Julia Child
A hero is a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. John Barth, an American novelist, once wrote, “Everyone is necessarily the hero of its own life story” (FamousQuotes.com). Julia Child was her own hero, she is now a legacy in the culinary industry, she not only inspired America to begin cooking French food, but she also became a role model to housewives and working women alike.
Julia Child was born on August 15, 1912 in Pasadena California. She had 2 siblings and were all sent to private schools. In 1930 Julia went to Smith College in Massachusetts, where she majored in history, but at the outbreak of WWII Julia joined the Office of Strategic Services hoping to work as a spy, but got a job as a file clerk. While in Sri Lanka, she met Paul Cushing Child, a member of a distinguished Boston family, who was working as a maker of maps. Their romance bloomed when both were assigned to China, it was there that Paul, a noted lover of fine food, introduced her to cooking. After the war, Julia began to study cooking in Beverly Hills, California. She and Paul were married in September 1946 and moved to Washington D.C., where he had taken a position with the Foreign Service. After he was sent to Paris, France in 1948, Julia came to appreciate French food. She decided she wanted to learn about French cooking and after studying the language, she enrolled at the famous Cordon Bleu cooking school. With two fellow students, Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, she formed a cooking school called,“L' Ecole des Trois Gourmandes (School of the Three Gourmets).” Julia began working on a cookbook with Simone Beck, writing while following her husband a...

... would have a legacy, in her honor on August 15, restaurants nationwide take part in a Julia Child Restaurant Week, where her most famous recipes are featured on their menu's,after all how tasteless would America be if she had not showed us how to add the right seasonings?
Julia Child is my hero because she had the motivation and willingness to be different, she was not afraid to stand out, she made mistakes and accepted them. She not only did America a favor, for she allowed us to learn new cooking styles, but she also helped in WWII. We are forever grateful to her. Julia Child's memory will always live in our memories, whenever we taste grand ma's cooking, it is probably on of Julia's many popular recipes. As long as people love food and cherish unique personalities who find a way to make their dreams come true against the odds, Julia Child will always be with us.
