Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? Jonathan Mulkey, Bethel University Review of Forensic Science Raymond Edwards, PhD May 26, 2024 Abstract This paper is about the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, who was a 6-year-old beauty pageant winner. This case, although it happened in 1996, is to this day one of the most famous “cold cases” in American history. This little girl’s name has been heard in most households across the nation, and even the world. My hope for this essay is to cover the biographical background of JonBenet, the details of the case that are known, the forensic side of the evidence, and then I’ll share my theory about the perpetrator. Additionally, along the way, I will rely on my own expertise as a detective as well as information from …show more content…
Introduction: The Backstory The story of JonBenet Ramsey is a sad one that many people still talk about today. JonBenet was born on August 6, 1990, to her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey. In her short-lived time in the town of Boulder, Colorado, she was well known for winning beauty pageants. The Ramsey family, including JonBenet’s older brother Burke, lived in a relatively massive house in Boulder, Colorado. The seemingly perfect Ramsey family had their life shattered when JonBenet was found dead in the basement of their home on December 26, 1996. She was only 6 years old at the time. The police were alerted by Patsy Ramsey's 9-1-1 call reporting a ransom note, demanding $118,000 for JonBenet's return (Flynn, 2023; Aaholm, …show more content…
Not a day later, and by John Ramsey. The police first treated it, understandably, as a kidnapping. The issue, however, is that evidence of a kidnapping can be found throughout a residence. Investigators and officers should have cleared the entire house not only for everyone’s safety, but also to look for clues and evidence. Then upon realizing that the Officers never bothered to fully explore the residence, asking John to check his own home for evidence or missing property is a slap in the face. Especially considering what this led to. Investigators should have found JonBenet’s body, not her dad. Further, failing to block off the parts of the house that could have contained evidence led to evidence being possibly contaminated, ruined, or destroyed. Perhaps it was complacency, laziness, or just inexperience, but from my perspective as a detective, it’s obvious that the police went into this investigation with preconceived notions and a closed mind. Something that will ruin your case very quickly. Conclusion: As a father and a detective, this is an unbelievably heartbreaking case. This tragedy desperately needs a conclusion that ends with justice. Unfortunately, nearly thirty years later, there are few advancements in the case. I believe that evidence implicates that an intruder was responsible because of the

Jonbenet Ramsey: The Unsolved Murder Case There has been many unsolved murder mysteries, and one of them is the case of Jonbenet Ramsey. The case hasn’t been solved for over twenty years. Stated by John Ramsey, “As I was walking through the basement, I opened the door to a room, and knew immediately that I’d found her because there was a white blanket- her eyes were closed, I feared the worse but yet- I’d found her” (Bardesley, and Bellamy). On December 26, 1996, one of the most famous, unsolved murders took place in Boulder, Colorado (Christopher). The murder caused many events including accusations, interrogations, false claims, and examining of evidence. The case also caused the
