Kansas Governor Sam Brownback is a gambler whose risky decisions have impacted Kansans the last few years. No matter how bad the state of Kansas gets even in its roughest time Governor Brownback believes his plan will succeed. Brownback should not be re-elected as governor of Kansas because of his risky decisions on budgets and spending, Education, and individuals rights. If Governor Brownback’s plan is not stopped it could send Kansas into one of its greatest recessions. Brownback’s Tax cuts have not only caused a large climb in unemployment they have also drained the kansas treasury. “A new report Friday showed that Kansas had lost a whopping 4,300 jobs in July from a month earlier.” (Atkins). “Brownback plans to cut nearly $45 million in funding for public schools and higher education in his state by March.”(Richinick). Many Kansas schools already have trouble funding all of their activities and curriculum for their students and with these budget cuts being as large as they are it makes it nearly impossible for some schools to provide a proper education to their students. With these large cuts to education sacrifices must be made and in some cases this means schools must be closed. “Chris Hayes reports on Marquette, a small Kansas town that just lost its last elementary school due to Gov. As of June 2014 a small town in Kansas called Marquette lost its last school due to Brownback’s cuts leaving many kids out of luck without an opportunity to get the education they deserve. “Gov. Brownback’s stance on social issues is a reflection of the depth of religious values held by him”(Helling). Almost every politician has a very strong religious background and many times this is a good thing but sometimes it may do more harm than help. After his 2014 reelection Brownback signed an order removing all special protection from homsexual and transgender employees that was recently in place. Equality Kansas Executive Director Thomas Witt said "Discrimination against State of Kansas employees, in every state agency, is now permitted under Brownback’s order."(Siggins). Equality in the workplace is something that is very important to many employees today and it is very important that everyone has the same rights but many times it is not possible for some to get the same right as others because they have a different sexual orientation. It is very important that we have special protection in place because without it many people may lose their job simply because their employer has certain religious views and no longer feels they want to employ someone anymore because of their sexual orientation.
