Given a scenario of John Black, a sixteen years old boy that was raised by a single mom. John has successfully completed his four years of five years disposition for his offense of firearm possession while on school property. He is now ready to go back to his family and be part of the community. In this paper, I will discuss about how our juvenile justice system can use John as a success case with first time offenders, I will also discuss about the future of the juvenile justice system and the international efforts being made. During his times of disposition, John has gone through several treatment programs including anger management classes, substance abuse treatment and a gang deactivation program. After the completion of the programs, it seemed that John has turned his life around for the better and he is now eager to be part of the community. John has also decided that he wants to get involved and work with some of the first time offenders in order to prevent them from making the same mistakes that he did. John’s experiences with crime and the experiences during his probations are very valuable; his ability to turn his life around could also be used to educate those who are in the same situations as he was. Next, I would like to discuss how the juvenile justice system can use John as a success case with the first time offenders. In conclusion, I have covered the three major points of John Black and his success story with the juvenile justice system, the future of juvenile justice system and the international efforts being made in regards to juvenile justice. Juvenile delinquent will continue to be the problem of the society. Predictably it may become worse with our current situations. After everything that I have learned from this course, I strongly believe that proper parenting is the key to solve this problem; proper parenting should never be neglected because it is a first line of defense when it comes to the efforts of preventing juvenile delinquent.
