John Brown University, founded in 1919, is located in the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Made up of the cities of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville, the area consistently ranks as a top 10 place to do business and live. In addition to the main campus, there are three educational facilities, one located in Fort Smith, a second in Little Rock, and the third in Rogers. The university was named after John E. Brown Sr. an entrepreneur, evangelist, and radio broadcaster. Brown wanted to provide a quality Christian education to students who would otherwise be unable to afford college, a tradition that the university continues today. The majority of students (more than 1300) are undergraduates and graduate students number slightly over 400. With a 13:1 student to faculty ratio, students will find smaller than average classroom sizes. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and there is an average acceptance rate for students. JBU offers more than 40 fields of study leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees. Majors include business, counseling, education, engineering (electrical and mechanical), and graphic design. Engineering is the most popular major. The university is one of a handful of small Christian colleges to offer degrees in digital media, graphic design, and photography. JBU is a missionary-centered school and offers many opportunities for students to travel abroad for up to four weeks on missionary trips. They also host missionaries to come and visit the campus. Many of the students grew up around the world traveling with their missionary parents. While the student base may seem similar in religious affiliation, there is plenty of diversity as students come from 42 states and 40 different countries to study at

Alton Crawford Brown was born in Los Angeles on July 30th, 1962. His parents were from a rural town in Georgia, Sir Alton Brown and his wife moved with their son, when he was 7, back to their home town. This is where Alton spent the rest of his days growing up. During his young age he spend a lot of time in the kitchen with his mother and grandmother learning to cook. Alton had a rough childhood at one point in time, his father committed suicide and later on his mother got remarried. While researching Alton Brown they don’t really say much about his childhood, they mainly focus on his college years and beyond into adulthood. In 2013, Penn State saw a 1.6% increase in student enrollment. This year, Penn State’s University Park gained 46,184 new incoming students. Our research looks into the incoming freshmen class and the options they are given in order to choose a roommate.
The school is huge and being a college prep school it is also selective in the students who get enrolled. The focus is on teaching and learning. The school seems predominately white with a few students of color.

HBCU’s have a line of history behind them. Each Institution provides examples of dedication and determination and they offer an education for “African-American” students and students of different backgrounds. HBCU’s prepare students for leadership and successful futures. Institutions today are facing major issues that could cause them to be non-existence but they work hard and push until they get what they need. This is a source of motivation to alumni’s and prospective students. The Colleges provide history, motivation, provision, and most importantly knowledge to every student that attends.
Brown was a member of the California Cadet Corps at St. Ignatius High School, where he graduated in 1955. In 1955, Brown entered Santa Clara University for a year, and left to attend Sacred Heart Novitiate, a Jesuit novice house, intent on becoming a Catholic priest. Brown left the novitiate after three years, enrolling at the University of California, Berkeley in 1960, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Classics in 1961. Brown went on to Yale Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctor in 1964. After law school, Brown worked as a law clerk for California Supreme Court Justice Mathew
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) began as Branch Normal College, which sought to accommodate the higher-educational needs of Arkansas’s African-American population. UAPB is the alma mater of such notable figures as attorney Wiley Branton Sr., Dr. Samuel Kountz, and attorney John W. Walker.
John Brown, a abolitionist, believed that the use of violence was necessary to end slavery unlike most pacifist abolitionists. Brown resorted to violence on several occasions in his mission to destroy slavery. He organized a small army of slavery opposers, which included many of his family members and relatives to carry out his mission. For instance, Brown and his men attacked the pro-slavery settlers in Pottawatomie Creek during the "Bleeding Kansas" period of violent tension between anti-slavery free staters and slavery supporters. Brown and his men murdered five pro-slavery settlers in Pottawatomie Creek. Brown and his small army also attacked the federal armory in 1859 at Harpers Ferry in Virginia, and took control of the armory. Brown
While other colleges tend to focus on sports and extracurricular programs, Samford is a Christian university whose focus is on helping students to grow in their walk with Christ. Multiple opportunities exist to serve in churches and the surrounding community. Whether attending governor's school, or touring the graphic design department, I have felt at home on Samford's campus. I sense God's presence each time I visit and I want to be a part of the experience.
