Jeremiah is Rueben, swede, and Davy religious father. He gives off an appearance of a competent adult. He is the protector of his family. Early in Jeramiah’s life, he gave up the aspiration of becoming a doctor because he felt that God called him to become a janitor. Throughout the book, anyone can see that Jeremiah had faith in God that was fervent. Because he chose to follow God’s calling, his wife left him. Regardless of his loss, he remained a great father who loved his kids and looked out for their well-being. Performing miracles was a gift God gave him, which happened throughout this book in sequence of events, supernaturally. Jeremiah religious persona prevails when he marries the maternal figure to his children, Roxanne, then becomes ill with pneumonia, to later recover from it, and die in result of his son’s cured asthma. Throughout the story, Jeremiah remains compassionate for his children and wants them to stay happy. Jeremiah refers to the time Rueben talks about the killing of Finch and Basca, which makes him feel anguish over what had happened, and feels as if it were him that murdered finch and Basca, even when it came to giving his son, Davy, up to the police, he felt that was the right thing to do. Jeremiah was always very patient, sometimes to the …show more content…
chagrin of his children. But even though Jeremiah children didn't always understand him, his children always loved him and knew that he loved them. While he was a consistent character, Jeremiah changes slightly towards the end of the book. He was the first one in the story to change his objective about Martin Andreeson. Jeremiah began to look at him as one who needed to hear the truth about Davy and the situation he was in, rather than an enemy trying to hurt Davy. Moreover, there seem to be some similarity between him and the persona of Christi.
It occurred to Jeremiah that the two-miracles he experiences, had a comparison that was almost Jesus-like. The first miracle being the fact that he “healed the face of his boss Mr. Holgren, even after he humiliated and fired him in front of half the school, just as Jesus healed many who did not deserve to be healed either”. The other comparison I see is “Jeremiah giving up his life and letting his son live a little while longer”, is an exact similarity to Jesus' sacrificing his life on earth, giving his children eternal life with him in heaven, but also sparing our life so we can stay alive on earth another
day. Later, in the story, Roxanna character is important because she is the first maternal figure to unite herself into the Land family and marries Jeremiah. At the end of the story, Jeremiah is still weak due to his pneumonia condition to help Reuben’s asthma attacks by hitting his back in hopes of unclogging whatever is in his swampy lungs and therefore the responsibility falls to Roxanna. Even though she doesn’t know the whole situation, she remains quiet and continues to help Jeremiah and his family when Andreeson checks up on them about Davy. When Jeremiah dies, she takes over as the motherly figure and take care of Rueben and swede as they continue with their life.

The character Davey is the oldest son of Jeremiah Land and the oldest of three children. Davey consistently doubts the presence of miracles or God and seems to be distracted throughout the story. He is an atheist not an agnostic, in that he doesn’t directly deny the existence of God, but rather he is skeptical or doubtful of the validity and existence of God. Reuben went so far as to say that, “Davy wanted life to be something you did on your own; the whole idea of a protective fatherly God annoyed him” (Enger, 2001, p. 56). While Davey is loyal to and fiercely protective of his family those admirable characteristics are over-shadowed by the fact that he is ...

This part of the book also ties in with the motif of miracles because this was Jeremiah’s last big miracle and he sacrificed his life for his son because he felt he has lived long enough and his son deserves to live life more even if he has bad lungs. This possibly also wasn't even Jeremiah’s choice it could've been Gods because God has been working miracles through Jeremiah so maybe God choice this as Jeremiah’s last miracle and
An important setting to the main character, Cassie is the camp Wright-Patterson. Wright-Patterson is important to Cassie because when the others took Sammy from Camp Ashpit, Wright-Patterson is where they took him. In the beginning of the novel, Cassie and her Dad have a conversation before the Others took Sammy, “ ‘They’re from Wright-Patterson,’ Dad said. He sounded out of breath. ‘And Apparently a lot more of our military has survived than we thought.’ ‘Why are they wearing gas masks?’ I asked. ‘It’s precautionary,’ he answered. ‘They’ve been on lockdown since the plague hit. We’ve all been exposed; we could be carriers.’ He looked down at Sammy, who was pressed up against me, his arm wrapped around my leg. ‘They’ve come for the children,’

When Addie Bundren finally passes on her family is left behind to carry out the burial process and take her to her desired burial ground. However, what may seem like a simple task, taking their mother to Jefferson, Alabama, turns out to be a chore as each character focuses more on their own issues than their mother’s wish. On the other hand, Cash seems to have stepped up on the family’s trip, presenting himself as the leader of the group and never loses sight of the goal of the journey: to bring Addie to Jefferson. Cash acts heroically throughout Faulkner’s novel by working tirelessly to build his mother the casket that she desires, by sacrificing his body and risking his life to then save said casket and finally, by ignoring the excruciating
Aljuriah has had a tough year and in this GAL’s opinion, this is reflective in her defiant behavior. She is a very bright and mature young lady who has specific goals and plans for her immediate future – (Emancipation, etc.) and does not understand why “we” (SW Patricia Lutman and GAL Takesha Wright) won’t help her achieve those goals. Therefore, she does not trust the “people in charge of her life”, she believes everyone is against her and no one is looking out for her best interests… Aljuriah has recently reunited with her paternal sister Ms. Ebony Greene and brother Akeem. Meyers Leonard, an NBA player for the Portland Trail Blazers, helped his team beat the Memphis Grizzlies by scoring 13 points and collecting 13 rebounds in one game, but he would have given it all back to have overcome Alzheimer’s and the effect it has had on his family. In a recent visit to watch Meyers play live, he and his grandmother Rita Douma sat down to talk with Lesley Yanak, Director of Marketing for Koelsch Senior Communities and Chrissy Hall, Executive Director of Silver Creek Inn Memory Care Community in Mesa Arizona, about the disease that took the life of his grandfather Butch in January 2016.
Moreover, the mentioning of Jeremiah, prophet and orator (English Standard Version of the Bible, Jeremiah 1.7), is extremely significant for it establishes a connection between the written and the oral dimension:
As Kevin Conroy said, “Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” This quote is a very truthful one. I have a hard journey just as everyone else does. One should not judge someone else for anything that they do. One does not know what that person is going through. Never step on a person’s toes, even if what they say is wrong. It is not wrong to correct them but it is wrong make fun of them or talk about them behind their back.
Jeremiah may be one of the most intriguing and revealing of the Old Testament prophets. With his continual return to god and the constant struggle between his heart and the voice of god. This elevates him as a human being and not just as an instrument of god (Paterson 144). He is one of the most human of prophets mentioned in the Old Testament and at the same time most Christ like in aspects of his sermons and works. His story has intrigued many for it is of human weakness and strength (Paterson 139). Let us now take a look at his life and at his works.
