Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels joined together to write the Communist Manifesto first published in 1848. The document states that communists should express their ideas. There is and will always be two sides who oppose each other. The classes in society, bourgeois and proletariat, are being established as new classes because there are currently new struggles and more separation. The bourgeois have created cities and benefited the wealthy with inventions of machinery and enclosing land. Today, the bourgeois struggle to control their power because it’s out of their hands. Labors still out number the wealthy throughout the countryside. This could eventually create a problem considering they are developing industry and growing in strength
and power. Industry connects and brings together the proletarians class to help them grow, while the bourgeois sit and watch what they have created, eventually destroy them. The Communists want to use this method of power change to their advantage. Once the bourgeois become weak, the communists will overthrow the government. The proletarians will agree with the communists because they want a change in social and political order just as much as they do. They are the under privileged working class and have nothing to lose, so join together to achieve a common goal. During this time period many promoted violent overthrows of the existing governments in their writing. Another German communist during this time period, Friedrich Engels, published The Condition of the Working Class in England. It targeted the capitalists and accused them of many crimes including mass exploitation and murder. Karl Marx, four years later, wrote this document urging working men to revolt. According to both men, class struggles have always been rich verses the poor and whichever class controlled the economy, controlled everything else that came along with it. For example, politics and religion. At this time, workers in factories and urban settings became more common and the exploited class was pushed together, foreshadowing the bourgeois downfall. During this time, people like Marx and Engels were bringing new ideas to the table that the working class had only dreamed of. Overthrowing their corrupt government, who controlled every part of their economy, seemed possible. They planted the seeds of hope, while firing up the proletariats with their writings. The Communist Manifesto fueled the courage to revolt by reminding the proletariats all that the bourgeoisie had done and how now it was a time for change.

Along with rhetorical appeals, Wiesel also uses many rhetorical devices such as parallelism and anaphora. Wiesel depicts parallelism when he says, “to fight fascism, to fight dictatorship, to fight Hitler” (Wiesel lines 103-104). The parallelism and anaphora, in the quote, provide emphasis on the discrimination and abuse that has taken place around the world. Repeating the same initial phrase shows the significance of the words Wiesel is speaking. Wiesel mentions the victims of this extreme tragedy when he states,” for the children in the world, for the homeless for the victims of injustice, the victims of destiny and society.” (Wiesel lines 17-19). This use of anaphora and parallelism emphasize the amount of people the Holocaust has affected and impacted. The parallelism being used adds value to his opinions and balances the list of people Wiesel is making in his speech.
In The Communist Manifesto written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the two German philosophers saw history as the struggle between the working class and the Bourgeois, or middle class (textbook 708). The Communist Manifesto was written in 1848, during the peak of the Industrial Revolution, a time when the Bourgeois made huge profits in manufacturing at the expense of the working class. According to Marx and Engels, the fruits of the Industrial Revolution created a new class of the oppressed modern working class, the Proletariat, which had never before existed because it was neither like serfdom or slave hood in that it was dependent on the Bourgeois to hire them for wage labor. This was the class the two philosophers envisioned would set off a revolution that would overthrow capitalism to end the perpetual class struggle and create a fair society known as Communism.
I chose this word because the tone of the first chapter seems rather dark. We hear stories of the hopes with which the Puritans arrived in the new world; however, these hopes quickly turned dark because the Purtains found that the first buildings they needed to create were a prison, which alludes to the sins they committed; and a cemetery, which contradicts the new life they hoped to create for themselves.
In 1729, Jonathan Swift published a pamphlet called “A Modest Proposal”. It is a satirical piece that described a radical and humorous proposal to a very serious problem. The problem Swift was attacking was the poverty and state of destitution that Ireland was in at the time. Swift wanted to bring attention to the seriousness of the problem and does so by satirically proposing to eat the babies of poor families in order to rid Ireland of poverty. Clearly, this proposal is not to be taken seriously, but merely to prompt others to work to better the state of the nation. Swift hoped to reach not only the people of Ireland who he was calling to action, but the British, who were oppressing the poor. He writes with contempt for those who are oppressing the Irish and also dissatisfaction with the people in Ireland themselves to be oppressed.
Marxism is a method of analysis based around the concepts developed by the two German philosophers Karl Marx and Fredrich Engel, centered around the complexities of social-relations and a class-based society. Together, they collaborated their theories to produce such works as The German Ideology (1846) and The Communist Manifesto (1848), and developed the terms ‘’proletariat’ and ’bourgeois’ to describe the working-class and the wealthy, segmenting the difference between their respective social classes. As a result of the apparent differences, Marxism states that proletariats and bourgeoisie are in constant class struggle, working against each other to amount in a gain for themselves.

According to Marx there are two different types of social classes: the bourgeoisies and the proletarians. In the Communist Manifesto it is very clear that Marx is concerned with the organization of society. He sees that the majority individuals in society, the proletariat, live in sub-standard living conditions while the minority of society, the bourgeoisie, have all that life has to offer. However, his most acute observation was that the bourgeoisie control the means of production that separate the two classes (Marx #11 p. 250). Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels’ The Communist Manifesto explores class struggles and their resulting revolutions. They first present their theory of class struggle by explaining that “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles” (Marx 14), meaning that history is a repeated class struggle that only ends with a revolution.
