an education solves so many problems that can occur in the future. Illiterate teachers are only illiterate because they didn't have the chance to get a good education. If children are educated at the start, this can be prevented. Education solves so many problems. An advocate for education around the world, Malala Yousafzai spoke on this subject saying, "Education is the only solution." This is entirely true. Malala Yousafzai was shot by taliban for trying to recieve her educaiton when she was sixteen. This is an example of how important educaiton is to a child. Getting children an education now means having more teachers, scientists, and activists in the world. It means more children growing up to succeed. With the United States' help, more children can grow up and get a diploma. After all, getting a diploma and degree means a child will be able to support themselves and their family when they grow
In addition, student’s schoolwork and progress began to decline due to undernourishment. Many children were not able to stay in school because there was not enough money to keep the schools open. A third of a million children were out of school during the Great Depression (Farrell 14). Also, children of poor families dropped out of school because they felt obligated to help support their family financially. In To Kill A Mockingbird Scout describes the Ewell family, who only attends school the first day of every year because their family is poor:
Writer, political activist, and feminist Malala Yousafzai once said, “One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen, can change the world.” Education is not a luxury, but rather a basis for survival; sadly, thirty-one million females ages five through eleven are not in a primary school and seventeen million of these females are expected to never enroll in school (Education). Malala Yousafzai fought, and is currently still fighting for education rights for women and children (Van). Malala Yousafzai defied a law which she determined unjust and was prepared to pay the ultimate price: her life. Due to Yousafzai’s personal beliefs, she choose to participate in civil disobedience by protesting the ban on education. Malala Yousafzai was successful in her actions through the use of peaceful protest. Yousafzai committed an act of civil disobedience in the eyes of the Taliban. Civil disobedience is defined as peace protest that violates a law intentionally (Suber). In addition to
That is highly disturbing that a child has to suffer through something as humiliating as that. Our public system does not encourage academic growth, it hampers it. Over the years a lot of money has been put into trying to fix our public school systems, but there has not been any improvement. Our public school system is dysfunctional and
Do you believe all children should have the opportunity to go to college? Most importantly many children want to go to college in America to better themselves and to live comfortable. There are many children who are undocumented who want to attend college (Tamer). Now only 18 states allow undocumented students to go to college and only five offer financial aid (Anderson). Some people think that undocumented children should not be able to attend college because it would encourage too much immigration. In fact, immigration makes America more diverse and makes America respected and a strong independent country. Undocumented children should be allowed admission to college, be eligible for financial aid and scholarships in order to support a diverse and economically strong society.
Soon after, Malala was born and a favorite of her father’s. He taught her the value of education and how he had to struggle and claw his way to get a decent education. He preached that every person should have the right to go to school and be educated. Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, is a very influential person in the village and a great role model as Malala grew up. He participated in Anti-Taliban organizations and constantly preached for peace, educational rights and for th...
The United States of America has placed low on the educational ladder throughout the years. The cause of such a low ranking is due to such heavy emphasis on standardized testing and not individual student achievement. Although the United States uses standardized testing as a crutch, it is not an effective measure of a student’s ability, a teacher’s competency, or a school’s proficiency.
Something I have always known since I was a little kid is that the educational system in this country is a complete fraud. American schools claim to live by the ideal of No Child Left Behind, but millions of students get cast aside each and every year. In schools these days, it is obvious which students are the elite—those that are raised up and motivated to go to college—and the ordinary student— those that are somewhat ignored throughout their schooling and are lucky if they even earn a GED. As a recent graduate of high school, and a product of this country’s educational system, I have had the opportunity to develop my own opinions regarding the myth of education in our society. Based upon my observations going through the school system, and the various arguments posed by several authors in “Rereading America”, I strongly believe that schooling in this society caters solely to students in the elite category while ostracizing students that do not live up to the elitist ideal.
...of money, but money alone is not going to solve it. There are always going to be people that are going to take for granted their education. It is the government’s responsibility to see education be equal for all, but also an individual responsibility to take the time to sit down with each other and talk about the importance of school, learning, and education.
America now knows where they stand on the totem pole regarding education. Having a powerful military and democratic government will only get Americans so far as being a world leader. Teaching American students rigorously will increase America’s dominance as a country and as a people for generations. Teachers are an essential need in America. The United States often takes teachers for granted and if the U.S. government helps educators by improving the quality of their teaching, students will succeed in the classroom. America can perhaps no longer be a country with a zombie-like attitude, but a country thriving with accomplished students supported by the community around them.
Low- income children 's school districts often lack the money to provide these children with resources, and therefore the children will not get these resources any other way. Devarics (2011) stated, "Only 22 percent of local districts reported offering pre-kindergarten or other early learning programs for low-income children" (para.8). Denying this resource affects the many children who reside where that 78 percent of local districts do not offer pre-kindergarten, because many go to kindergarten not knowing minimal skills required. As a consequence, this postpones their education even further. Moreover, Davarics (2011) also stated, "Many schools aren 't educationally where they need to be, which ultimately means many students won 't graduate ready to succeed in a career or in higher education," (para.11). Many low-income schools do not offer activities such as, art, music or sports, because of the lack of money, facilities, or staff. They are not supplied with the right tools and have poor access to computers and Internet. They also do not offer rigorous courses at many of these schools, and have less qualified, trained, and less experienced staff that cannot proficiently teach such courses. Going to school with these disadvantages, can make these children unmotivated to continue an education where there will be little educational progress.
Education is something various people feel extremely passionate about and would not want anything else, but a strong educational system around the world. Countless children around the world do not acquire the right to an education and various of those children are girls. Malala is one of those persons that enjoys education and her dream is to have an education for every girl that is being deprived of her rights. Malala has slowly turned herself into a symbol of peace and her novel is able to reflect that throughout her novel by applying various rhetorical devices. Malala Yousafzai the author of “I am Malala” is able to apply imagery, pathos, and analogy effectively to make an impact on her audience.
And that is what the religion asks people to be. She also talked about the importance of receiving education, and how educated people are stronger than uneducated people. That is the reason why the Taliban are against education. Malala pointed out that peace and education are related to each other. Moreover, she presented that women and girls should be encouraged to receive education, therefore they are the most individuals who suffer from inequality to be educated.
Thanks to Malala, she has fought for equal education for all women out there. “Education is neither eastern nor western. Education is education and it's the right of every human being,”said Malala Yousafzai. Malala is big on education which is one of the most important things in your lifetime. She is taking an action by making it to where everyone, either boy or girl, to have what is needed. Even though Malala Yousafzai got shot for speaking up against equal education for women, she still kept going and blocked off the negatives that happened in her life. Now, Malala is an inspiration to little kids all around the world. She’s won incredible awards for her actions she had spoken up up for. From the Nobel Peace Prize, to a Grammy Award. She has even gotten into University of Oxford, one of the best universities in the world! With that Malala will become a hero and a legend to inspire other kids like her to speak up and take action. You see, Malala is not just an ordinary person. She changed the world by her powerful words and speeches to which it’s motivating for other people the not only change the world, but to change
For the most part it is not the students fault as to why they are failing, but the teachers. In run down schools in poor towns, most teachers can only do so much with what they are given. In most cases it leads the teachers to just give up. In David K. Shipler’s The Working Poor: Invisible in America, Shipler states, “It had been a science class, and the teacher had given up and allowed a student who had brought a Nintendo game to plug it in” (Shipler 240). If the teacher ends up giving up or stops caring all together, the student will follow suit. In the student’s mind if the authority does not see it as important, why should they. It is important that the teachers, no matter the school, not give up on the students, for most it is the only the students have to look up to. According to Lyndsey Layton, writer for the Washington Post, just about 11 million children were living below the poverty level (Layton). For that amount of children to be living that low in life is unacceptable, but because of how education is in these areas where the children are living in are bad, they don’t have much hope for their future. Education is the only outlook these kids have for a better future and if that is corrupt or interfered with than there is a really good chance of them not being able to escape the poverty. Although there are millions of teachers that do strive to provide the best for his or her
Education is considered to be one of the most is important thing in our life. we can say that education is the knowledge or the skill that can be taken . Education can teach us as individuals or communities the good things and the bad , it can help us to have a good choice for our future based on our strengths or weakness ( in high school you can gain these skills ) and direct us to our role in society . Some countries do not have good standards in education , resulting in a society having aimless lives. Some of them find themselves as criminals or useless people so they did not feel their role to improve their countries and most of them do not take their responsibilities toward their children, which make the children consider as negative citizens.
