Catalina de Erauso experienced many different traumatic and surprising events throughout her life. The McKinney-Vento as amended by S. 896 the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act of 2009 also known as McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, signed into law in 1987, covers many aspects of homelessness. The National Coalition for the Homeless states that the “McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was the first—and remains the only—major federal legislative response to homelessness” (NCH). Originally, this act contained fifteen different programs that were included to aid the homeless population (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD], 2007). The goal of this act is help the homeless receive the services this population needs. This act also defined what is considered homeless by the United States Government. In this policy analysis, I have chosen to focus on Title VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Title VII-B addresses homeless children and their rights to equal access to an education. The goal of this Title is to meet the needs of the children who meet the definition of homeless.
Girls are told to stay indoors and play with their dolls or bake, while boys are encouraged to go outdoors, get dirty, and be adventurous. Wade and Ferree also state “sports are squarely on the masculine side of the gender binary” (Wade and Ferree, 174). Hence, we are brought up with the understanding that playing and talking about sports is a boy’s thing, which further promotes the notion that sports are a very masculine thing. Furthermore, as playing sports is competitive and is a way to show excellence, young boys are considered as “real boys” and “real men” later on. However, when boys do not talk about or play sports, they are considered feminine or “not real men.” The same rule applies for young girls. If young girls are too into sports, they are considered to be “too masculine.” This is true for me too. When I was younger, I was told to not play too much outdoors and to behave “like a girl.” The stigma that only boys should be allowed to play sports and it is not a feminine thing needs to be erased for us to welcome a more gender-equal
We began the customary after game handshake, with the goalie at the front, and coaches bringing up the rear. As we worked our way down the line, the other team’s eyes widened when they realized I had been a girl. I walked off the field to meet up with my family, who informed me I had an exceptional performance. My mom, who always tracked my progress, said I had saved sixty four percent of the shots they had took. I was extremely proud of myself,not only for the way I had played, but because I was able to show people that despite my gender, I am just as good of a goalie as any boy.

Gender in sports has been a controversial issue ever since sports were invented. In the early years, sports were played only by the men, and the women were to sit on the sidelines and watch. This was another area of life exemplifying the sexism of people in which women were not allowed to do something that men could. However, over the last century in particular, things have begun to change.

Throughout history it is clear that not only women, but both genders have faced seemingly insurmountable barriers when attempting to break into a sport that is not "proper" or stereotypical for their gender to participate in. Though as a society we are making strides towards equality in sport, such as the advent of Title IX, it is clear that we still have a long way to go. Though breakthrough policies such as this are moving in the right direction, other evidence points towards the fact that as a society, we are still more comfortable with women in traditionally female sports such as field hockey as opposed to boxing, and men in traditionally male sports such as body building as opposed to synchronized swimming, since these activities fit with our preconceived notions of what is "normal" for a specific gender. Supporting this idea is the fact that though we seem to be moving towards equality in sport with many coeducational universities and colleges having sport opportunities for both sexes, funding is still extremely unequal, as states by the Women's Sports Foundation in 2001:
During the 1960’s here in America whites and blacks were still separated, even 100 years after the american civil war. Both in public and in the home black women especially received heavy criticism from white women even as they worked for less than minimum wage. The movie The Help gives us a look at this time period by introducing us to two black females, Aibleen and Minny, that are maids for some of the local privileged white families. In particular one woman, the employer of Minny, miss Hilly is particularly unfair with her essential control over Minny. At the time blacks were still though of uncivilized and unsanitary.
