Katherine Knight's Incident Case Study

The Incident
Katherine Knight and John Price were dating at the time when she killed him. The couple had been arguing over marriage and infidelity. On February 29, 2000, Katherine stabbed her partner 37 times all over his body. She tried to cover her crime by taking pills so she would overdose. Her plan of taking pills did not work so she went to her second attempt of hiding the evidence which was cooking him and feeding him to his children. At first she skinned him and hung his skin on a meat hook. After the meal was done cooking she set up the table with each of his children’s name next to their own plate. Later on, she attempted to make another meal that was thrown out in the lawn for strange reasons. In the end she stated she had no memory

of the crime she committed.
Family Background
Her family was from a town of Aberdeen.

Katherine’s mother, Barbara, had an affair with Ken Knight, which made them have to move to Moree splitting up the family. Barbara’s ex-husband Jack kept two of their kids and the other two went to live with an aunt. On October 24, 1955, Katherine and her twin Joy were born. Ken was an alcoholic that threatened to rape Barbara at least 10 times a day and also used violence to do this. Barbara would talk to the twins about her intimate life and how she disliked men and sex. Katherine also stated along with other family members that she was sexually

abused.
Personal History
Katherine seemed like a normal girl, but whenever she would get upset she would have murderous rages.

Classmates even said that Katherine was a loner that bullied to the smaller kids at school. She attended Muswellbrook high school up to the age of 15 and dropped out. During her years in school, she assaulted one boy and got injured by a teacher that said to be using self-defense. On the other side when she was not in rage she was seen as a model student and received rewards for her good behavior. She never learned how to read and write in school, but she still managed to gain a job as a cutter in a clothing factory. Several months after this job she went to her dream job at an abattoir where she ended owning her own butcher knives. When at home she would hang knives all around her bed in case they were ever needed, she continued to do this until she was put in

jail.
Katherine had three relationships prior to her relationship with Price. David Kellett was her first husband. He left her for another woman and because of her violent behavior. Her next relationship happened months after with a guy named David Saunders. He left after she threw an iron on his face and stabbing him with scissors. When Kellett returned to see the daughter he had with Katherine he found out she put a violence order against him. Her third relationship was with John Chillingworth. This relationship didn’t last long because she left him for John Price, the guy she murdered.
Social Environment
On March 6, 2000, Katherine was charged with the murder of her ex-partner John Price. Initially, she entered the trial with the plea of not guilty but after her attorney communicated with the judge Katherine pleaded guilty in the trial of October 2001 making the case dismissed. She was perfectly sane when committing the crime according to the psychiatrist. Katherine Knight was set to life in prison without any possibility of parole on November 8. Up until this day she continues to say that she recalls nothing of the murder of her ex-partner John Price. Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre is the place where she is detained today.
