Peeta admits that he loves Katniss on the first day of school. They were both left together. In Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games, the overarching theme is that love is complicated as demonstrated by Katniss falling for Peeta, they’re both kind and strong, and work well together. Katniss was friends with Gale but she also had feelings for him too.
