Joseph Ratzinger was born on April 16, 1927 in Marktl, Bavaria, Germany. He was birthed in his parents’ home, on Holy Saturday. On the same day, he was baptized. His father, Joseph Ratzinger, was a very religious man and a police officer, who was modestly paid. His mother, Maria Ratzinger, was a stay-at-home mother. His brother, Gerog, and his sister, Maria, were older than him. “He was the youngest of three children” (Streissguth 11).
Ratzinger’s childhood was not like any other. In that time, Germany was under Nazi-Rule. The Ratzinger family was anti-Nazi. Although, his father was a police officer, he tried his best to steer clear from what was happening under Hitler. In order to keep his distance, he took a series of less significant jobs. At a very young age, Joseph witnessed things he necessarily should not have at his age. Because of the Nazi-Rule, he witnessed a lot of cruelty. He saw his very own parish priest being beaten before his eyes right before the celebration of mass. In 1929, the Ratzinger family moved to a small town in Aschau, Germany. The Ratzinger family moved around consistently because of the father’s job. They then resided in a small apartment right above the police headquarters. When Joseph was five, he met Cardinal Faulhaber from Munich, Germany. He then dreamed of becoming a cardinal just like the one he’d just met.
Many of his friends and associated described him as a gentle man. They also included that he was always fair and listened to all sides of an issue and was open to opposing views.
When he was fourteen, Hitler took complete power of Germany. The school system was forced to follow Hitler’s orders and therefore, Joseph was enrolled in the Hitler Youth Movement against his will. He was an unent...

In The Boy Who Dared, Helmuth dared to speak out for what he believed in even if it meant walking into the hands of death. Helmuth decided to spread his views on the way the Nazi Party deceived and manipulated the Germans. The Nazi Party started indoctrinating the youth of Nazi Germany by teaching the Nazi ideology at a very young age. One major ways Hitler did this was through the Hitler Youth. The Hitler Youth was founded in the 1920’s. The main goal of this organization was to eliminate the inferior and strengthen the youth. In Hitler’s words, “The weak must be chiseled away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain. A young German must be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp’s steel.” (“Hitl...

Raymond Kolbe’s story is deeply connected to the circumstances of history during the time between World War I and World War II. From the date of his ordination on April 28, 1918 to the date of his death on August 14,1941 the world found its self in much turmoil. World War I had just ended and the depression had its grips on all of Europe. His primary mission was to lead people to Mary. Maximilian and six others started a group called “The Crusade of Mary the Immaculate”. Their focus was to “convert sinners, schismatic’s, freemason, and bring all men to love Mary Immaculate.” (www.catholic-pages.com) This remained his focus for much of his life, however he is known most for the story of his heroism that occurred in Auschwitz. The events leading up to World War II started in 1933 when Adolf Hitler became the Chancellor of the Nazi Party. By 1939, Poland, Maximilian’s homeland, was invaded by the Nazis. The

Kittelson effectively composed the book and created the biography to be an interesting look into the life of Martin Luther. His successful usage of primary source documents and information compounded with his personal literary explanation of Luther’s journey toward reformation and peace with God. Kittelson’s book is not without humor either, he includes direct quotes and dialogue between Luther and Zwingli debating the Lord’s Supper. The insults and demonstrative behavior show Luther as he was, a reformer, who wished to convince others of the power of the gospel. This engaging study is both informative and engaging. Luther the Reformer is a good biography for anyone interested in Martin Luther’s life and interested in learning more about why his journey impacted not only the Roman church then, but the entirety of the Christian Church to this
The life of a child in the 1930-1940 was not an easy life not if you were a Nazi, not if you were Jewish. These Children lost their childhood because of a war. Their shattered childhood creates stories that seem horrific to us today. Life as a child growing up in a Nazi family is probably easier than dealing with the problems that the Jewish children have. However, every Nazi child had to sign up for the Hitler Youth. The Hitler Youth was an organization to discipline young minds and preach to them about anti semitism. Hitler Youth was one of the largest youth groups in Europe at the time if parents did not have their children in it they would face fines or have charges of imprisonment. The Nazi regime brainwashed the kids, they made them aggressive and intolerable. In the group there was even a small ‘Gestapo’ that would make sure all the children were doing the correct task if not the ‘Gestapo’ would report this. This shows how much power the children were given. During the 1940s more boys were recruited to join the army or guard concentration camps and ghettos. When the allied forces surrounded Germany the Nazi’s decided everyone of he age of fifteen and above would have to fight the war. They would be given rigorous training,
The youth of Germany were an important target for Hitler. He knew that if his dream for the thousand year Reich were to be fulfilled he needed the loyalty of the young German people. But how did he obtain that loyalty? How did he set about bending the German children’s hearts and minds to his will?
The Youth was an important asset to Hitler’s as they would complete his 1,000 year and help the Nazis last forever. Kids were taught what Hitler wanted them to know and not what he wanted them to know so once after a few generations,
Jesus taught by words and examples so too does Benedict envisage for himself and his followers. Benedict’s Spiritual tools, emphasized, Love of God, Love of neighbor and love of self. Jesus build an intimate relationship with His Father throughout His ministry. (MK6:12)-“He spend the whole night in pray.” (Mk 5:29-32)-Jesus showed love to sinners. Jesus’ whole ministry depicts love Of God, love of neighbor and love of self. Benedict learn from Jesus’ preaching. (Matt 25:31-40) that Jesus is present in everyone (neighbor). Pope Benedict in his encyclical behold the pierce one wrote that being a Christian involves ones neighbor. Judgement will be based on these actions. Jesus is master of the laws and a perfect fulfillment of the law. (MK 2:28) For Benedict, these spiritual tools is in line with what Christ lived and preached because He obeyed the laws of His
His life was stuck in a loop, short, wrong. Peter went to school. It was a Hebrew school in Osnabruck.
What Benedict means by the spirit of silence, develops by our daily meditation. This can be beneficial because we can examine the practical ways we live by taking the opportunity for keeping silent for 24 hours or even for a shorter period of time. We should be silent everywhere, in the car, home, in our daily exercises, also in cell phone use, and emailing. Furthermore, Benedict looks at the practice to test the theory. Every single person should really take a day off and try to keep silence. They should do that because this might help them discover things that they haven't yet discovered. One of the things I discovered in the 24 hours was that being silent for even a while will really make us think of the power our words can have. talking is a really daily necessity for most, and it is very hard for almost everyone to stay silent for long pe...
In The Bible, the story of Joseph is a tale about a seventeen year old young man who was the oldest of his fathers' sons. He was also his father's favorite son. Joseph often had dreams which showed him as being a savior for his people. For this reason, he was sold into slavery by his own envious brothers. Joseph went on to make a better life for himself in Egypt, but it was not long before he was thrown into prison after being

He believes that one’s quest should be to seek the absolute freedom of the individual but he is still uncertain of which is the best way to successfully accomplish it, following one’s feelings and instincts or making reasonable decisions. In order to reach the desired goals one should be in permanent dialogue with the world, alienation is not an option. Finally, he expresses what worries him the most: how to live. Old Joseph was someone who lived according to a life-plan and he forced its execution against all odds. Old Joseph’s answer to the question “How should a good man live; what ought he to do?” was to follow the plan, but he soon realized the problems that a hypothetically perfect system generates when applied in the real world. He tried to impose the plan to his wife, his niece Etta and his friends, and failed miserably. At this point Joseph describes himself as a grenade ready to detonate and he betrays his own plan, he lives alienated from everyone in his room unable to carry out his ideas or move forward towards his
