Modeling The Black Mamba My target has always been to be sufficient enough to beat my opponent or colleague that I am playing with or against. Most of my teammates would say I that I am an average player that gets the job done. Although I play and hit like I am not timid most would argue to say that I am indeed actually a player who is quiet and keeps to himself. For this past year my teammates announced me as defensive player of the year, but none really saw me the way I would of wanted them to see me. The majority of the time I find myself focusing on bettering myself only, which is something that I would like to change about myself. I want to be that player that everyone perceives as being the best overall player. Somebody who could lead …show more content…

After winning four state championships in a row with his high school team, Kobe decided to take his talent to the NBA, where then he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, but then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers (Kobe Bryan: Biography”, 2016). Which was where he started his career and plans to end it on April 13th, 2016 and play his last game wearing that purple and gold jersey. Kobe Bryant, The Goat, has won five NBA Championships, been named two time NBA Finals MVP, two time scoring champion, three time NBA All-Star, 17 time NBA All-Star selections, 10 time defensive selection, two time Olympian gold medalist, and has broken several records throughout his career, and now is entitled to be one of the top ten players ever to play the game by the man himself, Michael Jordan who for his era was considered seen as who everyone now see’s Kobe Bryant as, the best (Jernazian, H. 2019) (Kobe Bryan: Biography”,
“Pistol” Pete Maravich is the highest scorer in College basketball history he had 3,667 points in his four year career at LSU. In the middle portion of the book it started talking about Pete’s middle school and high school basketball memories and his great achievements. The next portion of the book spoke about Pete’s college offers and his tough decision to choose which one to attend. Another part of the book really got into the life of Pete’s brother Ronnie. Finally the last part of the book I read spoke about Pete’s legendary College basketball career. After going over this portion of the book it was easy to connect with Pete’s
Dreams come and go every night, but some dreams tend to stay for a lifetime. I have always dreamt to become a professional athlete in some way or another. Growing up I have always looked up to many different athletes. Whether it was Ladanian Tomlinson on the football field or Kobe Bryant on the basketball court I have always had some athlete that I wanted to be like someday.
Michael Jordan, what comes to your mind when you hear that name? Michael had played for the bulls and had gotten 6 championship rings with the team. Well, is it just me or does that sound like a lot of time in the game of basketball? In 1982 he took a big step up from highschool to college, where he wanted to pursue the basketball dream. He went to college at North Carolina where he played NCAA basketball for just one year before he was drafted in 1984. All eyes were on him when he went on the court, because that just how good he was at the game of basketball. Michael Jordan is one of the greatest players in NBA history, maybe even the greatest of all time.
However, Rhoden fails to acknowledge that this “one-on-one” mindset on and off the field is a very real dynamic, with legitimate cause. Rhoden claims that the “one-on-one” way of being is not reflective of the black legacy, because that, according to him, has always been about teamwork. This does hold true. But a one-on-one mentality takes place in multiple contexts – on the court and off the court.
Lebron James and Kobe Bryant are two of the most explosive players in the NBA today. Each player has his own playing style that separates him from the rest of the league. Both players have their own career achievements, endorsements, and personal life stories behind the game. If you ask anybody, the comparison between these two players is great. It is a never ending debate between who is better because both players have something different to bring to the table. Side by side on paper, both players seem dominant and may one day end up in the basketball hall of fame. But as individuals, side by side, each has a different but similar life.
Now I know for most, this seems like just a very impressive basketball resume, but for others it is more. Others see those accomplishments as an embodiment of what you can accomplish in life with that same mentality. Sure, the odds of winning five titles and becoming an NBA superstar are low. However, when you carry that “Mamba Mentality”, you can accomplish great things. Think about the millions of kids and maybe even some adults that Kobe has inspired to be like him, and no matter how dark it gets, there is always a light, and if you fight and endure, great things can happen.
Kobe spent years trying to mimic everything about Michael Jordan including his footwork, shooting form etc. and it definitely payed off . Kobe has the 3rd most points scored of all time and he is the all time Lakers points leader. However, Kobe’s success is his but his influence is not, it belongs to Michael Jordan as it was Kobe who mimicked Jordan. The points scored by Kobe have an often unseen angle, Kobe also has the missed the most shots ever (Nba.com)). LeBron, on the other hand, is currently the youngest player to reach 20,000 points even though Kobe has played 6 more seasons than LeBron has out-rebounded, out-assisted, out-stole and out-blocked Kobe Bryant (nba.com). While doing so LeBron changed what constitutes all 5 positions, for example before LeBron, the point guard was the smallest player on the court who can dribble, but after LeBron’s arrival where he has dominated every position with his 6’8 280 pound frame and his incredible basketball IQ, the point guard has become the composer of the symphony that is an offensive possession in a game of basketball"LeBron James." Kobe Bryant a shooting guard for the LA Lakers and Michael Jordan a shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls, two all-star athletes that are compared more often than not for the similar NBA accomplishments and play styles. Nonetheless personality is different for both players. Michael Jordan led the Bulls three championships from 1991 to 1993 and another three from 1996 to 1998. While Kobe Bryant took the Lakers to a similar title area from 2000 to 2002. However, the two are both great basketball players who have multiple accomplishments on their resume, are also different.. The biggest difference is their personality towards the game itself, because Jordan entered the NBA from college while Bryant came straight from

In 2003, a sexual assault case was filed against Kobe, which would proceed to affect his image forever (“Bryant, Kobe” 4). Therefore, although he is an extremely talented athlete, Kobe Bryant is a negative influence to aspiring basketball players. Although this negative attention occurred during his NBA career, Bryant did, in fact, have many NBA achievements before this mishap. Firstly, at just 17 years old (“Kobe Bryant” 1), Kobe managed to become the second youngest player to enter the professional league in NBA history, being the 13th overall pick in the 1996 draft (“Bryant, Kobe” 1). In mid-1996, Kobe was traded to his current team, the NBA Lakers, where he would proceed to gain both his glory and his infamy (“Kobe Bryant” 1).
Lyndon Baines Johnson, otherwise known as LBJ, was an egotistical senator, president, and life long politician. LBJ was born in Stonewall, Texas to a family where he felt neglected for most of his childhood. That shaped LBJ into the man he was. Always in need of fellowship, LBJ found himself working hard, trying to be the best at everything. As a result, he wanted to outdo every politician America had ever seen. It did not stop there, LBJ also wanted to be known as the greatest politician in the history of the United States. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders.
