This paper will examine topics presented in Albert Nolan’s work titled “Jesus Today”. These topics will state my personal point of views regarding spirituality, the “signs of the times” and how Jesus was presented by the author. The “signs of the times” is covered in the first four chapters and it is best described as pointers towards the future or trends that are built from a reaction of where others are going. The “Signs of the times” basically signify a change into the future and the role spirituality will holds. Towards the end I will discuss my personal insights of Nolan’s work and how it has impacted me.

I acknowledge my goals as my desire and I know if I have faith in myself and God then my goals will become reality. My faith will lead me into a greater integration.
One, “Sign of the Times” presented by Nolan that I consider being personally significant to me focuses on the crisis of individualism. The beginning of this chapter defines an autonomous human being who is self-sufficient, who stands by him or herself, and is financially stable. These people are known to be autonomous beings because they are independent with flourished careers. The idea of being autonomous is a goal that many people want to reach including myself. Jesus never valued revenge instead he considered turning the other cheek. Jesus’ reputation did not mean much to him he took people’s criticism as a blessing in disguise. In the section that focused on equal dignity, Jesus was known to have turned the world upside down due to the aspect of him valuing women and children the same way he valued men. Jesus was concerned about the way prostitutes and women who were caught in adultery were being treated. In Jesus’ society the women who participated in both adultery and prostitution were condemned as sinners. Prostitution and adultery could not be performed if men were not involved as the individual who creates the demand and provides the money. Overall, I value Jesus in this sense because I do believe revenge is not always the answer in many circumstances it is always best to be the bigger person who walks away from a bad situation. During Jesus’ time and still in today’s world the person who walks away is sometimes considered weak. I also agree with Jesus valuing women, children, and men on the same level. Both men and women who take pace in adultery and prostitution should be condemned as sinners.
