The movie Blind Side was based on the best-selling book The Blind Side by Michael Lewis. In this story the main character Michael Oher is a troubled child that is taken in by an upper class family and is put through school. During the course of this story you can see how many of the Juvenile Delinquency theories that we reviewed in class can be applied and seen, it also shows that some theories can be proven wrong based on the circumstances.
One of the Juvenile Delinquency theories that could have changed this whole story is one of Development theories’ sub theories, Life-course theory. “Life-course theory focuses on change in criminality over the life course of a person”. (Siegel, and Welch xx) In the movie The Blind Side Michael Oher’s biological mother Denise Oher tells her story to Michael’s new adopted mother. She tells her that she kept Michael from seeing all of the bad things she was doing and the drugs by telling him to simply close his eyes.
By doing this she prevented Michael from being exposed to the criminal acts she was committing at such a young age. If he had been exposed to these actions he might have become a totally different person. He might have followed in her foot steps and lead a life of crime because that what his mother did. “As young as toddler’s people begin relationships and behaviors that will determine their life course”. (Siegel, and Welch xx) Even if Michael’s mother did not cover his eyes and he did witness all of the things she was doing Leigh Anne Tuohy played by Sandra Bullock might still have been able to direct his path, it would have probably been a more difficult though I imagine.
Michael’s mothers’ acts of covering his eyes could also be applied to the Behavioral Theory as well. ...

This demonstrates to us that no matter how much your legal or moral laws are violated, what matters is how you as an individual react to the situation, justly or unjustly. This movie is centered around the notion that if you are a person of ethnic background, that alone is reason for others to forsake your rights, although in the long run justice will prevail
The study of Juvenile delinquency and the theories pertaining to it are vital for several reasons. In order to more effectively engage with youths and foster positive behavior and schemas, the individuals must first be understood. The study of theory provides a means of understanding adolescents and the factors that lead to or detract from delinquent behavior. In the case of juvenile delinquent, Jordan Brown, theory helps to provide insight into why an eleven-year-old boy murdered his stepmother.

This is where he fell in love with the game of football and he knows that to play in the pro league, he had to improve his education. He received educational support and it was critical since he did not develop education prior to living the the Tuohy’s. Moreover, when having a conversation with Leigh Anne Tuohy, his adopted mother, about his football decision, she replies: “It’s your life, Michael, it’s your life” (Hancock, Netter, Smith,..., 2010). Michael comes to the understanding that his identity as a Tuohy, a black male, and a football player, does not have to come with any pressures or expectations (Kim, 2017). He realizes that he is able to decide for himself who he wants to be, and chooses to attend University of Mississippi and accept his football scholarship . This is essential on his development because his choice to focus on athletics, improve his GPA, and choosing a school to attend and play football allows Michael to develop a sense of identity and
Juvenile delinquency is the participation of illegal behavior by minors. Usually crimes committed by a child under the age of 18. The young people who usually live in difficult circumstances are the ones who are at risk of becoming “delinquents.” Juvenile delinquency is becoming more complicated and universal. This is a local problem happening in our cities today. It is easy for people to view “juvenile delinquents” as thugs or criminals. The reality is many of these so called “delinquents” has either been abused, lack proper supervision and support, or have been untreated fairly in schools.
I know someone who at a young age did not understand the consequences of his actions. He was your typical delinquent, he came from a middle-class family, he was not doing so good in school, he did not have that parental support. He got mixed in with the wrong crowed started burglarizing, missing school, never stayed home, substance abuse, ect. He was having the time of his life in and out of the juvenile justice system. It was not until he was caught in a stolen vehicle with his buddy who "snitched" on him to get a smaller sentence. He thought this time was like the rest, and "no big deal." He got a wake-up call when the judge saw his prior records and sentenced him 10 do 5 in Costal Prison. He was 17 years old at the time of his sentencing, basically his whole life. He was released on good behavior in just 2 years. I believe that this was his rehabilitation wake-up call. He became better, he stopped stealing, he stopped drugs, he found different friends, he was finally turning his life around. This is what the juvenile justice system wants, they want the juvenile to become well aware. They want the juvenile to become better, and not want to delinquent again. His prior actions costed him two years of his life. However, like some juveniles that enter into the system, he was rehabilitated. Kurt Kumli who is the supervising deputy district attorney for the
Juvenile delinquency is committing criminal acts or offenses by a young person, generally involving people under the age of eighteen. That is what this research proposal is about. For my research proposal my research question is what can cause or deter juvenile delinquency in first time offenders? I feel that this is an important question to be asking, because in our society there is too much juvenile delinquency and if we can use this research to figure out what can cause and deter this phenomenon then we could sincerely help a lot of adolescents.
