What is Abuse? Abuse is not just being hit. Abuse is any action that is harmful or controlling and that affects the well being of another person. Many people use the term "Abuse" to signify physical abuse, but there are many more ways of abusing someone than beating them. Physical abuse is the most horrifying and most noticeable of them all, but it is only one of the many types of abuse. Here are some of the names for different categories of abuse: Physical abuse, Sexual abuse, Psychological and Verbal abuse, Forced confinement, abuse towards pets or property, Financial abuse, and Child abuse. The two abuses that I will be focusing on will be physical and mental abuse.

When I was little around 3 or 4, my parents split apart because my dad would drink and cause commotions in our family. Victimization is the process of making someone into a victim by harming or taking advantage of him or her in some kind of way. Jodie is a prime example of child victimization. She has been through such heartbreaking and disturbing forms of abuse, that her mind suppressed them. This is termed as being blind to betrayal. Mental breakdowns will then develop into suicidal thoughts. Even if the victim does not act out on a suicide attempt, it is still considered a psychological disorder. Panic disorder is another effect for verbal abuse, which causes the victim to have frequent panic attacks. A panic attack is triggered through the presence of the abuser or the thought of an argument taking into effect. In comparison to physical abuse, the victim tends to look for excuses for the abuser. The victim then takes on the blame for the reason behind the abuse. It is unhealthy for the victim to think that it is their fault for getting hit, slapped, choked, or pushed. Due to all the physical damage the victims have endured, they develop sleep insomnia. Sleep insomnia is the difficulty to fall asleep or stay asleep. It is common for physical abuse to occur at night, right before bed, so those that develop sleep insomnia, are thinking at any given moment they can be assaulted. Another psychological effect that physically abused individuals have to endure is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD can include flashbacks, anxiety, or nightmares. Another form of verbal abuse is in a marriage when your partner whether they may be a he or she is trying to make you feel like you are nothing and that you are inferior. Whether it is in a marriage or not it is hurtful and makes you think on it. Verbal abuse is considered emotional abuse because it does not physically scar you. Instead, verbal abuse causes you emotional pain and troubles, meaning emotional scarring.
