TWO Kyle Clarke was a college student at the University of Florida who never left after his time in Gainesville was completed. In his late twenties, his apartment living room was usually littered with dozens of empty beer and soda cans, consuming every inch of counter space. Not to mention the abundance of marijuana paraphernalia scattered about. On this morning, Kyle was slumped over his hand-me-down living room sofa, trying to recover from what seemingly was another drunken bender that he had encountered. As he sleeps, Gator, his red nose Pit Bull, is pulling on Kyle’s sleeve in a poor attempt to wake him up. Gator pulls Kyle off of the couch and Kyle’s face hits the end table before he crashed to the floor. The crash awoke him instantly
and he shot up from the floor, hitting his head on the underneath part of the coffee table. As he looked around confused, he said, “Shit, Gator! What the fuck am I doing sleeping out here?” Kyle rose into a long stretch followed by an even longer yawn. He grabbed a roach joint from the ashtray, lit it up, and took a few pulls. He noticed his cell phone displaying that he had two new text messages. He grabbed his cell phone and read the messages. First Message: Kyle, I know your home. You need to text me back. This is Tom, You remember, your old boss. I’m not sure if you know, But were missing a giant vending machine. We’re not pointing fingers, but how an eight hundred pound vending machine can just up and disappear is just...unfathomable. So, just text or call me back. Kyle couldn’t help but smirk as he passed the vending machine on his way to the bathroom. He started brushing his teeth but as he turned on the water faucet, no water came out. “Come on,” He said. Second Message: Mr. Clarke, this is Margret, your Probation officer. I’m texting in regards to the drug test that we have scheduled for you today. Remember it’s at five O clock. Don’t forget. Text me when you get this. As he gargled a mouth full of beer in place of water, and spit it out he screamed, “Fuck!”
It was Labor Day weekend, 1997, at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and Holly Dunn's world seemed full of possibilities. She was a popular sorority sister, and the 20-year-old had a new boyfriend, a theater major named Chris Maier. That August night, the couple took a midnight stroll to the railroad tracks and kissed under the stars. Suddenly a man appeared; he was holding what looked like an ice pick. Terrified, Chris offered him money. "No, I don't want that," the man said as he tied up the couple. A moment later he picked up a rock and smashed it against Chris's skull, killing him; he then raped Holly and bludgeoned her with a wooden board, breaking her jaw and eye socket. "I was screaming in my head," Holly recalls. "Then I was unconscious—I don't know how long. I just remember appearing in someone's front yard."
Contemporary literature is the sharing of timeless truths that still hold relevance in our current society in a current manner. There is a saying “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the Sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9, n.d.). What the saying means is that anything we experience now has already been experienced and to believe that you have a fresh new idea, way of thinking, activity or anything than you are mistaken. Everything that can be thought of already has been. The story that I read during this session that reminds of this and has helped shape my view on contemporary literature is “Car Crash While Hitchhiking”, it was written by Denis Johnson. I’m going to explain how this story in

He awakens to the sound of whimpers. He then tilts his head to the sound of shoes clinking on the concert floor, and then the light enters his small cage. He raises his head, tail between his legs, to look at the men peering down at him. He knows that the pain from the electric shocks is waiting for him. He doesn’t know why they want to hurt him, after all he’s just a dog.
Ensnared and helpless, there was no way for the dog to escape on his own, he needed Matt’s help. While bounding carelessly through the forest, Attean’s dog managed to trigger a trap and catch his scrawny hind leg in its clutches. Gnawing his own leg of presented itself as the only chance of escape for the dog, unless help found him. As time passed the

One night a young girl, Lily Foster, is left alone for the night, in her Hotel room , while her parents drove out to town for a party. This was fine with Lily, especially since she had her faithful dog, Scout, protecting her throughout the night. She made herself something to eat, and sat down at the kitchen table. Turning on the radio to her favorite station, she was surprised to hear a news bulletin declaring that an avenged murderer was on the loose. It advised that people secure all windows and doors as a safety precaution. With her dog by her side, the young girl locked the front and back doors. She went from window to window, and locked each of them one at a time. She reassured herself that she would be fine with her trusty dog, and that her
The main theme in the book The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle is recognize your secrets and it may help you through current issues you're going through. This is seen in this quote “ I type it up on Elsie’s antique typewriter and I think that it is the biggest secret of all” ( Fowley-Doyle.262). The reason that quote represents the theme of the book is because after Cara types her biggest secret she is then able to put together all of the pieces and recognize what the accident season is. Another quote that represents the theme is when Cara’s mother says “ Of the things he said sometimes. I didn’t want them to be true.
Disappointment, disbelief and fear filled my mind as I lye on my side, sandwiched between the cold, soft dirt and the hot, slick metal of the car. The weight of the car pressed down on the lower half of my body with monster force. It did not hurt, my body was numb. All I could feel was the car hood's mass stamping my body father and farther into the ground. My lungs felt pinched shut and air would neither enter nor escape them. My mind was buzzing. What had just happened? In the distance, on that cursed road, I saw cars driving by completely unaware of what happened, how I felt. I tried to yell but my voice was unheard. All I could do was wait. Wait for someone to help me or wait to die.

The pick-up bounced jarringly down the old dirt road. The driver sat up straight in the front seat, checking over her shoulder every few seconds to make sure that her cargo hadn't fallen out.
Traumatic events come in many different ways at many different times of ones life. Mine came on the school bus while I was on my way home from school. The bus had stopped to let a couple kids off and I stood up to throw some trash away. I stood up we were rear ended by a young lady who had been trying to get a bee out of the car and not realized the bus had stopped. I was standing up and the impact caused me to bang into the seat in front of me and the one behind me. I didn’t realize what had happened until moments later when someone said something. As I began to sit down I felt a sharp pain shoot through my body and my heart started to beat rapidly.

I was crushed by the hot metal and cold dirt of car. I was not feeling my arm,my body was numbed. It was felt like my lower body pressed down with monster force. All I could feel was the noise of car accident ringing in my ear.I was barely able to move my body. I was kept thinking. What my parents going to think about this? Where is my friend John? I looked through the window and saw the cars passing by
