"I didn’t feel [stressed] until I was in my 30’s. It hurts my feelings that my daughter feels that way at eleven" (Ratnesar 313). This statement describes the intense issue facing the American Education System today. More and more students are spending a lot of out of school time on enormous amounts of homework. The overabundance of homework is putting pressure on the students, along with their parents. Our nation has steadily focused on after school studying to the point of possible exhaustion. In this paper, I will attempt to explain how educators are relying on homework as the major form of education, and how the amounts are too demanding on the students.

Elementary kids having physical problems just from homework can eventually lead to other possible problems down the road. These problems include substance abuse, becoming a high school dropout, and possibly death by suicide. So why risk a student’s life for a few homework
When you think about school one of the first things that pops into people’s mind is homework. Basically if you have asked your parents or your grandparents they would say that they remember the homework load. Now we all know that homework can be beneficial but also can be very unhealthy with all of the stress that it causes. Over the years the homework load has increased because of the fact that schools think that they need to try to keep up with other countries in academics. And will doing all of this homework now be all for nothing later? If we compare a college student to a high school student we will see the difference between them in the knowledge and life quality. For instance, now that I’m a college student I know more about many different subject than before. I took a computer science class even that it is not my major. Now I know different kind of programming languages such as python and java. Moreover, I learned how to makes online games. I’m also taking economy class which is helping me learn how to manage the available resources that I have. Sense I’m an international student I got to learn a new language and actually use that language in not only speaking, but also in writing. According to Cronon, “Educated people can appreciate not only the front page of the New York Times but also the arts section, the business section, the science section, and the editorials”(p. 3). That shows us how higher education can improve our skills in different things. college education gives a much better chance in future for students who are serious about it.Therefore, all high school students should continue their education and obtain a four year college
There have been so many studies recently that talk about how homework has started to become more burdensome for more students. The United States has gone from teaching to shoving homework in kids’ faces to keep them on the idea that school is always there. Classes have been extended from 45 minutes each day to an hour and a half. This was supposed to allow students work time at the end of classes and get help when needed. Instead, teachers lecture from beginning to end. This gives no time for students to get the help they need when can’t come in any other time. The rationale has changed in America that doing more, always means doing better. This, however, can be the downfall to anything. There can’t be homework assigned just for busy work, that becomes a waste of time. The homework needs to be assigned as a thoughtful way to engage students, so they know what is being
Somewhere in America a parent is asking their child what they learned at school today, the child will most likely say that they didn’t learn much. It is sad to say that with today’s education system, this is true. The K-12 school system has oppressed students far more than it has liberated them, and this must change if America wants to produce members of society that actually have something to contribute. Students graduate high school having learned how to play the “game” of school leaving them grossly unprepared for college. Students should leave high school with a base of knowledge and strategies they can employ to succeed in college if that is where they wish to go, but instead they come to college knowing how to line up quietly and copy
In conclusion, education crucial to becoming successful. Although, it’s not mandatory after high school. There is a large amount of knowledge that school doesn’t give you. The American High-School system has flaws, the major one being that critical awareness is not heavily emphasized. The curriculum tends to focus on simply passing and moving onto the next course. The end goal of high-school is to move onto college. The end goal of college is to get a job. With the modern and technological 21st century, the careers are no longer focusing on someone who can pass a test and move on, they want someone who can think with this sort of critical awareness because the modern century demands it.
In conclusion, homework is a waste of time. Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th grade.
The purpose of a high school education is to prepare one for college and ultimately, the workforce. By the end of freshman year, in high school, the average student has learned a sufficient amount of material in enough subjects that he or she can be considered "well-rounded" in his or her studies. This is because the rate at which material is covered in schools, across the nation, has increased dramatically compared to the past. Students now learn more advanced curriculum at a younger age, and this continues to become more evident year after year. High school has now become more focused on teaching students a small amount of information on several essential subjects, rather than having them focus deeply on the subjects they seek to pursue in their career.
Is homework beneficial or harmful to students? Is so much homework given to students that it interferes with other interests that students enjoy? Does homework intervene with family time? Homework is school work that is assigned to be done outside of the class room. Though homework is often seen as a waste of time, it can also be seen as a way to help students to develop important skills that can be used throughout their life and to be successful when they decide to join the workforce.
Dr. Michael Nagel, an associate professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast, says homework has no scientific benefit and that it could even be bad for a student’s brain. “The adult brain does not fully mature until the third decade of life (a person’s thirty’s) and too much stimulation could cause unnecessary stress on a student.” An analysis conducted by Pearson showed that the number of hours spent on homework was between ten and sixty-five hours a week, with females scoring higher on the hours of homework, stres...
Some learn in large classes, and others learn in small classes. Some thrive in mathematical studies, and others excel in language and composition studies. While each student comes into school with a different background, they are all given the right to an education. The education they receive can bring opportunity otherwise not available, and welcome normality into life.
The topic of homework has throughout the years been frowned upon, laughed at, and even downplayed leading to the question if homework is beneficial or detrimental to students worldwide. Educators have conducted studies to show that these questions are not as simple to answer, but are quite complex. There are many factors that affect student success. Even though most parents and teachers agree that some homework is essential, problematic questions remain: Does homework actually increase students ' academic achievement? How much homework is necessary?
