The story starts out saying how all the birds in the sky were invited to a feast that would be held in the sky. The birds painted themselves and got ready for the event. The tortoise notices what was happening with be birds because he was very wise and deceitful, or as the book says, “he was full of cunning.” (Achebe 96) The tortoise was hungry and had not eaten in a long time, so the tortoise in his deceitful ways, went to ask the birds if he could join them in the sky. The birds answered, “We know you too well…you are full of cunning and you are ungrateful. If we allow you to come with us you will soon begin your mischief.” (97)
The girl took great pride in the fact that she helped her father with the chores on the farm. Her main chore was to water the foxes. Laird would help with a small watering can though he would usually spill most of his water. The girl would also help her father when he would cut the long grass around the fox pens. He would cut it and she would rake it up. He would then throw the grass on top of the pens to keep the sun off of the foxes. The entire fox pen was well thought out and well made. The foxes were fed horsemeat, which could be bought very cheap. When a farmer had a dying horse her father would pay for the horse and slaughter it. Her father was very ingenious with his fox farm and the girl was obviously impressed. She was proud to work with her father. One time while her father was talking to a salesman he said, “Like you to meet my new hired man.” That comment made her so happy, only to have the salesman reply that he thought it was only a girl.

Tom knew he couldn't stop Baaaab, and that his word was no match against Baaaab's. When the farmer returned, Tom knew what was about to happen next. The farmer grabbed Tom by his cowbell and dragged him away. All of the other farm animals watched as Tom rode off in the farmers truck. The farmer went off to sell Tom away! The waterbucks name gives it the impression that it is an animal that dwells in water, but that is infact not true. The waterbuck is a type of antelope or deer that resides near water at all times; this is what gives this animal its unique name. A group of waterbucks are identified as a herd or cluster. The males and females do not have a specific name that is used to refer to its gender, but the babies are commonly called calves. The scientific name given to the waterbuck is Kobus ellipsiprymnus.
The ship was being tossed by angry waves. The whole crew and captain had deserted their ship only to perish to the sea. The only ones remaining on board was the Robinson family. When the storm was over, they discussed about how to get to shore. After much thinking, they built a sort of raft big enough for the family of six, taking with them things that could be of use. Once on shore, they began to search for food and made up somewhere to sleep. The next day, Father and the eldest son, Fritz, went into the forest to explore the island further. They found food like sugar cane, potatoes, and figs. Father, Fritz and two other sons, Ernest and Jack, built a sort of tree house for the family to sleep. Father and Fritz went back to the wreck for supplies and took with them all the animals they had left on board. The two dogs, which they named Juno and Turk, would be guard dogs, the cow would be good for milk, the sheep for wool, the donkey for travel and the chickens for eggs. The family soon learned that there were other animals on land for they had to hunt for food. There were penguins, lobsters, oysters, agouti, monkeys, and jackals. Fritz took a baby monkey and named him Knips and Jack took a young jackal, who he named Fangs. Mother planted roots for lemon, apple, and pear trees.
