The dilemma associated with CEGEP choice is not one I experienced, as I know that the program suited for my objectives is John Abbott’s Honours Science Program. This being a priceless opportunity, I would appreciate my application being considered.
Since my youth, my curiosity correlated with my scientific endeavours. My biggest academic interests are Science and Mathematics, because the complexity of concepts intrigue and challenge me. I ask numerous questions, aiming to completely grasp notions, both on class material and on extra research done independently. The profession of medical doctor appeals to me for those reasons. My future plan includes an education at McGill University, in the M.D/M.B.A program. Being a physician with leadership training will allow me to accomplish my lifelong dream managing a team of doctors. The human body is a mechanism combining all the scientific fields (biochemistry, biophysics, etc.) My creativity can be utilized to create innovative, and revolutionary technologies, improving the flight experience. Therefore, another option is becoming an Aerospace Engineer, after studying at the McGill Institute for Aerospace Engineering.
The Honours Science Program expands on subjects, aiding me on my quest for knowledge. Working alongside a likeminded group of extremely motivated students will help me give the best of myself. I am ambitious and manage my time wisely, therefore the challenging work-load appeals to me. My goal-oriented self will benefit from working with inspiring people and watching weekly speakers. and I strive to learn as much as possible, so the fast-paced learning environment interests
me. As I aim to influence others positively, I am head of the school’s student council, with tasks ranging from planning activities and improving school conditions. I tutor students in French, Mathematics, and Science (ST and STE profiles). As a sergeant in Air Cadets (830 Pierrefonds Squadron), I give classes on aviation (where my interest in physics started) and leadership. I partake in the squadron’s military band, after attending a 6-week camp in Valcartier. There, I was “commander of a day” because of my leadership and resourcefulness. I play saxophone in my school’s band. I have been playing classical guitar for 4 years, winning “École Québec Musique” scholarship last summer. I take oil-painting classes and organized the Pierrefonds-Roxboro’s Youth Council art contest. I am planning the “Dr. Marsolais” dance, a fundraiser for the organ donation charity of the same name. I learned about medicine while gathering information for posters and flyers. I oversee logistics and finance for Charlemagne Model United Nations, calculating the budget, which my math-loving self joyfully did. As a delegate in the Secondary Schools United Nations Symposium in the Commission for Science and Technology for Development, I was aghast at the power and progress of Science, providing a further incentive for my application to this Program. Doing my aquatic lifesaving course, military lifesaving course and a physical fitness camp in Valcartier made me notice how much human health matters, all while learning about human physiology. Finally, I would like to thank those reading this letter for consecrating their precious time to me. I hope that a place in the Honours Science Program will be awarded to me, fulfilling my motivation and love for learning
I genuinely believe that peer interaction is a vital component in the development of academics as well as character in which I have the skill set and experience to do so. Growing up in a diverse and culturally rich community exposed me to various personalities and constructed me to undergo everything with an open mind. My unique background will expand the boundaries of the Honors Program with the incorporation of my personal experiences. With my strong work ethic and my willingness to explore a vast scope of courses, I can be an integral influencer in peer-to-peer learning environments. My preparation for every course beforehand assures my ability to participate and contribute during each class. I am always on top of my workload which proves that I would be an active student in classroom discussions and have thorough development in my research opportunities. I will be the thermostat in this program by setting the emotional and personal climate and setting examples for other students with a vision that we will all strive for the extra mile inside and out of the classroom. My passion to learn and the dedication I hold to my studies exemplify the type of student needed in this program. I hold the ambition that is needed to be successful in the Honors Program at the University of Georgia.
Students are given the opportunity to live and go to school with other students that have similar ambitions at heart. At my school, it is extremely rare to find other students who also have the desire to do more than what is minimally required to pass their classes. Simply being placed in an environment where everyone wants to be at school, and working towards the best education possible, would not only be motivational, but inspiring. The experience of meeting current Gatton Academy students has alone given me the inspiration to reignite my dreams of making a difference in the scientific community. It is thrilling to even think about having this stimulation surrounding me on a daily basis.
Studying maths at AS-Level bettered my problem-solving skills and logical thinking which are necessary to pursue my studies within this field. Biology has improved my knowledge of the structure of the human body and how the different systems in the body work together to keep us alive. Chemistry has developed my understanding of how chemical reactions occur in the body including the ion movements in the nervous system, and has evoked my enthusiasm for neuropharmacology. This has also stemmed for studying how SSRI’s work to treat depression and OCD in psychology. Psychology influenced my fascination with memory and how we retain information.
Anyway. For me, science is more than an interest and future career – it’s a hobby. I love finding the causes behind every day phenomena, especially when the phenomena itself is behind the scenes. Really the best thing about science is that it makes everything else more interesting. Why simply make chocolates when you can instead coax a polymorphous solid into forming the perfect crystalline structure, and make chocolate? It’s a wonderful world. And it’s even better when we experiment with it.
I have always been inspired by the workings of chemistry and mathematics. My studies of these subjects have developed my understanding and have made me pursue my interest in these two topics. I want to take up chemistry as it involves a large amount of mathematics which I value and understand to be challenging, yet very enjoyable, as there is always an alternative route to obtain the answer. Additionally, I am drawn to the course because it is a mixture of all these exacting subjects, forming a degree that is very demanding and stimulating. Chemists are constantly thinking of new ways to produce viable drugs containing different isomers to improve the pharmaceutical sector using mathematical equations. Chemistry is about innovation, applying information to new areas and how to do things better than they were before, the degree appeals to and fascinates me.
I am a twenty year old Biomedical Science student of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Since I was very young I was fully amused for nature. In 2015 3,784 student graduated from the program from the University of Ottawa, the large number of graduates’ doens’t necessarily mean a limit in the job opportunities. When I first entered the program, I was aware that many of my fellow students were joining the program in pursuit of following their dreams of becoming doctors. Nevertheless, soon after entering the program, we discovered that there is an array of choices that we can choose from instead of being fixated on one career choice. The solid foundation that the program offers whether in research or in diseases pathophysiology, allow the students to select from a variety of career options after graduation. Starting from medical school, which requires completing the same courses that the health sciences program offer. Nursing. Further, a career in physiotherapy opening a clinic that offers physiotherapy to patients following their surgery. Another choice is being nutritionist, developing policies related to healthy eating practices or evaluating existing ones. Students interested benign, optometrist, can option of a two year program them build on the experiences and skills learned in health sciences. Sonography, occupational therapy, laboratory technician are a few of the options that the students have the choice according to their preference. For me, health sciences program has scored me a job in the Canadian nuclear safety commission where they have directorate named “Radiation and health sciences” that is dedicated to looking at radiation’s impact on human health. I have always been the STEM kind of guy. Growing up, I excelled in math and science, both becoming a vital part of my educational pursuits. Math came naturally to me, it was easy to learn and apply concepts. In all the things I desire to pursue in my life math is a vital part of all of things as it is in most things in life. In regards to science I am attracted to biology in particular as it feels so broad. The study of genetics, cell signaling, and life has intrigued long since. I want to delve deeper in the preview shown to me in my books, and dig deeper toward something bigger. Using the internet, I am already advancing my knowledge by doing online courses on biology. These interests I hold dearly, shape what I long to do in the future.
My enthusiasm for physics, mathematics and computer science dates back to my childhood. I watched Star War and I was fascinated by laser swords and high-tech computers. I dreamed to become a scientist to invent such instruments and computers. Consequently, I usually spent long hours reading scientific books in the city library. I have read wide variety of books about atom and its structure. Actually, I had learned a lot about particles and their properties through self-study before I studied them at school. Throughout my school career I have always loved chemistry. In Chemistry there was always a sense that there was more, there was always something new and exciting to be discovered and theories to be proven (or even disproven). My proclivity towards science started from my childhood. It was in my high school, I built my first AM radio which fascinated me about electronic devices.
