One of JFK's most remembered accomplishments was the Cuban Missile Crisis. Never before had the US experienced any serious, life-threatening nuclear afflict. During the Cold War, the US and the Soviet Union both deployed large numbers of nuclear weapons that could destroy international ranges. As scary and nerve-racking as the situation might have seemed, JFK had to act swiftly and in an orderly manner, to protect millions of lives. Although tensions arose, Kennedy's calm, strategic mindset and the actions put in place to help improve future communication on both countries' behalves, helped ease the tension between the two countries, and avoid World War III (http://www.pbs.org). JFK also did not allow his military's opinions influence his decision regarding the missiles being placed in Cuba. JFK stood confidently with his decision, even though it was a struggle when he had thousands of men insisting on a plan that was contradicting his own. "Early on Tuesday 16 October 1962, John F. Kennedy's national security assistant, McGeorge Bundy, brought to the President's bedroom some high-altitude photographs taken from U-2 planes flying over Cuba. They showed Soviet soldiers hurriedly and secretly setting up nuclear-armed missiles" …show more content…
Kennedy is not only recognized as one of the best presidents that America has ever brought into office, but was also an important figure within the Civil Rights Movement, and was an extraordinary leader for our country during one of America's most difficult times. People remember Kennedy mainly for his fondness, and the way he inspired people with his intensified speeches, charm, and sensitivity. Before being handed over office, JFK had goals set for the US, and nearly accomplished all of them. Although, JFK's devastating assassination in 1963 tended to overshadow his major and significant accomplishments during his time in office; JFK's accomplishments were deserving of his lasting memory because of his iconic role in leading the Civil Rights Movement, and his leadership during one of America's most threatening times, the Cuban Missile Crisis. Although, Mr. Kennedy faced a few mishaps during his time in office, it is a fact to say that JFK handled most of his problematic encounters in a sophisticated and professional manner that made him likable by many citizens, regardless of his
JFK made it sound that anything was possible, even going to the moon. Although Russia was the first country to send a satellite into space, Kennedy intended to advance the space program to make a statement and show that the US’ industrial superiority and challenge the U.S. into becoming an even stronger nation by setting allowances for the specific programs for instance before 1970 First Man on the moon.. The Kennedy Administration was known for it's foreign policy much more so than it's domestic policies. It had a sympathy for the Civil Rights movement and did back up integration every way possible but was unable to achieve any substantive reform.
In conclusion John F. Kennedy did many good things for our country, he was a excellent and young president. John F. Kennedy was an irreplaceable president and did many great things like the civil right movement.
1 The missiles were being brought to Cuba by Russian leader, Nikita Khrushchev, who guaranteed President Kennedy that the missiles would never be used as a weapon against the United States. This is a lie. Khrushchev fully intended to use the missiles as a mechanism of defense against the United States and as a way to further pursue a relationship with Fidel Castro, who was the President of Cuba at the time. The United States needed to find a way to stop the development of missile sites without causing a break out of violent warfare.
Kennedy was elected president in the year of 1961. Which was during the time that the Cold War was in full swing. The Cold War being the tension filled era between the superpowers in the east and the superpowers in the west. Contrary to the other two presidents, JFK was not speaking to the American public at the time of the war 's conclusion but right near the middle of the 40 plus year issue. Regardless he was assuring the public. He stated, “...that the torch has been passed to a new generation of American-”. That optimism cannot be matched. Even at the darkest of times could he stand up there, the president of the United States, and tell the young people of America that their time is now. Not only that but he attempts to inspire Americans when he says “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”, which was definitely a knock at the Russians. JFK overall had this persona about him. This was the speech where muttered that historic and uplifting quote, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.” His message of peace and coexisting really stand the test of
May, Ernest R. “John F Kennedy and the Cuban MIssile Crisis.” BBC News. BBC., 18 Nov. 2013.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America was the youngest man to ever win the Presidential election at the age of 43. He was a well liked president, known for his youthfulness, high spirits and the commitments he made to the Unites States (O’Brien). During his inaugural speech, he stated that the U.S. would pledge “to convert our good words into good deeds” by forming alliances with the countries that border us. In order to prosper as a nation (“The Avalon”). President Kennedy had several great plans for this country and knew they “will not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be finished in the first 1,000 days, nor in the life of this Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin” (“The Avalon”). Unfortunately, these plans were not carried out to their full extent because while riding in an open parade car in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, Kennedy was shot and killed. Kennedy did suffer hard times as far as international affairs go, but he is known for The Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty and the Alliance for Progress (“John”).
John F. Kennedy “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” was once said by the 2nd youngest president in our long history. John F. Kennedy, in my opinion, was one of the greatest presidents ever. A good president symbolizes what the United States stands for. I honestly believe that all of the best presidents in our nation were in the 1900s. In the new century, there hasn’t been a president that changed the United States in a good way yet.

The significance of this event was that it had brought the world to the closest it could ever be to a nuclear war. Millions of lives, cultures and infrastructure would have been lost if it was not splendidly dealt with. Yet, a man was able to prevent this devastation, and he was none other than President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) of the United States. How was he significant to the event? This research paper will discuss it with the points that are based on JFK’s characteristics. Hence, to provide an overview of this paper; the outbreak of nuclear warfare was prevented in the Cuban Missile Crisis specifically by John F. Kennedy’s many distinguished characteristics.
On October 22, 1962, President John F. Kennedy reached out to America and the Cubans with his Cuban Missile Crisis Address to the Nation. During this time, the Cold War had occupied several countries of world. This war resulted from tensions, military and political, between Russia and its allies and America, its allies, and the Western Hemisphere. When President Kennedy gave his speech, Russia had occupied Cuba and began building military bases that contained nuclear warheads and other deadly missiles. People of America saw this as a threat to the freedom of the U.S. and the Western Hemisphere. In a time of great tension and fear, President Kennedy delivered his spectacular and reassuring speech that appealed to the citizens of American in several ways.
Whether or not you like Senator Robert F. Kennedy, there’s no denying his impact on the United States of America, and the people in it. Assassination is rarely just, and Robert Kennedy was a popular and beloved
Despite the numerous flaws in Kennedy’s presidency, it can very easily be looked at as a major success. Kennedy remained confident throughout his entire term believing that change can still occur. Though sadly, it would not be until his assassination in 1963, that people would finally begin to understand what his goals were. People no longer felt ashamed of his failures but felt gratitude for his successes, through the advancements in space technology to the civil rights acts, as well as the Peace Corps. He left behind a legacy that could not be forgotten, and
Because President Kennedy was able to communicate and be charismatic those two characteristics is what captivated the American voters to pick him as the 35th President of the United States. According to the Leadership book “the functional leader must be executive, planner, policy maker, Facilitator of internal relationship and external group representative” (Micheal Hackman, 2009). According to Dan Finn an advisor when Kennedy authorized the Bay of Pigs which the operation failed and was embarrassing; Kennedy would kick himself for not having asked enough questions about before authorizing the operation (Cannon, 2011). Kennedy would question every single move that his administration made. “Kennedy’s question-laden meetings with aides were like a faculty meeting … well, like a good faculty meeting, Finn said” (Cannon, 2011). Kennedy would always be reachable and friendly, but he knew where to draw the line because he was still the Executive officer and if he needed to confront you he would. “Kennedy was always your friend, but never your pal.” Fenn said as he describes working in the White House. Kennedy was easy- going, but kept a degree of separation From his staff ,so that if he needed to assert himself , he wouldn’t have to worry about hurting his friends feelings” (Cannon, 2011). During the Cuban Missile Crisis President Kennedy would assign a committee to come up with the best possible solution to the crisis. According to Leadership on the line Kennedy Assemble the best team, managed the group, set goals. He would often not even attend some of the meetings to make sure that the group was not just telling him what he wanted to hear. Kennedy took office on Jan, 20, 1961 and served until he was killed on November 22, 1963. John F. Kennedy gained the power to become president first by getting a good education and then by serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the US House of Representatives and a US Senator. He served as President from 1961 until 1963. The people liked Kennedy because he did good things to help the country out. For example, he encouraged Americans to do great things and he introduced the Peace Corps. He had a big impact on America and the world. He played a major role in the Cold War, in the arms race, civil rights movement, and Vietnam war. But Kennedy also had a dark side. As the Washington Post says, “ JFK had a dark side. The same internal fire that fueled his political success could also burn out of control”. In other words John F Kennedy did whatever he had to in order to get what he wanted. He wasn’t above bullying others and issuing threats. He risked his White House tenure, the welfare of his party, his policy goals and everyone he supposedly held dear. This was bad for the people because he made enemies. Administration was in general trying to stop the Mafia. This made him very unpopular with a very powerful foe and enemy, one that worked outside the law. This would obviously make the people scared because they now had enemy powers. So they loved Kennedy for what he was doing but then was scared of him for
