Recommended: Money as a source of happiness

Long ago, during the time of knights and dragons, there lived a king named Midas. He was considered one of the richest men on earth, but just like the many wealthy people around, money did not bring much happiness to him. Unsatisfied, he then assumed that perhaps being the richest among the rich could be the answer to his desires for a better life.

Once, our friend was sitting on his throne, contemplating the meaning of life like he always did at lonely times, when his honorable servants came rushing to him. In one of their arms carried a dwarf of an old man. Bewildered, King Midas asked with a tone of inflection in his voice, “Who is this funny-looking little man? He looks like that idiot friend of mine, Confucius!”

“Master, do not be rude!” one of the servants warned. He continued, this time whispering: “This man here is Silenus. He happens to be the friend of the great god, Bacchus!”

“Where did u find him?” Midas demanded to know. An encounter with the friend of god seemed nearly impossible.

“We found him, unconscious, under the apple tree in our garden. Apparently he had tried to reach for the fruits when your pet dog, Chap, thought he was a thief, so he went charging at Silenus, knocking the daylights out of him,” reported the servant. Silenus lay in the arms of the young man, fast asleep. Midas then ordered the servants to bring him to a guestroom and watch over him. When Silenus woke from his deep sleep, he was all dazed, unable to recall whom he was. He had lost his memory.

Midas offered the old man accommodations at his palace for as many days as he would prefer. He allowed the old man to eat as much as he wanted to. He just wanted the man to feel comfortable during his stay.

The old man grew bored easily as he had found the entertainment available at the Midas Palace was not suited for old geezers like himself. As a result, the King himself got bored at Silenus. He had attempts to make friends with the friend of God, but the old man could not recall a single thing about his friend, and he prefers spending most his time eating apples under the tree. Midas decided he had to return Silenus back to Bacchus before his life becomes a bore too.

    In class we have talked about the aftermath of reporting sexual assault. In many cases this is not an easy experience for the victims. In fact, many people are discouraged from reporting because the length of the process and because the likelihood of justice is so low. We have discussed this as it relates to college campus rapes as well as many other kinds of violence. In both cases discussed in the film, the girls were harassed and bullied online and in person. They were called liars and attention seekers. They were both called sluts and whores, while the boys received little to no negative attention. The bullying got so out of hand that Audrie took her own life. According to the film, Daisy attempted suicide multiple times as well. There was so much victim-blaming present in this film. We talked a lot about this in class, but I have never seen it first hand. While I knew that it happened a lot, I found it hard to believe that it would happen in cases like these. I wanted to believe that we as a society would support the girls going through such a horrific experience, but I was clearly wrong. In addition, both of the girls started to believe the nasty things that were being said about them online.     Ancient Egyptian artists followed very strict rules based on conceptual principles rather than the realistic views of humans. The Ancient Egyptians also relied heavily on symbolism, this is evident throughout their writing which was known as hieroglyphs (Hansen 2014). This was one of the earliest scripts that was created (Hansen 2014). This is also seen in the final judgement egyptian papyrus, Figure 1, above where the scale lies there are some hieroglyphs. The Egyptians were the first to create portraits of human beings, even though their sizes and proportions were not realistic, it was highly symbolic in this ancient movement (Hansen 2014). For example, pharaohs were often the largest figure within the artwork, whilst the things around the pharaohs may look small and out of place, this too was a symbolisation for the fact that they were in power (Hansen 2014). Additionally the Egyptians illustrated human beings in a very particular way. The feet for example were always seem in a side perspective because the Egyptians thought that they would not have been easily identified if it was viewed in a frontal position (Hansen 2014). In contrast, the eyes and shoulders however were always painted from the frontal position, whereas faces, waists and other parts were always shown in the side perspective (Hansen 2014). These strange proportions are seen within the final judgement egyptian papyrus, Figure 1, with the feet, waist and other limbs facing towards the side but the shoulders and eyes appears from the frontal view. Additionally, within the Ancient Egyptian artworks there is no depth within them because there is no horizon, vanishing points or perspective (Hansen 2014). This is once again replicated within the final judgement egyptian papyrus, Figure 1, as there is absolutely no depth within this artwork and all the colours that have been used
