Stakeholders of the Situation There are different perspectives to consider in any situation; otherwise known as the people who are impacted in a situation. Different stakeholder in discrimination cases against the LGBT community include employers, co-workers, customers, the family member of the LGBT individual impacted, and the impacted LGBT person themself.
How the LGBT Community is Affected To find out how the LGBT community is personally affected, I turned to a member of it, Amanda Blair. I started out by asking her if she knew of anyone who had been discriminated against while at work because of their sexual orientation and she responded by saying how her friend had been harassed by another co-worker because she was bisexual. An Employer’s Impact
Employers can be impacted negatively by putting people in unfair situations. According to the Engagdet website, some business and employers can be sued in some situations. When homophobic, racist, or sexist remarks are made, businesses can be greatly impacted by potential lawsuits. Although interviewers are not allowed to ask the individual they’re interviewing what their sexual orientation is, according to National Public Radio some employers will take a step farther to find out personal information about their potential employees. Some job employers will search social media in search of finding information about their sexual orientation and other parts of their social life.
However, some examples of discrimination be seen as positive to certain employers. Many employers run their businesses based on their personal beliefs; for example, the Salvation Army runs off of Christian beliefs. In some cases, businesses can express their views and beliefs through their business. Sometimes these ideas are spread in either negative or positive
The recent, dramatic increase in the number of EEOC complaints charging employers with illegal discrimination has forced employers to realize that they are exposed to increasing amounts of liability -- including punitive damages -- for remarks and conduct of their managers and employees. This increased liability reinforces the importance of effectively handling and responding to a charge of discrimination filed with the EEOC. By properly handling the charge at its early stages, an employer can reduce significantly, or possibly eliminate, potential liability.
Racial discrimination in hiring, is the practice of letting a person’s race or skin color becomes an unfairly factor when deciding whether to hire, promote, or other employment benefits. Discrimination is known to exist in all workplaces, sometimes it is too subtle to notice, and other times it is exceedingly obvious. It is known that everyone subconsciously discriminates, dependant on their own beliefs and environments that surround them. However, discrimination can be either positive or negative in their results, and sometimes discrimination is a necessary part of life.
After learning and reviewing the action continuum chart in this class it brought a specific quote to my mind, “if you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem,” while I was aware of other forms of oppression, I only really involved myself with topics and intervention tactics that dealt with racism and sexism, as these were the two areas directly affecting me and my life. One of the topics in this course that stood out to me was the discussion on transgender oppression, before coming to college, information about the transgender community and even sectors of the LGBTQ community was somewhat taboo to me..
Introduction- Discrimination affects people all over the world. People of all ethnicities and from all different walks of life are influenced in some way by workplace discrimination. "Discrimination" means unequal treatment. One of the most common elements discriminated against is a persons ethnicity, or their race. This is called Racial Discrimination. While there are many federal laws concerning discrimination, most states have enacted laws that prohibit it. These laws may have different remedies than the federal laws and may, in certain circumstances be more favorable than the federal laws.
Homosexual activity has been around since the dawn of time. As far back as 9660-5000 BCE there has been evidence of homosexual encounters. Throughout history there have been numerous recordings of homosexual activity, from Roman art depicting homosexual acts during the 1st century, to Leonardo da Vinci who was charged with sodomy on multiple occasions in 1476, the acts of same sex encounters have been no stranger in the past (LGBT social movements, 2014). The LGBT movement however, is a more recent escapade. The LGBT movement is the attempt to change social and political attitudes towards homosexuality for the better. There have been multiple movements in the LGBT community as to date, along with the emergence of numerous LGBT organizations. There are well over fifty different LGBT organizations all over the world. Some are international, such as the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC), and some are country or region based, such as Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) in Uganda. Each organization has its own mission and goals which it wishes to accomplish in order to make the world a better and more equal place for LGBT communities. Two specific LGBT organizations are: the Gay & Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) in the United States, and the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights (RFSL) in Sweden.

Countless organizations are available with the purpose of serving LGBT people who may be suffering, physically, mentally, or emotionally. One of the many goals of the LGBT community is to celebrate individuality, diversity, and sexuality. The LGBT does serve these needs, as it provides a place where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people can be apologetically themselves.
Harassment and discrimination can affect a business in many ways. Having a history of harassment and discrimination claims can damage a business’ reputation and affect its bottom line. It can cost the business current and future clients as well as investors and employees. Depending on the gravity of the claim(s), the process of settling the claim(s) can take anywhere from months to years. Meanwhile, the cost of the settlement and other fees continue to add up. A business might have to compensate the affected parties besides paying court fees and lawyers. The EEOC has seen a rise in monetary rewards from 7.5 million to 24.3 million (Glazer, 1996) However, all of these can be avoided by properly educating employers and employees about their rights and what harassment and discrimination entails.

Work plays an important role in our daily life, it is considered much more huge part of our personal life. During our daily work we make many relationships throughout our career history. Sometimes these relationships become lasting, and sometimes employment discrimination might happen. This relationships that we thought it last could be cut off by the devastation of claims of discriminatory treatment. Discrimination in the workforce has been an issue since the first people of workers in United States in the present day and as well in the past. Some employees were subjected to a harsh working conditions, verbal abuse, denial of advancement,, and many other injustices. There was also the fact that certain employees were being treated differently than other employees.
Discrimination causes job instability which rises the unemployment and poverty rates for LGBT individuals (Burns). Despite the wait for the passing of ENDA, transgender individual’s legal and social standing is improving despite unfair treatment in the workplace (Burns). An increasing number of states, municipalities, and businesses have adopted nondiscrimination protections that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (Burns). Along with these protection laws, the public has started showing support for employment protections and workplace fairness for transgender workers
