Swoosh! Nothing sounds better to a basketball player, than the sound of the basketball when it goes through the net. It is, without a doubt, the most satisfying sound in the entire game. However, this sound doesn’t come easy. In order to hear this beautiful sound, a player must perfect the shot. The secret behind the ideal shot, lies in two incredibly significant steps; the position/grip of the ball and Jumping. Adding the following information to anyone’s shot would make it unstoppable. The first step towards the process of shooting is jumping, which might sound simple and silly, but it actually is a very tricky process. It is difficult for athletes to shoot off a dribble, or jumping over other humans to get the shot off. All these situations that happen during a game need balance and correct foot stances for the proper jump. The in game athletes, like the in the NBA has to adjust their foot stances to have and maintain balance for the textbook shot. Also, they bend their knees before jumping to gain and add momentum to their shot. When shooting, athletes should jump upward not forward. They should also sweep their feet forward when they shoot, hence their feet don’t land in the same position where it started, because, if that happens, it can cause …show more content…
lots of tension on their necks and shoulders and the ball would also lack a good arc if shot this way. In landing, players should land on both feet, which should be the same way they took off from, because if they landed on one foot, they can seriously injure themselves. Another critical step to mastering the flawless jump shot is the position of the ball and the grip the athlete has over it. In order for the shot to feel great and smooth, position the ball in the dominant hand by just simply placing it on the front side of your hand. The hand is responsible for launching the ball. Place the non-shooting hand on the side of the ball to act as a guide, similar to holding a baby from the bottom by the dominant hand and the non-dominant hand is supporting the baby’s back. The palm and finger should all be touching the ball to have full control at all times. Then, in the process of shooting, the player’s arms should bend back and the hands should be in front of the face and align them with the backboard and the rim. After doing that, in the act of shooting, the player should extend the dominant arm towards the rim and follow through with the ball by bending the wrist forward, thus, after releasing the ball, the arm and wrist should look like a swan. In Conclusion, these two key steps should be added to every player’s arsenal, which will exceedingly improve their skills.
Also, to acquire those skills, players must have plenty of practice. Basketball is an extremely quick game, and people won’t be capable of stopping the game and thinking exactly what to do and how to adjust their shot during the game. Therefore, athletes must develop muscle memory, which is doing something naturally with no thoughts, akin to riding a bike or walking. Muscle memory is developed by doing something repetitively. Hence, in a basketball game when the clock is running down, all what’s on the player’s mind, is shooting the ball and hearing the beautiful, striking sound of the net,

In basketball, the goal is to win the game. To do that your team needs to make more baskets than the opponent. So, I am going to teach you how to shoot correctly just in case you ever find yourself playing in a game. You need to have the correct form, proper stance, jump, and follow through.
Research suggests a person’s height does not affect their ability to make a successful jump shot. The ability to make a successful jump shot be determined by the arc in which enters the rim of the basket. When a basketball enters the rim on a 45° angle with a backspin it increases the percentage of a successful jump shot. The height of a basketball player is key when the player is taller, they are able to make more successful defensive blocks and able to get more rebounds of the basketball.
While the most important parts of being a baller can be debated for years and years. I believe all would agree that you have to be able to put the ball in the hoop. That is why I have spent most of my life learning how to shoot a basketball properly. The process is long and requires using muscles all over your body, but with determination and hard work you will become the best shooter you can be.
Many of us know of the fun game of basketball, the object of the game is to basically run up and down the court and shoot the ball, and block the other team when they try to score. Whichever team has the most points at the end of the game is the winner. According to Bran Faurschou’s article, “ NBA Hoops Online” Basketball was invented in 1891 by, Dr. James Naismith. He was a physical education instructor. Back then the game of basketball was a little bit different, It was the same concept but it was different. When Dr. James was working as the physical education instructor at the YMCA training school, he came up with the game of basketball as an activity for his
Basketball is a sport that has changed in various ways since its invention in 1891. It has evolved and expanded across the United States and across the world. Although it has had its ups and downs basketball is still a sport that is enjoyed by over 250 million people in this world. Today it is one of the biggest sports known and it continues to grow every year with new players bringing new styles and competition. The changes throughout the history of basketball can be shown through its origin, how it developed into a competitive sport, and its evolution into present day leagues.
...e you a great shooter. Although I suffered injuries in my past basketball career which earned me a basketball scholarship to play collegiate basketball, I am now more knowledgeable about my position. This knowledge has helped me reflect on myself and my experiences as a player transitioning to a coach. I believe it is important that I educate my players and teach them proper mechanics but also mental set. Acknowledge that the jump shot is more than a motion of physical ability and talent, it takes a great amount of thinking and implying the information you already know to what you learned. All coaches throughout the country regardless of their level should have knowledge of biomechanics and require there staff to also know the following information. This allows the opportunity for kids to learn the correct technique, prevent injuries, and transform them as a player.
“The odds of a high school basketball player making it to the “next level” to play college basketball (DI, II, or III) is slim. In fact, only 3.4% of high school players go on to play college basketball. Taking it even further, only 1.2% of college basketball players go on to get drafted in the NBA” (Winters, 2016). There are two types of players in the game. There are the kids who play basketball because they are athletic, and all they are seeking to gain is the recognition and awards. They want to be known. Those players are self-centered, they do not play for the team, and generally don’t play because they love the game. These are the types of players who don’t usually go on to play at the next level. On the other hand, there are the players that absolutely dedicate their life to the game of basketball just because they love the game. That is what coaches are looking for in a player, and that is the kind of player I am striving to be.
Why they need to know the basics of basketball is because of their age they are young and probably have never played before and starting at the very basics is the best thing a coach can do for them which is teamwork. Teamwork is something only the coach can introduce to kids before they start games and positions because without teamwork how can you pass the ball or even play the game there is no I in team as they always have said to kids. “ In order for inexperienced team players to understand teamwork, the philosophy behind it should be explained to them logically as well as shown to them what teamwork is like actually
There are many aspects to the game of basketball and physics can be applied to all of them. Although to be good at basketball it is not necessary to play it from a physics point of view. Basketball players become good by developing muscle memory for the actions that must be performed in the game of basketball from years of practice. Nevertheless knowing some of the physics in the game of basketball can help a good player be a better player. In this paper I will cover the three most important aspects of the game, shooting, dribbling and passing.
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football. The global prevalence of basketball is unquestionable, especially among the young. Basketball is a dynamic team sport that involves a pattern of alternating, active, and skilled movement activities. There are compound demands that require a mixture of individual skills, team plays, strategies, and motivational aspects.
The higher an object is held, the more potential energy it has (if it is going to be dropped). When that object, such as the basketball, is dropped, its potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. The closer the ball gets to the ground, the more its potential energy decreases and its kinetic energy increases. The reason the ball does not bounce up all the way back to its original drop point is because when it hits the surface, some of its kinetic energy is “l...
Bounce! Bounce! Bounce! Bounce! Have you ever wondered about how a sport is played? Well your at the right place! If you follow these steps you will become a basketball pro!
At a young age, we were taught to believe in each other and always do what is best for the team. As a child, I could be stubborn at times and think that my way was the only way, but once I became a basketball player, I learned that there are many different solutions and that it is okay to make mistakes. Basketball has taught me to respect others and be the best person I can be.
Physics is a part of everyday life. It is evident in the modern technological devices we use in every day experiences and objects around us. Although physics is understood to be only useful in the classroom, physics can also be applied to one the most popular activities on the planet, basketball. Whether jumping for the ball, or leaping for a slam dunk, the human body follows the same laws of projectile motion as do other objects. The sport that includes shooting, passing, running, and dribbling involves topics covered in physics such as force, friction, effects of air resistance, velocity, air pressure and energy. Basketball also involves factors such as projectile motion in making a basket, gravity and its effects on passing and dribbling, and Newton’s First and Third Law on passing and a number of others.
Why are mental skills so important to performance and why are they often neglected by coaches and athletes? Yogi Berra has been quoted as saying, "sport is 90% mental and 50% physical." You can question his mathematical savvy, but if you're an athlete, coach or fan, you can't question his wisdom. (Hacker, 2000) Many athletes understand that while developing oneself to their physical potential is a critical element in performance potential, it is often a deficit in our psychological game rather than errors in our physical performance that keep us from performing at optimum levels in practice, games or matches. Spud McKenzie, the Budweiser poster puppy, suggested that it is important to say when, but also emphasized the critical element of knowing “when to say when”. It is often the successful athlete has recognized what needed to be done and the unsuccessful athlete was unable to do so. As a consequence, it is not the physical talents or abilities that separate athletes and teams, or successful versus less successful performance, rather, the psychological dimension that most frequently explains a given sport outcome or individual performance. For this reason games are played. Prior to each contest, judgment could be made with regard to which team or individual is the “more highly skilled”. If games were decided on who is the most physically gifted and/or talented individuals or teams, it would prove to be an exercise in futility to compete. As a result, whether you are an athlete or a coach, mastering the mental game of sport will allow you to achieve a level of success as a competitor than you could otherwise not achieve by focusing exclusively on the physical side of sport.
