During the 1800’s, the Market Revolution forced many changes that effected the way employees or laborers were treated. During the Market Revolution, the economy was booming and many businesses and factories were building and growing. As a result, many laborers, including men, women, and children were working many hours a day for limited pay. The businesses and factories offered employment opportunities, but seemed to treat their workers similar to slaves or as if they owned them. Laborers were required to work long hours each day. The employers argued that they required them to work so much to keep them from going out and getting drunk. Laborers would meet the demands of these employers as they felt it was the only way to make an income
