The saying “lead by example” speaks volumes to many stages of our lives, particularly in raising children; for they do not know better- or worse. Parents influence their kids in many ways, children can inherit their parents character traits, and the ways parents talk and act can further influence their child in how they think and act in later years. “Kids will be kids” and “boys will be boys” can influence their way of thinking as well. Kids will be kids if they pour all the toothpaste in the sink or if they cut their own hair. It’s your child getting into your lipstick and putting it on the dog. That is kids will be kids. However, if you use the term “kids will be kids” to justify your child using homophobic, misogynistic, or racist slurs. …show more content…
Children are very open-minded towards some topics that adults have trouble accepting or even thinking about. Before peoples’ conflicting beliefs are thrust upon them, they are open-minded towards the sensitive topics of today- such as gay marriage- but once that influence is there, what they see or hear can impact how they look at these previously okay subjects. It can be quite biased- as they might only see or hear from their parents’ views- and closing that open mind they once possessed, in turn, it now slips through their fingers like sand. The good news? You can influence your child positively as well. My mother treated disabled children and adults with the same respect as she did with non-disabled people, my brother and I saw her do this at least once every day at the bus stop. This has gone on for as long as I can remember, and one day my brother and I did the same thing at the bus stop. Later we asked her (about a year from when I remember her first doing this, around when I was six) why she always spoke to them the same way she would others. She told us that we should always treat special needs kids the same way we would treat any other person, she said that they were no different than us so we should treat them no different. To this day and for my foreseeable future I will continue doing just that. Children’s
“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.” – James Baldwin
Fortunately, children do not need “perfect” parents. They do need mothers and fathers who will think on their feet and who will be thoughtful about what they have done. They do need parents who can be flexible, and who can use a variety of approaches to discipline.” - James L. Hymes, Jr. This quote, I can say, is physically very true.
One of the most important factors believed to influence a child are parents. Parents are known to share a distinctive bond with their children. This special bond is what enables parents to shape their children. Whether it is into free-willed adolescents, ready to challenge any controversy, or into caring adults willing to spend the seventy cents a day to save a poverty stricken child. Parents have the power to mold their children. Setting firm, yet sensible, guidelines teaches children discipline and good behavior. Using physical abuse produces aggressive children, but having patience and understanding leaves a child better capable to handle stress in later years. How parents raise their children influences how they will turn out (Begley, p. 53).
Children are our future of the world. They are the ones who will create the next generation. Therefore, it is important to start young within children, teaching them right from wrong. It is important preventing them from following the same negative patterns as kids of today. Many kids today do not really have a strong discipline, love and support at home. In general being a parent does not come easy or, with a manual on how to be a positive effective parent. There is a different factor that causes children to be disobedient or out of control. Or sometimes the parent can be doing everything right and shows much love as they can for their child. But, the child is given a negative and avoidance feedback.
Most children rarely ever listen to parents advice, and the same can be said about parents rarely ever listening to their children. An example of this is when Harlan and Hiram were arguing and Harlan said, “Well, you’re going to find out that I know some things you don’t. Greenwood’s not going to be what you
Parenting is one of the things in life where there is not a rulebook and there are a lot of beliefs on how to raise children. Parents tend to raise their children based on their childhood experiences whether they were good or bad. Some parents raise their children just like they were raised and some raise their children differently because they don’t agree with the way their parents raised them. Parenting styles are based on the ideals and beliefs parents have about raising their children. Research shows that parenting styles directly affect how children behave in and out of school. Students may be presented with
Children who are under the influence of parental guidance tend to have better behavior and can distinguish between right and wrong. “Children placed in situations lacking parental guidance are six times as likely than those with parental guidance to have a high level of overall difficulties including, emotional issues, conduct disorders, and peer problems” (McGuire 2014). Children do not have to worry about the weight of responsibility because their parents take on that responsibility for them. Kids brought up in normal, loving environments behave in a more civilized manner and exhibit better etiquette than those who are placed in negative, harsh environments such as...
Overpowering sternness leads may lead to a rebellious child, while passive parenting may lead children to inept for the challenges of adulthood. Parenting requires more than teaching children submissiveness, or building of self-importance. Children learn best from a role model who is admirable. Parenting is a great opportunity to set the course of one’s entire life in the right direction.
Each parent is different; they all have different ways in parenting and disciplining their children. One’s own parenting style is usually derived from the way one was raised or the society one lives in. Parenting styles include authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive, and it is very important to know which style one falls in because it can have an effect on how one’s child grows up to be and develops. Authoritative parenting would be the better parenting style because it is in the middle of the parenting styles; it is not at the extreme ends of the spectrum. It can be very beneficial to parents to understand that how one raises their children can give them a foundation for good development for years to come.
Raising a child with a disability may have some difficulties and challenges but it will have a lot of rewards; just as having a normal child. A parent want their child to live a normal fulfilling life as any other normal child. This life style will take extra patience, time and adaptive equipment and a special person to do it. When accepting that your child has a disability it is good to get all the literature on that type of disability. This will help you understand your child’s disability. A parent involvement is needed to find support groups, so they can get some insight on things someone from the support group has done to get certain things accomplished.
It is also proven in research that parents are extremely influential to their children in this stage of development. Their actions, beliefs, discipline, etc. are all influenced by their parent’s decisions and actions (Meyers, Dewall, 2016). In order to have a well behaved child, the parent must act respectfully and set a good example for their child. By creating a healthy environment in adolescence, children will become more
Kids with disabilities are nice young boys and girls, but they don’t always get the chance to show it. People judge them because of what they have. It could be because they can’t speak right, do a math problem like we can, or they could have a mental handicap. Children with disabilities should be treated the same as everyone else.
Children sometimes get away from their parents. Meaning, children that do not follow instructions or rules grow up to be disrespectful and have bad attitudes. Parents that do not focus on their children behavior will cause problems for them as an adult. For example, if one is not taught to speak
Children learn a lot by what they see with their own eyes. Even when parents are not trying to teach their children, they are watching to see how the parent’s actions are.
Microorganisms of innocence and a different air are born and so soon a subject of tribute to a bias life. For example, religion is predominantly introduced at a young age through upbringings and surroundings. Typically, a concept like religion is born complicated to the growing crowd, yet remains in specifics, for example, how you do not marry a man if you’re a man, "The bible forbids homosexuality, we are told. Heterosexual marriage is at the core of God's design for the universe" (Michaelson 34-70). After being introduced to the design of a superb relationship children wait for it to come, yet sometimes sexuality can easily be hinted at a young age and with that sexuality can easily be rejected as well. The younger someone is the more prone one is to the inclination of acceptance and assurance, notably from their peers.Sexuality at elementary ages is often seen as a notion of growth and discovery, but not one of reality when t...
