I chose a clip from KTXS News. The news clip was titled: Back-to-school an anxious, stressful time for children with special needs. If I had watched this video with no previous knowledge of students with disabilities, the news clip would have taught me that students with Autism need special attention, routine, have sensory aversions, and that life is challenging. This information is not false, however, it is not true for every child who presents with Autism. The video depicts students with Autism as having lots of struggles. The first thing they mention in the clip is the child’s name, the school he attends, and 3 things that he is not able to do as a result of his disability. There are no doubt struggles for families of children with disabilities,
but there are so many things that children with Autism are able to do, and none of those were mentioned. I believe the message was intended to be positive and to get parents ready for transitioning their children into the school setting, as it may be difficult for their child if they have disabilities. The video concludes with saying that parents should be positive, have communication, and start routines now, so the children know what to expect once school starts. Though they had good intentions, I felt that the news clip unknowingly displays children who are Autistic in a negative light. A school counselor in the video talks about how difficult life is for families of children with special needs. She states, “We treat those kiddos (referring to students with disabilities) like they’re one of us, like they’re not different.” The way it is stated makes it sound like children with disabilities are completely different from children without. Consequently, by focusing on the child’s disabilities rather than his abilities and by saying that we should treat him like he is not different, she is implying that he is altogether different from other students in his class. Students with disabilities should not be labeled as “different.” The complexity of needs may vary from child to child, but all children in the classroom have needs.
F.A.T. City is a workshop held by Richard Lavoie, an expert on learning disabilities, that let’s an audience experience the frustration, anxiety, and tension children with learning disabilities deal with every day. In this video, Mr. Lavoie does several activities with the audience to let them experience what it’s like to be a child with a learning disability in the classroom.
I chose the movie clip entitled “King Kong”. It’s from the movie “Training Day” starring Denzel Washington. Training Day is a movie that follows a corrupted detective’s day to day mischief as he schools a rookie cop. Training Day depicts a product of the matchup between screenwriter David Ayer, who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, and director Antoine Fuqua, who grew up on the rough side of Pittsburgh. Both Ayer and Fuqua are highly familiar with the highly intensified relationship between police and criminals.
The video was about Adam Lanza and the horrific shooting that he committed. The video started off by talking about how he killed his mother before the event occurred, and how they were interesting in the relationship between them. One statement from the videos stood out and it was asking if she was a victim or the cause. Personally I feel horrified about what happened and I have no feelings for the shooter what so ever or not; regardless of mental illness or not he deserves what happened. I found it interesting that from a young age he was already in an independent educational program (I.E.P), on thing that stood out was how successful his father was. Another thing I found to be interesting is that moving to the new school he made a lot of friends, and enjoyed being in plays. However, I could see that a breaking or stressed might have been when the father moved out before the divorce.
By using a video as a medium, peers should be able to easily relate to the commercial. Beats, a popular headphone company, is known by many people, especially around the highschool age group. Also, being a company that has to do with technology, it is suitable to use a video as a medium. Finally, by using a video as a medium, viewers are able to see and hear what is going on, almost experiencing what the Beats headphones are able to do.
I feel that the video "When Families Grieve" does an excellent job explaining to younger children about what death is and how to deal with the loss of someone very dear to them. I feel that this would be an appropriate tool for children of ages 3 years and older because at the age of 3 is when babies start getting a cognitive sense and start questioning everything. Elmo explains death in a way that children can relate to compared if they were to watch a video of a professor explaining death. If I had children, I would show them this video so that they can have an understanding of what death is. That once a person is dead, they will no longer see them again. They will learn the concept of death in a level that they will be able to understand
Beginnings Kardashian was born on 21st of October 1980 into a wealthy eight member family in America and went to school with Paris Hilton whom she remained friends. In 1991 her mother Kris Kardashian married the Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner and her father Robert Kardashian became prominent in headlines for defending OJ Simpson in the famous murder case of 1994. At the age of 19 she began her first business endeavor of arranging and organizing celebrities wardrobes, cleaning them out and selling the unwanted garments on Ebay. She became popular RNB singer Brandy’s stylist and also worked for Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton. In July 2006, after working in the fashion industry as a personal shopper and stylist for stars, Kardashian opened
In the “60-Minute video” watched in class, there was a study that focused on a questionnaire for a selected group of people of 1981 living in Laguna World Retirement home in California. Researchers wanted to see who (from the retirement home) were still living and how they were still living. The primary focus of the study was people aged 90 years and older. During the study, the results indicate that although genes contribute to longevity, they are not everything. They found that smokers died earlier than their non smokers peers. They also found out that people who exercised as little as 15 minutes a day (45 minutes) outlived those who did not exercise; even exercise as long as 3 hours didn't beat 45 minutes. For every hour spent doing activities
In tutorial #4, we explored the different types of population around the globe and how each population is affected by its own culture in the video, World in the Balance – The Paradox People. The video examined the human population of India, Japan, United States and Africa. In particular, the continued and rapid aging population of Japan was highlighted, and the video emphasized the consequences of Japan’s future for each age group. Through this video, I recognized the impact of a growing population and could reflect on how it would impact my own actions for the future. It was mentioned in the video, that Japan has been in a recession since the 1989-1990s and with the rapid aging population in the older age groups, it has made it harder for the working class to make a stable income to
The theme of this movie is that living was hard during the time of the Great Leap Forward and especially during the Cultural Revolution. The title shows an accurate representation of the theme because all the characters of To Live, pushed through and struggled to live. They all lived in fear. Fear is the main theme in this story. Fear controlled the actions of the characters and made the plot of the movie.
1.INTRODUCTION 1.1Background: For Making safe spaces cultural capability is very important necessity for making safe spaces . According to Queensland Government(2015) “Cultural capability refers to the skills, knowledge, behaviours and systems that are required to plan, support, improve and deliver services in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner”. In any environmental setting, if people behave in a positive ways then everyone feel that place is safe space.
The following portrayals I have elaborated and provided examples for negatively affect disabled individuals
My critical response paper will be on the video “Dear daddy”. This video was based on the violence projected onto women throughout their lifetime. The five minute video clip is filmed from the perspective of an unborn girl as she faces difficulties being born a female. The video is targeted towards fathers and would-be fathers everywhere, urging them to help protect their daughters by showing zero tolerance to rape and rape culture. This narrated film lists all of the horrific experiences the daughters of many may face throughout their life at the hands of men.
Throughout the video we met a number of people with disabilities. They all had their own story to share, with little or nothing in common. The only thing that they had in common was the way they saw themselves. Some of them while they were growing up did not see themselves any differently than the other children until they got older. Others became disabled when they were older, so it was hard for them to see themselves as disabled.
Giving the “normal” people a sense of high worth next to this group. People with physical disability have been impaired but are percieved in a negative way in society. From gaining a sense of independency, the “normal” people feel as if it is their duty to help that person because he or she can do it differently, just not in the way that is viewed “normal”. By doing so, the person has placed the person who is “handicapped” as being unable to do an activity and dependent. As well as children in school with a disability, there educators feel as if they are not capable of keeping up with their peers although they are not mentally impaired.
As a child it was hard for me to except the fact that I had a learning disability, so I chose not to believe it. Being categorized as a quote, “special student” pushed me to try harder and perform better in school. I wanted prove to everyone that I didn’t have a learning disability and that I didn’t need any special treatment to help me. I was put in resources classes all the way up until High School to help improve my reading and writing. I would be pulled out of my regular class to go to a different class with other students that also had learning disabilities.
