Born on October 21, 1980, in Beverly Hills, California, Kim Kardashian West is a model, reality television star, entrepreneur and socialite. She is the second of four children born to Robert Kardashian and his first wife, Kris. Her fame began because of her father, a close friend of football star O.J. Simpson, whom Robert represented in his murder trial. The most influential part of her claim to fame would be that her famous ex boyfriend was actor Ray J, with whom she made an intercourse tape that was divulged. The public had their eye out on her, just as they did for Hester when the townspeople discovered she had a hidden affair with Reverend Dimmsdale. Kim and Hester were given unique forms of humiliation from society, who wanted to shame the women for their actions. …show more content…
Although society had intentions to break the women’s confidence, the punishments just kept adding to their fame. Not only that, but both Kim and Hester were alone throughout al the chaos dealt with. Kim received all of the negative, hateful attention while Ray-J wasn’t even affected, similar to Dimmesdale. Hester was more private though, as she wouldn’t reveal the Reverend’s name because still loved him, but mostly because he was a priest. He would have been condemned for what he did. He wore an “A” on his chest because he knew what he did was wrong. Kim later left Ray J and is currently married to Kanye West, who is not the most respected or highly praised in modern day society. Dimmesdale became a figure similar to Kanye soon after the townspeople found out he was Pearl’s father. Kim and Hester are two similar women who have been shamed by their societies because of the sins they committed, and have suffered through embarrassing
In Nathanial Hawthornes The Scarlet Letter, Hester Prynne represents the exposed sin while Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth represent the hidden sin. Hester Prynnes sin is exposed on the scaffold in front of the townspeople. For punishment she is made to wear the letter A, for adulteress, on her bosom. Hesters daughter, Pearl, is herself a symbol of the scarlet letter. Pearl is always seen with Hester just as t...
Hester and Dimmesdale both bear a scarlet letter but the way they handle it is different. Hester’s scarlet letter is a piece of clothing, the “SCARLET LETTER, so fantastically embroidered and illuminated upon her bosom” (Hawthorn 51). Dimmesdale on the other hand, has a scarlet letter carved in his chest. This is revealed when Dimmesdale was giving his revelation, in which “he tore away the ministerial band from before his breast. It was revealed!” (Hawthorn 232). Since the Scarlet Letter on Hester is visible to the public, she was criticized and looked down on. “This women has brought same upon us all, and ought to die” (Hawthorn 49) is said by a female in the market place talking about Hester. She becomes a stronger person through living this hard life. Dimmesdale instead has to live “a life of cowardly and selfish meanness, that added tenfold disgrace and ignominy to his original crime” (Loring 185). He becomes weaker and weaker by time, “neither growing wiser nor stronger, but, day after day, paler and paler, more and more abject” (Loring 186). Their courage is also weak.
The first theme expressed in The Scarlet Letter is that even well meaning deceptions and secrets can lead to destruction. Dimmesdale is a prime example of this; he meant well by concealing his secret relationship with Hester, however, keeping it bound up was deteriorating his health. Over the course of the book this fact is made to stand out by Dimmesdale’s changing appearance. Over the course of the novel Dimmesdale becomes more pale, and emaciated. Hester prevents herself from suffer the same fate. She is open about her sin but stays loyal to her lover by not telling who is the father of Pearl. Hester matures in the book; becomes a stronger character.
The members of the Puritan society view Pearl as a weird, strange little girl, born from a sinful act. However, the characters with a closer, more in depth relationship to the child, feel differently towards Pearl. “She is a strange child! I hardly comprehend her! But thou wilt love her dearly, as I do, and wilt advise me how to deal with her” (186). Hester describes her unbalanced feelings and emotions to Dimmesdale. This statement shows that although Pearl’s quirks and oddities cause her to become “strange” in the eyes of others, they form into a love from Hester. This relationship between Hester and Pearl is important because both are ostracized for their irregularities and for the sin and shame of Hester. Dimmesdale responds to Hester’s statement with, “I have long shrunk from children, because they often show distrust- a backwardness to be familiar with me.
For years’ alcohol companies have been using high profile celebrities to grab the attention of their buyers. By pairing a face that is widely known to most everyone, with a possible liqueur that most haven’t tried, it portrays to the curious buyer that the product has to be good with a famous face on the cover. Kim Kardashian is a well known television personality. She is known most for Keeping Up with The Kardashians as well as for spotlighting her lavish lifestyle. The advertisement uses her to say that Midori will help the drinker have fun, and stand out, while also portraying a feeling of success, beauty and popularity. If you drink Midori, you can be like Kim.
Throughout America’s history there have been countless influential leaders that have proudly been American. Those have held positions of politicians, soldiers, and . Kanye Omari West has opened the eyes of today's generation and still continues to shape American history. His musical influence has transformed the lives of countless people. Inspiring many to stand up and fight for what they believe in is something Kanye West continues to do even today.. Also, opening the eyes of many to racial injustice towards African American citizens. I’ll further elaborate my claim in the following paragraphs using historical evidence.
After Hester received the scarlet letter she was left to be objectified between the feelings of two men; her former husband and her lover. Her husband, Roger Chillingworth, seeked revenge for the affair that occurred between Hester and her lover Dimmesdale, while Dimmesdale seeked punishment for his sin and for leaving Hester alone to raise their child. Hester was in between both situations, but not physically involved in the feelings of these men. Like said in the earlier quote she was the vessel of the feelings around her , only objectifying her place in the community even
Throughout many years of her life, Hester was considered an outcast by the people of her town. These repercussions are felt by her daughter, Pearl, as well, because she has no friends. They don't associate with others and some instances occurred when Puritan children would throw rocks at the two. During this time, Hester refuses to make publicly known the name of her child's father. To bear the weight of her punishment all alone made her even stronger. As her life progressed, Hester became less of an outcast in the public eye. She was gifted at embroidery and was charitable to those less fortunate than she. (Although Hester was a talented seamstress, she did not make as much money as she could have because she was not allowed to sew wedding dresses. This is obviously because she had committed sins that were supposed to be confined to the sanctity of marriage.)

Hester Prynne is a tragic hero because of her perseverance and determination in her journey with Pearl. Even though she is given the opportunity to leave Boston and remove the scarlet letter that she wears on her clothes, she chooses to stay and be with the father of her child. Her choice to stay with Dimmesdale made her life much worse than it needed to be. The people who she knew started to hate her. Even the homeless people whom she made clothes for ridiculed her for her unholy acts. Even though she is ridiculed and shunned by society, she still remains positive towards the people and does only good. When told to tell the name of the father she answers, "And my child must seek a heavenly father; she shall never know an earthly one." Hester tries does her best to raise Pearl the right way. By saying that her father will seek God, she tells the people that Pearl will be religious and will never know the identity of her biological father. The citizens of Boston are terrible to Hester because of her act. Although she has the option to tell everyone who Pearl's father is to stop her suffering, she remains silent to protect the identity of Dimmesdale. She endures her punishment alone so that Dimmesdale's reputation is not tarnished with the title of "adulterer." Hester protects Dimmesdale's image and future by not telling anyone that he is the father. Hester endures punishment for both parties involved with the crime.
Adultery, which was the sin surrounding two of the main characters, Hester Prynne and Arthur Dimmesdale, was the sin in which the novel was based on. Hester committed adultery with Dimmesdale, a Puritan pastor, and had a child (Pearl) as living proof of her sin. She confessed her sin and was looked down upon by the citizens living in the town. "She would become the general symbol at which the preacher and moralist might point, and in which they might vivify and embody their images of woman's frailty and sinful passion." Basically, she was an example of what nobody should become.
Her sin was not to seek revenge, but instead was out of passion, and thus the child was born. One would think the child was punishment enough, but the way sin’s effect chose to pounce on her was from the outward judgment of the towns people. “ Clergymen paused in the street to address words of exhortation, that brought a crowd, with its mingled grin and frown, around the poor, sinful woman. If she entered a church, testing to share the Sabbath smile of the Universal Father, it was often her mishap to find herself the text of the discourse” (Chapter 5 p. 78). Since her sin was revealed to everyone, the constant judgement and actions of others continued to take their toll. The outcome of her sin therefore proved most effective in bringing her down by attacking from the outside. Not only did the townspeople outwardly scar her heart, but so did her own child. Out in the woods, Pearl was only able to identify her mother by the gloom the scarlet token had. “. . . As if there were a withering spell in the sad letter, her beauty, the warmth and richness of her womanhood, departed, like fading sunshine; and a gray shadow seemed to fall across her. . .” (Chapter 19 p.190). When Hester did not wear the letter and was back to her beautiful, happy self, Pearl would not approach her. Similar to the townspeople, Pearls connection between the sinful emblem and Hester takes a toll on the poor woman’s mind.
There are many celebrities who have another side to them which people don’t really know about. Those public figures who are misunderstood can be an example to others who admire their work. Kim Kardashian is an actress, model and fashion designer. People think she is only famous because of her amazing body and beautiful face. On the other hand, some argue the only reason she became famous was because of a famous sex tape made public on the internet with a famous rapper named Ray-J back when they were dating. In fact, it first started when her dad, Robert Kardashian, was an attorney who helped O.J Simpson when he was accused of murder. That’s when the Kardashian family first became famous. Even though people don’t see Kim Kardashian as a role model, there are a few sides to her that no one knows about.
In the events of the Scarlet Letter, more and more incidents keep occurring that unravel the love stories between the characters. Hester and Chillingworth’s paths cross as one another confides their true feelings towards each other. Hester confesses that she is on the verge of exposing Chillingworth’ true identity and that he needs to stop harming the minister while treating him. This sparks an argument between the two as they both try to blame themselves for the sins they have committed and the people they have become. The community has begun to accept Hester for her actions as she provides numerous aids for the society. As the story goes along, Pearl’s inquisitive mind begins to process her mother’s scarlet letter to the observances of how
Rev. Dimmesdale suffered through things and had nothing to ease the pain he felt inside. While Hester wore an A on her shirt, he wore an A that was carved onto his chest. The difference between Hester and Dimmesdale was that Hester had someone to comfort her while she was dealing with adultery, her daughter. dimmesdale didn't have any family members or someone that would really be there for him.
