Personal Statement - Josiah Peebles
In 7th grade at the age of 12, a former-Air Force pilot came to talk to my school on veterans day about the rush and excitement he had while he flew an airplane. He said he had been in Operation Desert Storm and many practice exercises while he was in the military. I was sitting in the back row of the bleachers but I thought, he was talking directly to me. Ever since those few minutes while he told us his amazing story, i wanted to fly an airplane. A year later in my story I went on my first commercial airline plane to Orlando, Florida. While my family slept, I was wide awake. It was an unbelievable experience. I believe that I am a suitable candidate to have a seat on the Polaris Aeronautics class.
I can’t not forget that moment. Ever. I look back at my beginnings at Fort Benning Georgia were I started my airborne training and went on to Fort Bragg North Carolina for the special forces qualification course. Not only do I have airborne brothers but I have Special Forces brothers throughout the world.
Although I grew up in a military family, I never saw myself going into a military career. Up until I was about fourteen years old, I planned on being a marine biologist in Hawaii. Sounds nice, right? Well, at the end of my eighth grade year I decided that I might as well join NJROTC, because all of my friends were doing it and it seemed okay. I have to say, looking back, I was quite naive. Joining NJROTC was the smartest and most valuable decision I have made to this day.
I was smiling and laughing while many on the plane were vomiting. This was the most fun I’d had on a flight, but not everyone seemed to share my excitement. They had good reason for anxiety; we had endured a turbulent, and were now circling Columbus unable to land. This started my experience at Winter Guard International World Championships in my junior year.
My initial reason to enter the Air Force was a great way to pay for college which turned into a call of duty and a service commitment which has actively allowed me to contribute to the Air Force mission. Thus far I have led a joint force search and rescue effort and a multinational exercise to preserve freedom. As an F-15E instructor WSO and combat mission ready WSO I actively contribute to ensure our freedoms are preserved and the attacks of September 11, 2001 will never happen again.
I then bought up stock without a broker to insure myself. I was living out the american dream. I received an offer for a bunch of stocks for two dollars so of course I took it to help out a poor lad. I never realised that it was from winston Churchill. So I asked a stock broker how much this stock was worth and he said it was worth a dollar. I didn’t believe him of course I thought it was a scam of course. I then went to work and I realised that my wages had been cut again. So I then was working my hardest ever to the point that I was physically exhausted. I was now fainting at home to get the necessary sleep in order to sustain my work regimen. I was summoned to the office one last time to learn that I was laid off. The date was 1939. I then joined the airforce to get a solid job. I was assigned a test pilot role in the airforce and I tested the P-40 warhawk and the P-39 It was the best plane I ever flew. I never realised what fun it is to fly in a airplane before. I was instantly hooked to flying and I Never wanted to stop flying. I was hooked I was never going to quit the air force. I kept flying even during world war two. I then was involved in a carbon monoxide leak in the engine and I just managed to bail out in time and save my life to the point I was so terrified I never wanted to fly again so I settled
Lavinia Lyte Tremain once stated to her son, “Johnny, if there is not one thing left for you and you have no trade and no health, and God Himself has turned away His face from you, then go to merchant Lyte…” Esther Forbes, page 28. Johnny should pursue the Lyte’s help for three reasons: for family, for a lesson and for obedience.
The poem entitled On My First Son is a pouring out of a father's soul-a soul that pours out every last drop of pain, anguish, and love for his deceased son neatly into a beautiful poem. Ben Jonson illustrates his love and loss with concreteness and passion. Just as an artist creates a painting on paper with a pallet of colors and different types of brushes, Jonson uses thoughtful phrasing and strong diction to create a vivid word painting of his son.
Of all the wonderful CES schools out there, I would most like to attend BYU Provo. I feel like this University will allow me to thrive educationally and accumulate a considerable amount of knowledge. I want to attend a school that will push me to become better academically and as a contributor to society. I feel as if BYU has high moral and academic standards that I can use to better myself, these standards are something I want to attain and use for the better of self and those around me. BYU would be a great place to demonstrate and enhance my talents, which is something I feel compelled to do. Growing up, my Father taught me to reach for greater things this life has to offer and not settle for mediocrity. It is easy to take the path of simplicity
Sivi and I have spent a lot of time talking with, and taking care of Senior Citizens on a volunteer basis. Through many conversations, we discovered that one of the major regrets that people have, as the near the end, is that they didn't experience everything that they wanted to when they were younger. The major reason for this was fear. Fear that they would fail or fear that they might be injured. Sivi and I had decided years ago that we would never allow fear to prevent us from trying something new. Now, in our middle and late forties, we had decided to voluntarily jump out of a perfectly good airplane just for the experience of doing so.
I grew up near Atlanta, Georgia where there were no active duty Air Force bases nearby. I also come from a family with no military background and was never encouraged to join the Air Force. I joined because my own personal internal reasons and nothing else. I played on my high school baseball team for four years, and in that time I grew to love the hard work, commitment, team work, and sportsmanship that it took to succeed during the season. In fact, between my junior and senior year of high school, the traits I learned from playing baseball stopped becoming traits and they started becoming my complete persona. I wanted to find a career field...
When I was seventeen I nervously traveled about 350 miles from my sleepy little home town of Freedom, Wyoming to the relatively enormous city of Boise, Idaho to go to the Military Entrance Processing Station. This wasn 't the first time I had been this far from home by myself, but it was the first time I was making adult decisions without my parents involvement. When it came time for me to choose my job in the army the counselors presented me with a long list that I qualified for. I got tired of scrolling and reading so I chose the first job that I actually understood. I returned home and excitedly told my parents that I would be an infantry soldier. My dad 's response to this might be considered a little less than heart warming “You dumb ass. Why didn 't you choose
Personality takes many shapes and forms and is affected by many factors. My understanding of personality is simply a genetic and environmentally determined set of psychological traits that influence our reactions in the world around us. Genetic because our parents possess a certain set of psychological personality traits that we tend to have in common with them so therefore in my opinion there are heritable personality traits. Personality is environmental because we each have our own separate experiences in the world and these experiences help form our unique personality. Neo-Freudians such as Jung have given us a wide array of ideas of how they believe personality is developed and formatted. Jung in particular has a very interesting
Many years ago when I was a freshman in high school, an event happened to me that changed my life for the better. My friend invited me to go hiking with him and his sister. He was going to go hiking in Yosemite. The following day I prepared myself mentally and physically in order to accomplish this hike.
