Jewellery in The Joy Luck Club have appeared many times, but for every time, they have appeared as different kinds of forms, and they represented different kinds of mood, characteristic of the owners and foreshadowed diverse things. On one hand, jewellery, as a decoration as well as treasure to Chinese girls and women, have different kinds of meaning to different kinds of people. In Chinese perspective, once a girl or lady wears a jewellery, the jewellery not only fits into her skin and body, but also fits into her characteristic, sometimes, it can even shape its owner’s characteristic and foreshadow their fate by affecting their characteristic. Life importance was a gift from June’s mother, Su Yuan. She used to wear the pendant everyday on her neck, until one day on a crab dinner, she suddenly gave the pendant to June. After June receive the pendant, she looked at its appearance, and found it too large and green, also too garish and unstylish, so she was unwillingly to put it up and then put it in a box. After Su Yuan’s death, however, when June recalled the memory of that dinner, she tends to see the pendant as a symbol of Su Yuan ’s love and concern. The pendant, actually has another symbol, that is a translator and memory recaller of Su Yuan and June, it translates lots of love from Su Yuan through its alternative way, which is, letting June to find the meaning of the pendant as she recall the memory by herself, and as she realised that her mother is the only person that she has asked, to tell her about life’s importance, to help her understand her grief.
