More importantly, as her therapist, I will encourage her to change her pattern of her old behavior when she is confront by men. Also, make her process not every men she meets is the same as her alcoholic father. This will be a serious goal for her throughout her counseling session, this practically step will help overcome every fear she have face with it comes to encountering with men.

Fear often invokes the fight or flight syndrome in which we are compelled to either battle the fear firsthand or to run from the source of the fear despite the consequences. In the case of Cory Goodine, being witness to the unforeseen murder of Jason Boyd by none other than his own friend Todd Johnston sent a ripple of fear and shock through his body and paralyzed his mind resulting in the unfortunate events following the murder. Cory Goodine should not have been charged with accessory after the fact and/or aiding and abetting because the murder was not a conspiracy, he was in shock and terrified, and he was simply acting in self-defence. Nonetheless, some may argue that he did still aid Johnston’ although he did not have much of a choice given

...the counseling theories are very essential in dealing with Shelly’s case. It is a better option to incorporate both the theories and use them for Shelly’s treatment, instead of solely choosing one of them. As, studies have illustrated that both the theories are equally effective combing both theories might give a better treatment result. Thus, by doing so, it allows us to have a better understanding of Shelly’s case and it would also assist her in changing her present personality to a more positive one. This would not only, treat her past traumatic memories but also provide a form of guide for her future outcomes.

There are multiple structures of that can be applied to the counselling process, ranging from the basic idea of a beginning, middle and end to a more structured approach as that proposed by Egan (1994). Although his initial structure offered three main components; Stage 1, exploring the situation, stage 2, identifying a new or desired scenario to strive for and stage 3, the action stage, in which methods of coping are devised of and implemented. Egan later devised a ten stage structure that still takes into account initial stages from the speakers perspective of identifying a problem and seeking help, within this structure stage 4 is the initial meeting of the counsellor and client and can be considered the beginning stage of the helping re...
Counseling skills has provided me with a valuable insight into the helping relationship and how it is both created and maintained in order to encourage growth and development in the client. The factors involved within the helping relationship include considering Roger’s core conditions, congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathy as the three main characteristics necessary in a helping relationship. In order to fully incorporate all three of Roger’s core conditions, I as the counselor must be self-aware, as a lack of self-awareness may inhibit truly listening and understanding the client; self-awareness can be enhanced through exercises such as Johari’s window. Counseling skills such as body language and active listening also plays a role within encouraging the client to open up and can help me as the counselor convey empathy.

Jung’s analytical therapy attempts to resolve internal conflict between the unconscious and conscious within the individual by creating a balance. Davies’s use of Jungian therapy in The Manticore shows that, in contrast to Freud’s psychoanalysis, the therapist’s input is necessary to guiding the client to this balance. For clients such as Davey, the story’s main character, it can be difficult to come up with reasons for life issues, and/or how an experience or person in their pasts can cause problems within the clients’ psyche in the future. Having a knowledgeable expert who provides both guidance and advice alone can lessen clients’ anxiety over being in therapy.
