In discussions of schools should ban junk food and soft drinks, one controversial issue has been why schools should tell us on what to eat. My own view is in the middle of banning junk food and soft drinks. There is really good reason why or why not school should ban junk food and soft drinks. There are many reasons schools should ban junk food. One of the main reasons is, it’s not very healthy eating junk food every day. I believe many people would ban junk food and not soft drinks from school. I believe the same thing on banning junk food and not soft drinks from school. I know soft drinks isn’t healthy, but there are non-caffeine ones.
In my health class the teacher showed the class a movie, it was called Supersize Me. In the movie some guy decided to eat Mc Donald's for a whole month. People were wondering how the outcome will be on eating fast food for a month. They wanted us to know it’s not healthy for us to eat fast food

all the time. People shouldn't eat fast food more than twice a month that’s what I think. If people decide to eat out all the time it will cause many dangerous health problems. They will for sure be overweight. That will cause many horrible things for their health. It will get you very lazy and just want to lay all day. People should really think twice about eating fast food. It’s fine to eat it once in a while not all the time. People that don’t think they are going to get sick by eating fast food all the time are wrong. This is similar to students eating junk food at school every day of the week. In this world, it all resolves with fast food places. Healey agrees when he writes, “We are eating nearly 25% more food, but have not really changed our activity levels” (p.44) In other words, Healey believes we are eating more but not doing any exercise activity. At least everyone has eaten it once in their lifetime. Everyone decides to get fast food because its good food and you’ll get it fast. When people are lazy making food at their house they just think it’s better to go out and eat. Those people should stop being lazy and make food at the house. Also, the parents or the person who is in charge make children eat healthy snacks. Some people don’t think about what they are eating. Now imagine schools giving out junk food every day of the week. Schools should really take control of the food they are giving out for lunches. Dufault and Parsons state, “From the beginning, the superintendent and food service leaders planned the facility to ensure that balanced diets with quickly prepared, but healthy, foods are offered to students to help them establish an overall balanced lifestyle. The design effected a complete transformation of Hopkins School's food-service program, incorporating nutritional values into school curriculum and reaching out to local organic farmers and other purveyors of healthy foods, additionally exposing students to real-world experiences about the business world” (1). In other words, Dufualt and Parsons believe making this big change is going to better the students’ health issues. I believe they made a great decision on serving healthy food. By this decision the school made to serve healthy food will make a big difference of the students’ health. The students are still choosing junk food even if they know it’s not a healthy thing to eat.
If only the students knew what was really in the meat. Schlosser himself writes, “To make matters worse, the animals used to make about one-quarter of the nation’s ground beef – worn-out dairy cattle – are the animals mostly likely to be diseased and riddled with antibiotic residues” (204). Schlosser’s point is the meat from the fast food places are unhealthy and can lead to serious health issues. I’ve always believed that the meat was well taken care of for us to eat, but I was wrong. I know many people don’t know what is in the meat. Many people assume the meat that is not good is thrown in the trash, which they should know that they are wrong. The people processing the meat or buying it don’t care if the meat is bad; all they care is for having it, selling it, and giving it to people to eat it. The people processing the meat and the people buying it should really care if the meat is good or not. These bad meats are leading to school
lunches. Everyone has their opinion in which schools should ban junk food. I believe they should ban junk food from school. With all the information I’ve found and researched made me strongly agreeing to banning junk food. Schools should take a further look on junk food and what can cause from eating junk food. School should consider on having healthy food for lunch. Which can decrease obesity and health problems. Many people assume that they won’t be the unlucky one and get the bad meat. They think by eating junk food every day of the week won’t lead them from obesity or health problems. By making the right decision, in choosing something healthy other than junk food, can cause them to have a healthier life. People I’ve question on if they should ban junk food. They all believe it’s the people’s choice on what to eat. That schools shouldn’t make the students choice on what the students should eat. It’s the student’s decision if they want to eat junk food or not. I disagree with what these people say that schools shouldn’t choose what students should eat. I think if school changess their menu into healthy food, students would have no other choice than to eat healthy food. It’s the schools move to take the chance on making that big change in order to make the students life better. People don’t see the outcome of this problem. These people should really have an open mind on banning junk food from schools. They should know it will make many peoples life’s way much healthier. Another little problem we have in school is the soft drinks. Some people do believe soft drinks should be ban from schools. There are many of soft drink to choose from. Kregiel states, “Apart from drinking water, the most popular types of soft drinks are as follows: (i) ready-to-drink essence-flavored beverages; (ii) ready-to-drink beverages containing fruits or fruit juice; (iii) beverages ready-to-drink after dilution [1] (Table1)” (1). Kregiel’s point is that there are many of soft drinks people can choose from. So, people believe soft drinks should be ban from school. I disagree that soft drinks should be ban from schools. Gross agrees when she writes, “A 20 ounce bottle of Coca Cola has roughly the same calorie count as a McDonald's hamburger, but Kelly Brownell, a psychology, epidemiology and public health professor at Yale University, said it is easier to over-drink than over-eat” (1). In making this comments, Gross urges us to know it isn’t as bad to drink more than to over eat junk food. There are people that rather have a soft drink other than a water to drink. Sanjay states, “There have been few empirical studies of the role of soft drinks on the epidemiology of obesity and diabetes in low- and middle-income countries” (2071). Sanjay’s point is that people that been drinking soft drinks are leading into obesity and diabetes.
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
Michael Pollan makes arguments concerning the eating habits of the average American. Pollan suggests, in spite of our cultural norms, we should simply “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.”
I don't think our school lunch is healthy because it has fat and too much sodium. Although it is good it is fattening it is the reason for much of the obesity in the U.S. Many kids have no other option to eat the unhealthy school lunches or they will be hungry.
In writing, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser’s overall purpose was to inform the reader of what actually goes into the food they eat. He worked to bring to the light all that the fast food industry does in the dark. Whether it be the unsanitary slaughterhouses, as described on page 203, “The pathogens from infected cattle are spread not only in feedlots, but also at slaughterhouses and hamburger grinders. The slaughterhouse tasks most likely to contaminate meat are the removal of an animal’s hide and the removal of its digestive system . . . if a hide has been inadequately cleaned, chunks of dirt and manure may fall from it onto the meat”, or the horrific treatment of laborers, depicted on page 170, “The kill floor is hot and humid. It stinks of manure. Cattle have a body

McDonald’s, one of America’s fastest growing fast food restaurants, has made more than its share of money within the last twenty years serving more than 46 million people daily. They have twice as many restaurants as Burger King and more restaurants than KFC, Wendy’s, and Taco Bell Combined. Often children have the dream of eating fast food for every meal of every day. Well, Morgan Spurlock took the challenge to see how dangerous it would be to eat McDonalds for every meal. He also took the challenge in response to a lawsuit against McDonalds by a family whose children became obese by the contents of its meals. Directed and starring Morgan Spurlock, who is married to a vegan chef and a healthy man for his age, Super-Size Me is a film that followed Spurlock for 31 days as he follows certain rules set by a series of physicians. He was only allowed to meals off the McDonalds menu including water. Also, he couldn’t exercise but had to walk the same amount of steps as the average American. Filmed all over the United States, Super-Size Me was made to inform the public on the manufactured foods they consume daily. The film also raises awareness on the dangers of what manufactured foods do to the body. Super-Size Me showed how one of the most popular fast food restaurants around today may be leading future generations to severe health problems.
Not only for adults, most American kids also eat fast food in every single day. McNugget or Coke both is indispensable choices. For example, supersize food for the Americans is also a huge challenge. They have no way of refusing to choose a supersize that looks more affordable. In order to test fast food really has negative impact for people, Morgan Spurlock only eats the food at McDonald 's in a continuous month in the documentary “Super Size Me”. The result of the experiment is that he gains 25 pounds, and the doctor gives him a warning about his physical condition. If he continues to live according to this way of life, coronary heart disease, cirrhosis and other diseases will continue to emerge. These facts prove that fast food can bring convenience, but also bring people the excess fat and a series of
News articles and internet blogs are saying that Americans are trying becoming more health conscious, but America ranks thirty-three in the healthies country. Bonnie Liebman, Sarah Federman, and Greg Crister are influential writer on the topic on food. They show the readers the freedom that food manufacturers have on labeling, and how it affects the consumers that fall for it. Bonnie Liebman, the author of “Claims Crazy: Which Can You Believe?” is a Director of Nutrition in CSPI. She has an M.S on nutritional sciences from Cornell University. Liebman provides links between health issues with food labeling. Her work talks about the different types of food labeling, and how the FDA fails to regulate on the structure/function claims that food
What the American culture is used to is eating three meals with a few snacks in between a day, and two out of the three meals usually involve eating meat. Most people don’t realize the risks of eating meat. Today’s medical experts say that avoiding meat helps you avoid saturated fat. They have found out from studies that women who eat meat daily have a fifty percent greater risk of developing heart disease than vegetarian women and a sixty-eight percent greater risk in men (staff writer). People may not know about serious diseases meat can obtain such as, mad cow disease and foot-and-mouth disease. In the September 1999 issue of the Emerging Infectious Diseases, approximately 76 million food borne illnesses- resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths occur in the United States each year from improperly cooked or diseased meat (Licher). That is a lot! You can also get salmonella poisoning from meat. People think that the problems come from eating red meat and are opting for fish over steak, but new evidence proves that fish can cause health problems too, risks that can’t be cooked away. This is a growing problem called histamine poisoning (Peck). Children are learning at a younger age that they don’t like meat, maybe because they don’t like the taste, or maybe it’s because they have a fear of eating their favorite cartoon or movie hero. For example, the pig from the movie “babe”.
Ban Junk Food Junk food. Is it the responsibility of schools to ban junk food and promote a healthy lifestyle for children of all ages between 6-18? Yes, yes it is. In my opinion, schools promoting a healthy lifestyle is as important as the children’s parents’ responsibility. Schools have as much impact in that department as children are fed during school hours.
In discussions of the obesity epidemic, one controversial issue has been increasing regulations on junk food. On the one hand, supporters of the idea argue that it is the U.S. government 's responsibility to protect its citizens from diseases like obesity, and that extra regulations would do just that. On the other hand, detractors contend that more government regulations would limit consumer choice and infringe on human rights. Others even maintain that junk food should be illegal. My own view is that fast food corporations are mostly responsible for the obesity epidemic and should be further regulated.
“We need to teach our children to eat real food. No fast foods. No junk foods. No processed foods. Just honest, nutritious, real food.” As the years go by many more people are becoming obese because they consume too much fast food. People need to get in habits to cook at home rather than eating out everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. People in this world are now always trying to look for the easy way out of things. Eating out at a fast food restaurant is not a healthy meal to eat. We the people need to avoid the fast food restaurants and stop being lazy and have home cooked meals everyday. Although fast food is convenient for everyone, it causes obesity and consuming too much fast food can lead to type 2 diabetes.
Junk food has been proven to be unhealthy long time ago. Junk food started to grow more and more recently and spread fast all over the world. Junk food reveals any food with high calories and low nutritional value. A big problem with junk foods is that satiation value of them is low, that means people need to eat a large amount of that unhealthy foods to feel full. So it is like eating a lot of poisons for a long time, what do you think the result will be on the health condition of the humans? Another problem of junk foods tend to replace other healthy foods; people who drink a lot of soda there is no room for healthy natural fruit juice in their stomach, people who are snacking on cookies, they’re not eating fruits and healthy vegetables (WebMD
