Entering my senior year in 2017, I find myself dealing with a financial obstacle impeding me from finishing my last semester of undergraduate studies. Despite being awarded a merit-based partial scholarship from my university, which has helped reduce the tuition costs to almost match that of an in-state student, I would be required to obtain a second student loan in order to finish my studies. By receiving the La Unidad Latina National Scholarship, I will be able to fund my education and achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
What are your career goals? *
(200-300 words)
After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, my goal is to find a position as a Staff Auditor for an accounting firm. To achieve that, I have set out to obtain an Audit and Accounting internship within the next year to acquire valuable professional experience and the possibility of being offered a full-time position. So far, I have applied for an internship at one of the Big Four accounting firms and I’m yet to apply to more local firms.
As an alternative to becoming an auditor,

To better organize “Be A Tiger Day”, we decided to form committees to coordinate the tour, academic advising, lunch and recreational activities. As the only Spanish speaker for the course, I played an important role for the event as I was the one who had to translate to the group of almost 50 students. By doing so, the students felt more comfortable with asking me questions about our university, the different majors, and the student lifestyle. By the end of the event, we could see the excitement in everyone’s faces as some students would shout: “This is the best day ever!”. “Be A Tiger Day” turned out to be a success, and it also strengthened my relationship with them as a tutor. Since then, I have enjoyed my community service even
It can be hard for a latina woman to be taken seriously in an education based profession. Stereotypes and unfair inferences are the cause of such hardships. The ethnic studies professor at Washington State University, Carmen R. Lugo-Lugo is no exception. She faces many obstacles a latin professor likely would face while teaching students about ethnic studies. The majority of professors students encounter are often white males. Lugo-Lugo realizes this and makes countless attempts at showing her colleagues and students that she is at their level. She writes many articles about her area of expertise. What she focuses on is society's views of race, sexuality, gender and culture. In the article “A Prostitute, a Servant, and a Customer Service Representative: a Latina in Academia” the author Carmen R. Lugo-Lugo demonstrates usage of ethos, pathos and logos to persuade her audience to be more culturally
In the months preceding the start of my Federal Tax internship with KPMG, LLP this past summer, I had mixed expectations not only about the potentially difficult work I would be asked to complete, but also about how I would fit in at such a big and prestigious accounting firm with my limited experience and knowledge. In anticipation of my summer at KPMG, I would find myself searching the Internet for articles and forums with helpful advice for new coming “Big-Four” accounting interns and brushing up on some potentially helpful excel formulas. But, as my start date grew nearer, my nerves were progressively replaced with excitement and an eagerness to learn.
Traditionally Latina woman are not encouraged to pursue higher education. However, I saw my sister go to the university and become a dentist in México, for that reason I want to research how many Latinas women in the United States pursue a higher education. During my research, I find out that more Latinas are going to college and more Latinas are prioritizing college before love. They want to become self – sufficient but also along the way, some Latinas are still dropping out of high school.
Majored in accounting during my undergraduate at Michigan State University, I am determined to be an audit professional at a public accounting firm in Toronto upon graduation from MMPA program. To better qualify myself and equip myself with advanced accounting knowledge, I am dedicated to obtaining the CPA designation as well. In the next three to five years, I see myself being promoted from an associate to a manager who will lead a team and direct a project. Working as a manager in a public accounting firm will definitely sharpen my leadership ability and problem-solving skills, which are prerequisites for my long-term career objective. Ten years down the road, I want to work in the finance department of a public company as CFO or controller,
Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
First of all, five years from now, I want to work in an entry level accounting position. My priority is to apply for an auditing position as is one the most useful areas for a forensic accountant. I know that auditors have a busy season and I really don’t mind that. The reason I don’t care is that I have been having year round “busy seasons” with reluctant three months’ vacation since I commenced my higher education.
Before stating my career goals, I would like to mention my motivation in choosing accounting as my career path, the origin of which is elaborated in essay three. As a rigorous and responsible girl with strong rule consciousness, I will commit to providing more accurate and timely accounting information, in order to optimize the business management and help the public understand the operating condition better, thus defending social justice and contributing to well-being.
My third goal is to become an auditor of Ernst& Young after graduating from my master’s degree. I have talked with many professionals at Ernst &Young. The diversity of the internal culture fascinates me. Public accounting is always a
The evolution of auditing is a complicated history that has always been changing through historical events. Auditing always changed to meet the needs of the business environment of that day. Auditing has been around since the beginning of human civilization, focusing mainly, at first, on finding efraud. As the United States grew, the business world grew, and auditing began to play more important roles. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, people began to invest money into large corporations. The Stock Market crash of 1929 and various scandals made auditors realize that their roles in society were very important. Scandals and stock market crashes made auditors aware of deficiencies in auditing, and the auditing community was always quick to fix those deficiencies. The auditors’ job became more difficult as the accounting principles changed, and became easier with the use of internal controls. These controls introduced the need for testing; not an in-depth detailed audit. Auditing jobs would have to change to meet the changing business world. The invention of computers impacted the auditors’ world by making their job at times easier and at times making their job more difficult. Finally, the auditors’ job of certifying and testing companies’ financial statements is the backbone of the business world.
First, I will express my personal mastery journey with my work life. I just recently graduated from the University of Indianapolis with my undergraduate degree in accounting. I graduated with a high GPA while participating in collegiate baseball, which I believe will help set me apart from others when beginning my career. That being said, I also believe that I have a lot of learning to do in order to be successful in my early career. I feel that I did not learn as much as I should have about accounting and I will need to dedicate a significant amount of time relearning and learning to have success in the accounting field. My vision for my career is to be a partner at a mid-level accounting firm in my early to mid 30’s. I aspire to be at a company that challenges me and allows me to progress and meet my goals. I would prefer a mid-level accounting firm because it would allow a better work life balance due to less hours. In order for me to bridge this very large gap of where I am currently at and where I aspire to be, there are a great deal of obstacles I need to overcome. First, I need to land an entry level position with an accounting firm that I feel will allow me to grow and succeed. I also need to put in the time to learn as much as I can about the profession. Finally, I need to allocate a substantial amount of time to studying and passing the certified public accountant exam. This is my
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it. When I heard the words community service, all I could picture is cleaning Philadelphia parks or streets that were filled with trash in either the cold or heat. My mind always went to that space because that 's what my first few encounters with community service consisted of. My high school always had us cleaning something; one time we re-landscaped the parking lot of a homeless shelter. Another time, we cleaned up the weeds out of the loading docks of the non-profit food bank Philabundance. One time my mom made me volunteer
Accounting is one of the fastest growing fields in the United States It expands each time a new store, a factory, a filling station, or a school goes up, whether in a large city or a small town. In today's society, the demand for good accountants for exceeds the supply. As our country has expanded, business and industry have become more and more complex, so control here is very important. And control depends on a great deal of the bookkeepers and accountants who can analyze figues and advise management on what should be done. They are using more scientific ways changing money, figuring change, and collecting sales taxes. Moreover, department stores and other companies now have plants and offices widely scattered throughout the country. A new set of bookkeepers and accountants, is needed at each branch. I know there are many managements supervisory, and junior or senior executive positions are bing filled by people who started as accountants because accountants have the knowledge of methods and finance and comprehension of the fundamentals of business, and acc...
Last but not the least, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all my family members, friends and well-wishers for their immense support and best wishes throughout the internship duration and the preparation of this report.
