Katniss Everdeen had many struggles during the Games. Hunger made everything much more difficult. “Love” led her to make decisions that helped another person survive. She found that the will to survive was leaving her. I will now talk about hunger. Katniss has never had enough to eat, the games were no exception. However, in the games, the lack of food made her very weak and easier to kill. It also caused her to lose concentration. The show that her and Peeta put on was a very big challenge. She said in the first chapter of The Hunger Games that Prim was the only person she was sure she loved. During the Games, she pretended to love Peeta. Katniss was not comfortable with keeping up an act. She constantly debated her true feelings throughout
Katniss volunteering for the hunger games to take her sister prim's place because prim is just a child in katniss’s eyes. The hunger game arena could Be identified with a maze. Peeta the other tribute for District 12 had fallen in love with Katniss before the reaping. Because of her uniqueness the crowd
Katniss volunteered because her sister’s name was randomly chosen on the day of the reaping, the day each year when one known as a tribute is chosen for the Hunger Games. Prim was the minimum age of 12 when she was picked. The author, Suzanna Collins, states “… in District 12 … the word tribute is pretty much synonymous in the word corpse” (Collins 22). Katniss wanted to spare her sister’s life. “Prim … is the only person in the world I’m certain I love” (Collins 10). In the end Katniss not only survives the Hunger Games, but helps her teammate, Peeta Mellark, survive as well. Katniss was motivated to survive because she wanted to get home. “The train begins moving and we’re plunged into night until we clear the tunnel and I take my first free breath since the reaping … I begin to think of home. Of Prim and my mother … I begin transforming back into myself. Katniss Everdeen” (Collins
The Hunger Games was a good movie when it came out. This movie refers to a dystopia world in which there are 12 districts and a capitol who rules with an iron fist, in which the districts must provide a tribute to fight in an annual Hunger Game as a punishment for a past rebellion. Katniss Everdeen is a hunter from the 12th district, which Gale, her friend gives her tips on hunting. One day her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is chosen for the Hunger Games, and in order to save her, she volunteers instead to serve in the Games along with Peeta Mellark. During a TV interview, Peeta confesses her love for Katniss Everdeen, which causes the enragement of the latter; however, she later forgives him as he explains to her that it was only to gain sponsors. During the Hunger Games, she did not receive a lot of supplies except some medicine to cure a wound, but Districts 1 and 2 almost won the Game due to their training, and amount of supplies which Katniss destroys but cannot recover any of them. The Hunger Games was one of the best movies I ever watched because it has a little bit of everything and it captures the real-life survival game that we live on a daily basis.
Katniss is the main character in the novel, The Hunger Games. The author of this book is Suzanna Collins. Katniss is a 16 year old who has been chosen with 23 other tributes. In my class we have studied themes and key ideas such as Power of the Capitol, Competition against other tributes and Sacrifice for what Katniss acts and does in the Hunger Games. There are many themes but I have chosen these 3 because they show the most emotions and power.
...nt, Katniss decides not to play by the rules anymore and she splits a handful of poison berries with Peeta. She decides that she is not going to let the “Gods” manipulate the game anymore. Right before they eat the berries the leader’s voice comes overhead and tells them that they have both one. The reason he decides to do this is because the crowd would be incredibly disappointed if the “show” ended this way. This is Katniss’ true show of courage, to defy the leaders/Gods and make her own ending. It can be said that this was Katniss’ destiny or fate: that she was meant to win the Hunger Games.
Katniss does many things others will not do in her situation. Whether it is helping her family or helping others. Katniss’ father died in a mining accident when she was eleven (5). Katniss’s mother did not handle it well. She stopped caring for her family. She became a zombie. Katniss had to start caring for her family (26, 27). One day Katniss figured it all out. Katniss thought, “The first dandelion of the year. A bell went off in my head. I thought of the hours spent in the woods with my father and I knew how we were going to survive” (32). This is when Katniss realizes her family would no longer starve. Katniss knew hunting in district 12 is illegal and the penalty could be death (5). Katniss risks her life. Katniss’s only concern is her family, no matter the danger.
First of all, Katniss Everdeen was a normal 16 year old girl before the Reaping Day. That day, however, changed everything. Since her sister was chosen as tribute, Katniss volunteered to take her place, even though there was very low chance for her to win the game. Katniss knew Prim would be going to die because in the other districts, kids spent their entire lives training to win the Hunger Games and volunteering for the tribute compared to Prim, who was really weak and it was her first Reaping Day, Katniss went out for her.
Katniss Everdeen is a young girl that lives in district 12 of the country panem with her mother and sister Prim. She is a really good hunter and supplies her family with food from her hunts. Every year the capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games which requires two tributes, A boy and a girl. Two tributes are taken from each of the 12 districts and the two from district 12 are Katniss’s little sister and a boy named Peeta. Katniss doesn’t want her little sister to go so she volunteers to take her little sister’s place. The hunger game is an event where tributes from each district fight to they’re death until one opponent is left.
While reading the novel, “The Hunger Games”, written by Suzanne Collins, one could see without difficulty that a running theme flows through the writing. This theme being perseverance, the one thing that had allowed Katniss Everdeen, the main character that a reader follows during the events presented in the narrative, to live on and be crowned victor with her teammate, Peeta, a young man who ventures into the Hunger Games with Katniss. The theme of perseverance appears frequently as it is tied to every trait and skill of Katniss which includes the idea that she is persistent, caring, and resourceful when it comes to surviving in severe conditions similar to the Games. Every thought she has and every action that she performs drives her to
Katniss Everdeen is one of the best heroes in modern mythology. “Katniss Everdeen. She is the hero we need.” (Kim, Daniel J). Katniss isn’t like other heroes in modern mythology. Heroes today are characterized by their aggression and dominance but not Katniss. Katniss is strong when she has to be, but deep inside she is truly scared. Joseph Cambell’s 17 stages monomyth is able to map out a hero’s journey and express the steps taken to become a hero. Katniss is a highly qualified hero and accomplishes several stages in becoming the true hero she is. She is loyal, but unsure of whether it is egocentric or selflessness. All heroes have self doubts during their journeys. Katniss is a hero because of her ability to love. She incorporates love while trying to fight for her life and the lives of others back home during her time in the arena. Suzanne Collins expresses that love is an important part of life: “Love *now*. While you can.”. The way Katniss is able to feel compassion and for her to have hope is what truly makes her a hero.
Since she is the female victor from district 12, she is in the 74th Hunger Games. She sees how painful and scary it is and so she tries to stop the capital which is who is controlling everything. She doesn’t want that to happen to anyone else. She rebels against President Snow in plan of eventually killing him to take over the capital and change the world. Teens can relate to this because a lot of the time we feel controlled. It might be by a parent, teacher, grandparent or someone else but all of us are controlled by someone. A lot of teenagers end up rebelling because they feel as if they have no choices. They go against the rules of who they are rebelling against. That persons rules and values are not necessarily right. Who decides what is right? It seems as if we have entered into a state time where there is no right and wrong. Katniss breaks free of that control and does her own thing. Another way teens can relate to the hunger games is through the love triangle. Some of us might have a similar situation of where we might like two people. In the movie it says, “What I need is not Gales fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can
Haymitch contributed immensely to Katniss’ survival in the games by getting her wealthy sponsors, to send and provide what she needed, like food or medicine, during the games. “You have good sponsors she says longingly” (201).” Without Haymitch’s hard work and effort to get Katniss good sponsors, the gifts would not have been as helpful, or even sent to her, and Katniss would not have made it to where she did in the games. Another example of Katniss depending on Haymitch was how Haymitch sent messages to Katniss in the games. Haymitch sent vague, almost coded, messages to Katniss, and Katniss used her prior knowledge of Haymitch to understand what he was trying to say. “Maybe he is sending me a message. Then I know, there is only one reason Haymitch is withholding water from me. Because he knows I’ve almost found it” (169).This means that, from her time being mentored by Haymitch, Katniss was able to understand why Haymitch gave her a canteen but no water. Katniss’ dependence on Haymitch worked well for her during the games because she was able to keep her mind thinking and alert, and was able to get resources that she needed. Without being able to think like Haymitch, Katniss would have failed at surviving during the games, because she wouldn’t have been able to understand the hints and find necessary
She helped keep herself alive with the help of Rue and Peeta inside of the games, and Cinna for making a name for her, letting her get more famous with sponsors. She would have probably never have survived the Hunger Games without their help. She fought to save and return to her sister who was waiting home. Survival is a very important theme in The Hunger Games. Katniss lived through the Games, but not without flaws. She ended up losing hearing in one of her ears, but it was a small price to pay for being one of the only surviving District 12 tribute, besides Haymitch, her mentor, and Peeta, who survives with her. Her survival story is incredible and
Katniss promises Prim she will try very hard to win the games. (36) This is quite impressive because earlier on in the book Katniss noted there are tributes from some of the wealthier districts, who have been training all their lives for the Hunger Games. Therefore, making them much stronger and harder to beat. So, this means, even though Katniss knew she likely would not win, she still had the
“A kind Peeta Mellark is far more dangerous to me than an unkind one. Kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there,” (page 49). This proves that kind people have a way of rooting for her. Another important trait is that she is a survivor. She knows the way to get food to survive in any condition, like in the Hunger Games where she had to find food in the huge jungle while she was being hunted by other tributes.
