There are thousands of laboratories in the world, basic laboratories in schools and universities and laboratories that carry out very advanced experiments with high technology and advanced methodologies. There are special methods and protocols that should be strictly followed when working inside a laboratory. Figure 1: Working in a laboratory practicing proper protocols. These special methods are for the safety of the person engaging in laboratory experiments. There are also special attire that should be worn before entering into a laboratory. The following are the basic rules and regulations that has to be followed in laboratories. [1] 1. Conduct yourself really well and careful whenever working inside the laboratory 2. Strictly follow the instructions (verbal and written) when engaging in experiment. Seek help from teachers or other responsible persons whenever a clarification is needed. 3. When entering the laboratory do not work alone, do not touch, smell any chemical without prior advice of the instructor. Do not touch any a laboratory equipment without advice of the instructor. 4. Do not eat any food, beverages in the laboratory .Do not use any laboratory while eating or having beverages 5. Be prepared for the lab session. When handling chemicals, never return unused chemicals into its original container. 20. When handling glassware examine for shatters before use and never touch shattered glass with bear hands. 21. When heating in the laboratory seek help of the instructor to operate the Bunsen burner, hot plate. 22. Never look into the chemicals when it is being heated. Figure 6: Laboratory experiments should be done carefully WASTE DISPOSAL IN LABORATORY Chemical waste should be disposed by following proper methods because most of the chemicals used in the laboratories are harmful. Concentrated and diluted acids and alkalis, harmless soluble inorganic salts, alcohols containing salts etc. are most commonly disposed by draining them with excess water. This water should not follow common drainage system or any water resource. All organic solvents, soluble organic waste and as well as paraffin is disposed by incineration. Other miner wastes and controlled waste materials are collected into bins and then disposed later by using proper procedure.
