John Rutledge John Rutledge was brought up through a wealthy family in Charleston South Carolina. In the year of 1739 his mother and father were gifted with their first of two sons that lead to sign the constitution. John Rutledge started his education being taught through his father, who immigrated from Ireland and became his new life as a physician. When he had reached the age of twenty-one he crossed the Atlantic to study in London at Middles Temple. While he was living in England he pursued to graduate in English Practice. After his time studying in England he headed back to his hometown of Charleston. When he established his homestead John Rutledge is said to be a former slave owner. This Convention was about the Articles of Confederation and went through it and debated on how to make revisions to it. John Rutledge was ahead of many committees even the committee that drafted the first version of constitution. The Constitutional Convention also sparked the huge debate about a topic known as the three fifths compromise. John Rutledge disapproved about the briefness of the word incompetent, he then said that they could not agree on which way to vote until they are shown the enumeration of powers understood by the meaning of the word. It is obvious that John Rutledge was as said, a very stubborn and prestigious man. He was very prideful in what he believed and that was a very conservative view and argument in these debates. Based on this country's political history in the 1700’s it was more of a conservative government. Yes there was a strong democratic urge which ultimately balanced out the creation of our constitution from being too conservative or too democratic. John Rutledge strongly wore the elephant and was one always questioning and attacking someone on a newly brought up
