King George I
King George I was born in 1660 at Osnabuuck, the eldest son of Ernest Augustus-Duke of Brunswick-Lunchburg and first Elector of Hanover. Because his father was the Elector of Hanover, George was the Electoral Price of the Empire. He was also in the imperial army, who faced battles against the Dutch, the Turks, Nine Years War, and in the War of Spanish Succession. George soon became a talented and experienced General. He went on to command in many wars. He eventually became lector of Hanover in 1698(2001 World Book Encyclopedia).
George I married Sophia Dorothea, heiress of Duchy of Brunswick and Zell, in 1682. He and his cousin Sophia had one boy and one girl before the marriage turned sour. George was a bad husband with many mistresses while Sophia had many close guy “friends.” In 1694, George divorced Sophia and accused her of adultry. Being a prominent male in Hanover, the future king of England had her put into prison for 32 years, where she died in 1726.
George I became King of England in 1714 when his distant cousin Queen Ann died. After Ann’s last surviving child had died in 1700, many people claimed that only her half brother James Francis Edward Stuart, a Roman Catholic and son of King James II, had right to succeed her. In 1701, the parliament passed an Act of Settlement that made sure no Catholic would be Monarch. The act provided that Princess Sophia, a Protestant, would succeed Ann as ruler of England unless Ann had another child. Sophia’s son George, became heir to the throne in August 1714(The Royal Heraldry of England).
King George was 54 years of age when he took the throne. He was said to be undignified without the slightest knowledge of the English language. This prevented him from taking part in cabinet councils. He never bothered to learn the language of his new kingdom, although he already knew Latin, French, and Italian. George also showed no appreciation for the English culture. Englishmen Samuel Johnson summarized his thoughts on King George by saying, “George I knew nothing and desired to know nothing; do nothing and desired to do nothing,”(Western Civilization Volume II).
Due to George’s little interaction with parliament, it further asserted itself with a new coronation of oath, requiring each monarch to swear to obey parliamentary statutes. It established a mandatory term of office for itself, gained tighter control over the budget and army, and produced a Bill of Rights that guaranteed citizens many liberties.
George Rice of Newton House, Llandeilo (1724-1779) had married the daughter of William Talbot, the 1st Earl Talbot, a rich and powerful politician in the government. Talbot was an MP, Privy Councillor and Minister of War who acted as Lord High Steward of England at the coronation of George III, even carrying the crown during the ceremony, a sure sign that he moved in the highest possible echelons of society.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 at the Bridges Creek Plantation in Wakefield Virginia. George was the eldest child out of
The author focuses on the U.S. Task Force on 21st Century Policing and Police Data Initiative or PDI to determine if it helps to restore trust and the broken relationship between and communities and police officers. The Task Force made by Barack Obama recommended the analysis of department policies, incidents of misconduct, recent stops and arrests, and demographics of the officers. The PDI has tasked 21 cities to comprehend the police behavior and find out what to do to change it. Also PDI was said to have data and information on vehicle stops and shootings by police officers. The use of statistics has a purpose to help rebuild trust and the relationship between and communities and police officers.
Elizabeth I was born in 1533 to Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Although she entertained many marriage proposals and flirted incessantly, she never married or had children.
I wonder whether or not King George III, in his life, knew that people criticized his ideas. I’m sure he did, but I wonder what he thought when he set down laws and taxes. Was he a reasonable man? Did he believe the colonists had the right to argue their points? What made him tax stamps and tea and set down the Intolerable Acts while it angered the colonists? Why did he think it was a good idea to make these laws? My question is: what did he think when he set laws and taxes that most of us now think are ridiculous? I suppose hindsight is 20/20.
The father and son relationship is one of the most important aspects through the youth of a young man. In Shakespeare’s play Henry IV, he portrays the concept of having "two fathers". King Henry is Hal’s natural father, and Falstaff is Hal’s moral father. Hal must weigh the pros and cons of each father to decide which model he will emulate. Falstaff, who is actually Hal’s close friend, attempts to pull Hal into the life of crime, but he refuses.
the King of England. George himself was of partial German ancestry. George and Charlotte had 15 children, one of whom, George IV, would be the next king. King George III sat upon the throne of England from 1760-1820. It was on his watch that the American colonies were lost in the war.
In 1732, George Washington was born on his father's plantation in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father, Augustine, was a leading planter in the area and also served as a justice of the county court. His father’s first wife died in 1729, leaving him with Augustine Jr., Lawrence, and Jane. George’s father died when he was eleven, leaving most of the property to his two half brothers. There is not much known of George Washington’s education, but it is known that he did not attend college. Most of the children in Virginia were taught at local private schools or by tutors. Boys began school at around the age of seven, learning reading, writing, and basic arithmetic. He married Martha Dandridge Custis in 1759.
Queen Elizabeth I was said to be one of the best rulers of England. Unlike rulers before her, she was a Protestant and not a Catholic. She was not stupid though. She did go to church and did everything that Catholics did to prevent getting her head cut off under the rules of her sister Mary. Elizabeth was very young when she came to rule. She was only 17 years old when her sister Mary died and she took over.
There are many things that led up to George being the longest reigning monarch. George III was born on June 4th, 1738 in London, and was the oldest son of Frederick, the Prince of Wales, and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha (George III (r. 1760-1820), 2016). As a child, George had very strong feelings, but was slow in his mental development, which led
Instead, they exacerbate the problem,” which is exactly true. One of the main reasons for homelessness is an economic crisis. During the recession of 2008 many cities saw an increase in the number of homeless individuals, with over 300,000 people being evicted (City Mayors). According to City Mayors, during the recession, of twenty-five cities being studied, nineteen of them had a rise in the numbers of homeless. The issue with sudden increases is that the cities have no way to handle the new influx of people. In 2011, the poverty rate for the United State was at 15%, meaning there were over 46 million people in poverty (National Homeless). While being in poverty does not mean that the person is going to become homeless, it greatly increases the chances of becoming homeless in the future, because any unexpected incident could push them over the edge. When people get pushed to this extreme, housing costs are often the first major things to be cut out of the budget, forcing an even greater number out onto the
The many causes of the homelessness issue has arisen from global conflict, unemployment increase, education tuition costs rising, and the increase of poverty. Homelessness is affecting all ages, ethnicities, and religions striking in both urban and rural communities. “Just last year, the national poverty rate rose to include 13.2% of the population. 1 in 7 people were at risk of suffering from hunger in the United States. In addition, 3.5 million people were forced to sleep in parks, under bridges, in shelters or cars.”
The biggest issue with homelessness is affordable housing, people have a hard time paying bills when they do not make enough money or rent/mortgage is increasing. Most people make minimum wage or an average amount that is much less than the hourly wage expected for renters/owners. “The National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that the 2013 Housing Wage is $18.79, exceeding the $14.32 hourly wage earned by the average renter by almost $4.50 an hour, and greatly exceeding wages earned by low income renter households” (National
A simple cardboard sign that read, “homeless, please help.” Behind this sign is a man standing on a traffic corner with hopefulness in his eyes. His clothes are dirty and he has not been able to shave for a long time. He looks with longing at the drivers passing by, hoping that someone will identify with the hardship that has befallen him and show compassion. One, maybe two people in the line of cars offers some money. Accepting the money, he humbly says thank you.
The most significant challenge i have ever faced is basically been here all my life even still here now. My parents and I are immigrants and I did not chose to come here but im glad im here. My parents brought me here for a reason and that is to go to school and pursue a career that i enjoy. For that reason i have a lot of pressure on my back because i have to succeed. I am definitely determined to achieve what my parents want and set a good example for my little siblings. I always think about how i am an immigrant and maybe won't be able to achieve these things because of it. Thinking how one day i could arrive home and my parents be gone without parents it would be so hard. It is always a scary thing how they could be sent back to home country
