People are sick, and it is because of Listeria. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is doing all they can do to help fight the Listeria outbreak before it becomes more blown up than it already is. There has been skeptulations in the media about if Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is safe to eat or if the consumer will get Listeria. Jeni’s Ice Cream is safe to eat because they have no deaths from their produce. The news and consumers have blown this outbreak up a considerable amount more than it needed to be because they didn’t realize that Jeni’s didn’t have contaminated produce that they could consume. Jeni’s Ice Cream should be doing just as well as it used to because they had a problem, they recognized the problem, then they resolved the problem but people …show more content…
Jeni and her production workers are testing every batch of product that is created. Jeni tests the batches of product every single day. In an article on Time.com, by Dan Kedmey, (2015) he talks about one of the owners of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, John Lowe, talking about testing all of the product, “Lowe wrote that the company had initiated routine testing of “every batch” since the first Listeria contamination was discovered last April. “It is with complete confidence that we can say all of the ice cream that has been served in our shops since reopening on May 22 has been safe and is 100% Listeria-free,”” Jeni’s manager John Lowe told the public about their company for an article on time.com. (time.com, para. 3) Jeni also has professional inspectors come in to check her products as well to see if they get a different result. According to JD Malone (2016) the results of the tests were clear, “After two out of 75 swabs taken in January and February came back positive, according to a letter the FDA sent to Jeni 's CEO John Lowe earlier this month.” (Columbus Dispatch, para. 7) The two swabs came from the production plants floor, which means that none of the product should have touched it. Listeria is known for growing and spreading rapidly, so Jeni is doing all she can to not let her products get contaminated with Listeria. Jeni’s Ice Cream was closed twice, the first time for two months and the second time for two weeks. One reasons why Jeni decided it was long enough to open up their business is because they have recently tested every batch of their product daily. Another reason to believe they were closed long enough is because there was no product contaminated in the production plant, only the production floor had traces of Listeria. Another reason Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream opened when they did was because nobody has died from eating their ice cream so it was not as big of a problem as people have made it out to be. Other people may question if they are doing all the testing they can do to try and combat this Listeria. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream tests every batch of product they serve daily. Daily testing means there is less of a chance to encounter increased numbers of Listeria. Out of all of the testing swabs only two out of seventy five swabs came back positive, but that was only from the production floor. None of the product testing has come back positive, which means none of the food has been contaminated with

Market research and information about the industry is very important to the organization because it will allow the organization to position itself well in terms of sourcing chocolate raw materials and in identifying the market for its products. For example, understanding that some chocolate product purchases are seasonal, e.g., at Christmas; around Mother’s Day; and, on Valentine’s Day, allows the organization to have more product on hand and to create displays, in store, that will increase purchases and attract more customers when existing customers tell their friends about the availability of high end products, at reasonable prices, in their store.

NAN, a product made by Nestle is infant food formula that was marketed in third world developing countries where it is proven the water to be unsafe. Nestle, without being affected, aggressively marketed the dry baby formula to new mothers for the sole purposes of making a profit, without any regard to humanity. Companies earn profits on high priced products or services and then sell it at a higher cost than what it took to make. In order to use the infant formula, because it is a dry based product, water must be added. Continuing issues that developing countries encounter involves contaminated and unsafe drinking water. The baby formula was given to the labor and delivery wards of the hospitals where the babies were born. The babies were fed via bottles using the product from Nestle, versus being breast fed. Naturally, the babies grew to enjoy the flavor and mother’s enjoyed the new way of feeding, providing a new found freedom. Unfortunately, upon leaving the hospital, the mothers were not able to feed their babies for much longer due to not being able to afford to purchase the product. The product was sold at nearly half the cost of what a family could actually afford. In addition, to the high cost of the product, the water being used (outside the hospital) wasn’t safe. Babies were not gaining weight; they were losing weight, and becoming extremely

Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. Food borne illnesses are diseases, usually either infectious or toxic in nature, caused by agents that enter the body through the ingestion of food. “In industrialized countries, the percentage of people suffering from food borne diseases each year has been reported to be up to 30%. In the United States of America, for example, around 76 million cases of food borne diseases, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths, are estimated to occur each year.” (Geneva 2)
