For more than 40 years, the KTU name has been the “beat of New York,” offering the freshest dance music and staying on top of the curve with new artists. First hitting the airwaves in 1975 at the 92.3 FM signal, it rose to the number one station in the market in the span of 10 years. After moving to the 103.5 signal, where it stays to this day, it immediately became number one again, something no other station has ever done outright. Number Six: There Was No KTU from 1985 to 1996 From 1975 until 1985, the station could be found at 92.3 on the dial. The relationship with the station was short lived, however. In 2007, the show was cancelled due to Goldberg’s commitment to “The View” and the poor reception the show had. Cubby ended up taking over the morning show and is still there to this day. Number Three: The First Era Ended Right Before ‘Live Aid’ KTU signed off of 92.3 FM on July 13, 1985, the same day as the global Live Aid concerts. Playing their final song, Tina Turner’s “Let’s Stay Together,” just before midnight, it was followed by a station tag and K-Rock’s first song, “Long Live Rock” by The Who. It was a soft launch, however, since later in the day they interrupted programing for the live broadcast of the Live Aid concerts. Number Two: They Are Responsible for the Popularity of the ‘Macarena’ In 1996, a dance sensation swept the nation and it was called “The Macarena.” Though the original, all Spanish version of the Los Del Rio song was a hit in Latin America, it wasn’t added to the U.S. airwaves until it was remixed with English lyrics. KTU’s rotation of the Bayside Boys Mix of the single drove the song to massive popularity and a long life at Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties for the rest of
Windsor’s station, CKOK first came onto the air in 1932 and it was a station that played more “friendly and folksy” music. In 1933 the call letters were changed to CKLW and in 1941, it moved to its current position of AM800 . Throughout the years, television was drastically changing and was creating fierce competition with the radio industry. To be able to keep up with the times, CKLW had to change to stay in the game. One modification was the change of ownership. In 1963, RKO took over the station and CKLW became CKLW- The Big 8 and they focused on playing contemporary hits and rock and roll music, as we...
In the 1960’s news reports became mandatory to all radio programming. For most radio stations in the 60’s and even today when the news comes on, people usually change the station. The exception to the rule was CKLW. Their 20/20 news report would happen twenty minutes before the hour and twenty minutes after the hour. This was very different format; CKLW is credited for changing radio broadcasting of news forever with this particular format. When all other stations were reporting the news at the top of the hour, CKLW was still playing rock and roll music.
Today's music scene is slowly growing, and differentiating in styles. One of the newest styles of music that has broken out is a generally unrecognized genre of music called "Geek Rock." By taking the meaningful lyrics of Emo, the heavy guitar riffs of Grunge, and the do-it-yourself attitude of Indie rock, this genre forms a new-wave approach to music. Many new artists have been categorized under this label, including Ben Kweller, Ozma, and Rooney. Rivers Cuomo, front man and lyricist of Weezer, is predominantly responsible for this underground rock movement. By transferring his life experiences into a musical statement, Rivers Cuomo has the ability to appeal to his fans on a new level.

The program hidden Ingredient to a phenomenon success has shown not only long Jeopardy after their Predecessor, yet, it built a reflected type of look at differing identity, lifestyle and fashion, as the instrument demand viewer to stop and pay attention to a different music arrangement this program has, and now in comparison to “American Bandstand,” it would out due its competitor in our home and on a network station. However, this would remind us that dreams and hard work do pay off for the professions. Don Cornelius, (Soul Train) found its way in our homes, and the show serenaded Americans. Yet, the ideal held many glued to the TV and has similarity to the Dick Clark, (American Bandstand), but has a difference in target technique approach
For my final performance in Basics of Singing, I will be performing the song “Ireland” from Legally Blonde the Musical. This musical first opened February 2nd, 2007 at the Palace Theatre in New York City. Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin brought Amanda Brown’s novel and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture to a new life of song and dance. “Ireland” is a piece that presents a different side to a character, Paulette, that is not seen or noted in the film nor the book. This different side of Paulette is the reason I chose the song.

Released in 1997, Buena Vista Social Club immediately became an international success and won a Grammy Award in 1998. Around the world, especially in U.S. where the album was welcomed most heartily, Ry Cooder was considered the hero of Cuban music (Hernandez 65). Being the producer of the album, Cooder was assumed to discover a “lost treasure” in Cuban culture. However, Tanya Kateri Hernandez, in an article about Buena Vista Social Club, revealed that Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, not Cooder, was the person “who masterminded and facilitated the collaboration.” (Hernandez 62). Also in this article, it is noted that Juan de Marcos Gonzalez “implicitly acquiesced to Cooder’s propagation of the colonial myth for the purpose of ensuring the commercial success of the collaboration.” (Hernandez 64). Other musicians in the Buena Vista Social Club ensemble followed Gonzalez’s step, as there was hardly another choice for them.

The 1920's brought many advancements in technology which allowed Americans to entertain themselves at home; the radio was one of them. After the Prohibition ended, and radio broadcasting was being brought back to life, many people started up their first stations, like Frank Conrad (Events 72). Michigan Radio moved their headquarters in 2003 to the historic Argus Building, located on West William Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In the last decade Michigan Radio has begun to broadcast in high definition and, in 2008, introduced Michigan Mobile Radio.
