The decline and the disappearance of traditional monarchies in the 19th and 20th century has paved for other individuals and/or groups to rule. The three main dictators of World War II were Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Benito Mussolini. The pursuit to gain over cultural, economic, and political factors of people and land are the main goals of the dictators. To achieve their goals, they eliminate anything and anyone that gets in their way. Joseph Stalin, a russian communist, and the General of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1929 - 1953. Drastic agricultural and economic reforms were imposed to ready Russia for the fight against Capitalism. “He ruled by fright, and millions of his citizens died from his brutal reign,” ( “Joseph Stalin”, pg. 1). In 1930, Benito Mussolini took control of Italy, while Adolf Hitler took control of Germany. After Vladimir Lenin, a Russian communist revolutionary, politician and political theorist, died, Stalin outmaneuvered his rivals and won the control of the Communist Party. In the tardy 1920’s he became dictator of the Soviet Cumulation. Then he wanted to industrialize the country because at the time the economic was farming. Millions of farmers reluctant to be apart of Stalin’s orders and were killed as penalization. The civilization led a widespread famine across the Soviet Coalescence and killed millions of people. Stalin wanted to kill anyone who opposed him of his orders. He engendered an army of secret police, and inspirited citizens to spy on others which had many people killed or sent to a labor camp. Mussolini’s destiny was to rule Italy as a modern Caesar and to re-create the Roman Empire which means that he also wants to gain control not only in his own country, but in other countries as well by waging wars over other countries like Libya, Ethiopia, Albania, and Somalia. The allied powers promised Italy land in exchange for joining them against the central powers during WWI. But, Italy was mostly ignored during the Treaty of Versailles and received very little land. This can be seen as one of the reasons Mussolini aligned with the Axis powers in WWII. He knew that the allies did not treated Italy fairly so he went against them in the next war. He also began invading countries in Africa such as Ethiopia so that Italy could establish itself as the rightful leading power of the Mediterranean. While the invasion of other countries may seem bad, Mussolini did it to increase the power of his own country. He fought for Italy first, proving himself a true nationalist. Another example of this can be found when Hitler came to power and it became apparent to Mussolini that Austria was threatened.
