“One benefit of summer was that each day we had more light to read by” -Jeannette Walls. Jeannette Walls is a great American writer. Jeannette Walls(1960-present) is closely associated to postmodernism. Postmodernism is late 20th century movement in the arts, architecture, and criticism. Jeannette Walls grew up with her parents in southwest United States’ deserts with her nomad parents. Jeannette Walls parents, Rex and Rosemary walls, greatly influenced her life as a writer. Jeannette Walls love of reading and her love of her desert surroundings, along with the time period she grew up in is what influenced her to become such a great writer.
When Jeannette Walls was 17 when she moved to new york with her sister and went to high school where her teachers directed her towards an internship at an alternative newspaper. If Jeannette walls had not gotten tired of her parents nomad life, she may not have ever moved to New York with her sister, and would not have had teachers that directed her into a writing career. After highschool ,writing at the newspaper for several years, Jeannette Walls turned down offers from the New York Post and New York Daily News to write a daily gossip column, instead taking a job with Esquire in 1993, then moved to msnbc.com where her ¨scoop¨ ranked among the top.
