Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? Jonathan Mulkey, Bethel University Review of Forensic Science Raymond Edwards, PhD May 26, 2024 Abstract This paper is about the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, who was a 6-year-old beauty pageant winner. This case, although it happened in 1996, is to this day one of the most famous “cold cases” in American history. This little girl’s name has been heard in most households across the nation, and even the world. My hope for this essay is to cover the biographical background of JonBenet, the details of the case that are known, the forensic side of the evidence, and then I’ll share my theory about the perpetrator. Introduction: The Backstory The story of JonBenet Ramsey is a sad one that many people still talk about today. JonBenet was born on August 6, 1990, to her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey. Especially considering what this led to. Investigators should have found JonBenet’s body, not her dad. Further, failing to block off the parts of the house that could have contained evidence led to evidence being possibly contaminated, ruined, or destroyed. Perhaps it was complacency, laziness, or just inexperience, but from my perspective as a detective, it’s obvious that the police went into this investigation with preconceived notions and a closed mind. Something that will ruin your case very quickly. Conclusion: As a father and a detective, this is an unbelievably heartbreaking case. This tragedy desperately needs a conclusion that ends with justice. Unfortunately, nearly thirty years later, there are few advancements in the case. I believe that evidence implicates that an intruder was responsible because of the
