John F. Kennedy: Good or Bad? Assassinated? Everyone was surprised when this president was shot and killed riding down a street in Dallas. He was the youngest president ever elected. He was riding in a motorcade, going through Dealey Plaza a little after noon in Dallas Texas, when he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald on November 22, 1963.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States. He was 43 years old when he was elected in 1961 through 1963. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, as the youngest president to die. He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917, but was of Irish descent. His parents were Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Kennedy. Her maiden name was Fitzgerald, that is where he got his middle name. He had nine siblings. President Kennedy was named after his maternal father, John “HoneyFitz” Fitzgerald. In his early years his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, influenced him. President Kennedy graduated from Harvard in 1940, then entered the Navy. In 1943, his PT boat (patrol boat) was rammed and then sunk by a Japanese destroyer. He had grave injuries, but managed to lead the survivors through the perilous waters to safety. When he came back from the war he became a Democratic Congressman from the Boston area, but then later in 1953, went to the Senate. He married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12 ,1953. They had four children, Caroline, Arabella, John F. Jr, and Patrick Bouvier. The Peace Corps. was an organization that would send young volunteers to underdeveloped countries. He also stopped Cuba from making any more nuclear and long-ranged missiles that were a threat to the United States.
